It's funny at how comments are made on train performances and how they are driven, or meant to be driven when i bet none of you have ever actually driven one...
TBH you have to take 158's away on full as they are really slow accelraters, the ones down south and haymarket based 158's take about 2 odd minutes to hit the gear change, Inverness based are rockets, as they have to be to cope with the gradients on Kyle, Wick, Aberdeen & Inverness To Perth.
158s are the best-performing 'sprinter' units BR ever built, particularly the 159/0s and highest-numbered 158s (ie. 862-onward, to 872), which have far-more power than the other 'Sprinter' units, and only a modest increase in weight!
Great vid., lots of thrash, but there's virtually no-chance he'll've got-away with Notch 7, it'd've caused far too much wheelslide or damanged the transmission - Notch 4/5 is the highest from a standing start.

Proper spelling please.
And no, I do not. It was a 158. The 2-car ones that run from Romsey to Salisbury via Chandlers Ford and Eastleigh.

Northern drivers try it all the time on the 156s but it fails
it just revs the station for 2 seconds

I wish London Midland would do this on their 150s!

Same here! I've got to go up north and search for the Ex-Wessex units Northern stole off FGW last year. They have CUMMINS engines! Much throatier!

Wow. That driver was in a hurry. Maybe he forgot his lunch and wanted an extra few minutes to buy himself some at the next station! LOL
Still, you're a member of Valeg aren't you? I think they'll be pleased with that driver. I certainly am! 5/5!

Hahaha. We got into Salisbury 4 minutes early due to thrashing it! Made my delay, cancellation, and general trouble filled day much better!
Cheers.
