I am buddhist, but i dont think statues should be all rebuilt. More excavations are very good, but not recreate statue. Why? Because an empty hole is direct reminder of war and violence result. It reminds people to keep peace forever. As buddhist we should not become too obsessed on material things. The original statues are forever gone and we must it. The money should be used for rebuilding afghanistan infrastructure, education for children, and direct financial assistance to the afghan people.

The creation of a statue is the lay persons method of showing respect to their teacher being the buddha. The buddha has never asked anyone to make a statue of himself and worship the statue.

@zanbarwakuss People who lived there and created this statue have lived and practice their way of life without causing anyone harm. What I dont understand is why destroy anything just because some said to, I honestly know that no Religious teachings will disrespect other Religion, because it causes suffering and Religion is to ease suffering. You have a bad/evil teacher and you will have bad/evil followers that is "blind faith" this is idolizing someone or something it doesnt need to be a statue

@zanbarwakuss For some reason the Taliban dont have respect for others, So what if some humans want to pray to a statue what is wrong with that? what harm does it cause to anyone. But you see I dont need to say much Karma and caught up with the Taliban. Taliban are a group of warlords who have nothing to do but cause suffering to others, until they stop the cycle they will continue to suffer themselves.

Great to see theres a movement to rebuild the statues ,I hope the rest of the country gets the same attention though.
