drum n bass and dubstep came around the same time period when most of us were still toddlers though it is true dubstep came later. Drum n bass became popular before dubstep. But also take in mind the shitstep we see flooding youtube doesnt compare to other artists (i.e. digital mystikz). both genres came out of England. Also Both genres were influenced by Hiphop .

on another note: Dubstep was also influenced mainly by jamaican dub music (i.e king tubby). Dnb=amenbreak
