I have a question for you. My dads 05 grand cherokee devoloped a misfire today. he stopped at an auto parts store and scanned it. misfire on cyl #6. we replaced all the plugs. still same problem. replaced the coil on #6 and that fixed it. how do we get the check engine light to turn off?
do you need a magnetic socket for the spark plugs or do the rubber inserted ones work just as fine for putting them in? mine fall out a lot when putting them back in. should i push them into the socket a little harder to secure them while a hand thread them in maybe?
This man took the time out of his day to make the vid and all you bitch fucks can do is bitch about the little mistakes he made? What is this world coming to?
@roadragecustoms Just replaced the plugs. Everything seems to be great. Skip and check engine light are gone. Your video helped tremendously. How(or should I) clean the fuel injectors?
next time don't slam the hood shut....i dislike mechanics that do that....close it and press gently where the latch is....this method has never failed me....other than that wonderful video...thanks
Great video...I'm currently draining my oil b/c I got water thru my intake. I'll start on the spark plugs tomorrow. Eventho this video was 8mins, how long did this actually take?
Thank you! I used this video to change the plugs in my 07 jeep. I have to admit you made it look a lot easier than the time I had. :) I used E3 plugs with Diamond Fire, hope they work well. Gotta get better gas mileage.
@forasterof2 It sounds like the throttle plate may be stuck open. Check inside the throttle body to see if something is holding the throttle open making the RPM's bounce off of rev limiter.
@agentken Are you wanting to know my opinion of Autolite plugs, or is this a math problem? Autolite plugs are OK. 7% tax on $8.34 is 58 cents. 58% tax would be $4.84. You should be paying 58 cents tax, not 58% tax. I hope I answered you question.
@saintEmory I don't have the exact torque spec in front of me right now, especially not metric. But I grabbed an Autolite spark plug box & it says this: "1/16 turn after hand tight for tapered seat spark plugs & 1/4 to 1/2 turn after hand tight for gasket seat spark plugs".
yea Bosch is junk i put some of those in a mini van one time the whole engine was shaking and misfiring,i took it back and got the rigth ones thats NGK and it worked fine after that.
Whoever at Jeep decided to use those gas cylinders for holding the hood up should be put in jail. Just think of them deciding to design something incorrectly AND make profit from it!
Great video! Everything went smooth and all codes came back good. Thanks for the enormous aid.
The two plugs closest to the windshield were a pain in the butt..and DANG! I wish I had paid closer attention & changed out the hood support shock like you did, cause it kept slooowly coming down every 10 mins lol.
@ike000000 $1.00 each & up. Don't let the parts store guy make you buy the wrong plugs. Bosch platinum is junk. Use what the manufacturer used when it was new. I'd rather buy OE parts from the dealer & pay full list, than have to do a job twice.
Great video thanks! Quick question. I am replacing the spark plugs, air filter, oil filter, oil, added fuel injector cleaner, a cabin air filter kit. I got 165,000 km on her and she seems to be running a bit sluggish at the high speeds (80kmh) and I hear a clunking sound when the gears change at low speeds and if there is a sudden change in speed. It sounds like the gears kicking in but its really loud. Other people online seem to have the same problem. Any ideas on what that could be?
@msqundhari If your battery needs to be cleaned, the terminals will be corroded & covered with a white fuzzy, powdery substance. It can be cleaned with baking soda & water with a small wire brush, or old tooth brush in a pinch. If you have to disconnect the cables to clean them, remove neg(-) first & install neg last. Remove pos(+) last & install pos first. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have the battery tested too. Be careful & good luck.
@roadragecustoms I'm sorry i have one more question, how long is a battery good for? I bought this jeep 4 years ago and never replaced the battery. Its a mopar grade 94 R battery
@msqundhari I think 4 years is about the average life of a battery. My wife's truck had one lasted about 8 years, but that is rare. Most parts stores will test a battery for free.
good video man...you obviously know what you are doing, first one of your videos ive watched, ive got a 05 grand cherokee limited with a 4.7, had to replace the o-ring gaskets on the upper plenum, and did the 60k like 5k early but oh well it needed plugs, i bought it with 40k on it from a jeep dealer was told they were done there...yea right they were the oe plugs when i took them out.
@mperu99 Thanks for watching & commenting. I don't own the Jeep in the video. I'm usually at the mercy of my customers when it comes to what kind of cars I can use to do any type of video.
@mperu99 whats up man...we dont have a scanner at work, OTC makes a dipstick for the 3.7 grand cherokees that have a tube but no stick think we paid maybe 20 or 30 dollars for it
Thank you for the video. I changed mine today for the first time @ 77k miles. The plugs were shot and the Jeep runs so much smoother. The parts guys tried to sell me Champions. I said "No, give me the NGK". lol The left rear one was a bit of a pain.
What would be the reason to get a check engine light. Not hooking up a sensor right. I heard the 3.7 are a little finicky when you change out plugs.???
Most any computer controlled input or output device can make the check engine light come on if not reconnected after service. The air intake temperature sensor on the back of the air intake could be easy to forget. Not properly seating the coil onto the plug can cause a misfire, resulting in an engine code and the light would come on. I prefer to use dealer plugs and haven't had any problems with them. STAY AWAY from Bosch unless it's European & it came with Bosch.
I just finished my plugs this evening. Everything went perfect. Boy they were way overdue the electrode was very warn . I gained huge HP and increased my mpg by 5mpg. 3.7 Jeep Commander same engiine as in your video everything was exactly the same. No Codes. I agree about the plugs the parts guy kept trying to sell me champions. I had to show him that the plug was listed right on my hood sticker. NGK came factory. Thanks for the video really saved me time.
That's awesome. Parts guys sometimes get bonuses based on how many of what brand of plug they sell. Usually it's Bosche Platinum. (JUNK!) Older Jeeps came with Champion. Good job sticking to your guns & using the right parts!

My 2005 Jeep seems to be "skipping" when I accelerate. Will replacing the spark plugs fix this?
PaidToLeave 2 months ago
@PaidToLeave Maybe. It could be anything from: plug(s), coil(s), injectors(s), wiring, internal engine issue, etc.
