Too much of a convoluted plot in this one. Too many people shot up. They should have had Brookshire walking away from the campsite at night in the rain and accidentally stumble and blow Joey's head off with the shotgun. They didn't need Moxie Mox in the story. Waste of talent.
@markmeetsworld ...in my area, if you're under 18 and middle class, you're treated as a young offender, your name can't be published and you're let off with some ridiculously light punishment and "counselling" ...i've seen $600.000 homes and $50,000 cars totally trashed, a 7-11 robbed and an actual stabbing in the local highschool, where the "young offender" was release to parental supervision and "counselling" ...joey garza would fit right in with our local teenagers
@jethro035181 No amount of 'counselling' was gonna help Joey after he escaped from the Apaches,...read the BOOK to further understand Joey's psyche.....he blamed his mother for him being sold to the Apache's because she married assholes, his mother never knew that it was Joey who actually killed one of her four husbands, the only one who showed the family kindness.
Had Joey not been sold to the Apache's he probably wouldnt have become a hate-filled killer...but it was too late after he escaped
@shyjames83 ...i was being sarcastic...there are a lot of consciousless kids like joey who are excused for major criminal offenses because they came from broken homes or a poor home environment (upper middle class) ..it more a comment on our present politically correct society ...i've read most of mcmurtry's books
If you watch closely Joey was breathing at 3 05 to 3 07 you can see his chest rise and fall. I guess playing dead is very hard when you are still alive.
What did she say at 3:26?

Joey is pure fiction out of McMurtry's mind so don't take the character seriously!

If i lived in those days I fear I would have been a little bit like joey, the majority of people then, just as now, wer either shit, or sheep......

joey was just a misunderstood youth who needed counselling and a better home environment

@jethro035181 Very true, but the "misunderstood" is an understatement!
