Kylie and Rebecca, you seem to be confused about smoking. It is absolutely an addictive thing to do but it takes many cigarettes worth of nicotine before a person develops an addiction (or dependency). So smoking every once in a while won't necessarily get you addicted, though if you enjoy it you're bound to do it more and more and that's how people get themselves hooked.

One notable exception is the film Frailty, in which Bill Paxton, a nonsmoker, became very ill smoking in scenes. In California I'm fairly certain it's illegal to smoke in any public buildings, which would include sets.

Why do people eat unhealthy foods that can clog their arteries? It's the same thing, people try/start smoking because while it might not seem like it, it can actually feel good and be enjoyable. The problem with smoking is the fact that it's addicting, and thus very dangerous and hard to only do in moderation.
