NZ desperately need batsmen in the top 3 to see the shine off the ball, and provide a platform for the middle order to launch. I think NZ have one of the best middle / lower order batsmen in world cricket, but have the worst top order batsmen.

thats exactly what I think, You have Ryder with an avrage of 50, Taylor with an avrage of 43(and going up fast), Vettori and McCullum, thats a very solid middle lower order indeed. But the top 3 need to see off 20-40 overs consistatly.

If only the Kiwis would sort out their top order. They've got one of the strongest middle orders in test match cricket, with Taylor, Ryder, Oram, McCullum and Vettori, but they lack firepower and stick-ability at the top of the innings and their bowling attack bar Vettori is average. With the ICL ban lifted will we be seeing Shane Bond back for the black caps? I think if any time is right for them to bring him back it's now, while they have momentum.

Jesse Ryder looks a cracking player for the Kiwi's, was disappointed he ended up not playing a part in either test series against England due to his off field, activities, I really would have liked to have seen this guy play first hand. But he's talented, very Trescothick-esque, minimal footwork but wonderful talent and timing. I'm going to put a tenner on this guy to get the "top sixes" award at the ICC T20 world cup. At 20-1, it's a punt worth taking.
