Hmmm I think Hampton is pretty important to our defense. Yeah he is overweight, but just like Aaron Smith, Hampton is a key part in our 3-4 defense. Especially plugging up the run. The team has a pretty good record of keeping their own players, I just think this contract ending year might be too much to handle. I didn't even mention Reed, Batch, Parker, and Spaeth.

True, I don't think he's been beat deep. But unlike Ike Taylor, they don't have Gay do much solo coverage. If his man did go deep down the field I think he would have a safety with him.

i was at the Vikings game and Favre tested Gay deep twice for sure.
he had Towensand playing in Nickle w/ him on one but the other he was on an island and did well.
last year we had the luxrury of keeping them both fresh once McFadden came back from injury.
Remember McFadden as a rookie saving the 05 Colts game after they screwed us on the overturned Troy int?
Manning went for it all just before the missed FG and McFadden made an awesome play on Wayne.

you may be right. I hope he does grow and get better. His contract ends after this season. I am not positive they will sign him when people like Hampton, Keisel, Kirschke, Carter, and Clark are all at the end of their contracts too. Since we have Burnett and Lewis and, Gay might be expendable. I hope they can all be resigned but that might not happen. I just remember a couple plays prob in the bears and bengals game where gay always made tackles after the catch. Instead of preventing the pass

They certainly need to sign Clark and Keisel.
I think they are going to gamble on Hoke to replace Hampton as he rotates with him anyways and does well.
Hampton always shows up for camp way over weight and gets alot of netural zone infractions.
Kirschke and Carter will be easy to sign but Carter may be released.
I think they'll re sign Gay becasue Corner is too risky of a gable to lose if you don't have a proven starter.

Hmmm I think Hampton is pretty important to our defense. Yeah he is overweight, but just like Aaron Smith, Hampton is a key part in our 3-4 defense. Especially plugging up the run. The team has a pretty good record of keeping their own players, I just think this contract ending year might be too much to handle. I didn't even mention Reed, Batch, Parker, and Spaeth.
I just think Hampton is too valuable to lose. Hoke is really good, but who is behind Hoke if he gets injured?? No one

They need to sign Reed, good FG kickers are hard to come by.
I love Willie, I think when he's healthy he's one of the best.
People get on his case but his body is wearng sn after those two 06 and 07 seasons when we gave him 300 + carries but he still had 781 in only 11 games in 08, 1202 in 05, 1494 in 06 and 1316 in 14 games in 07.
7-0 post season with Willie, 0-1 without him.

yes, a team wins championships, but it helps to have a very good QB like Joe Montana or Steve Young, or in our case Ben Roethlisberger. It also doesn't hurt when when you have one of the league's top defense and two Super Bowl MVP receivers (Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes). Yeah, you're right QB Shaun Hill WR Josh Morgan, and a mediocre defense?? = Multiple title for San Fran. in the near future. Watch out NFL--the 49ers are coming!!!

i am by no means a steelers fan but i really respect what mike tomlin and his coaching staff are all about. they are going to win by simply physically whipping your ass. it is 60 minutes of pure hell when you play the steelers. the steelers blitz package is the most comple i have ever seen. it is impossible to tell where the blitz is coming from so there is no way a qb back can know how to audible to change the protection. they show a blitz from the OLB but he drops back in coverage or....

Besides points per game, the '76 defense also gave up fewer yards and fewer 1st downs than the '00 Ravens. I love the way Raven fans brag about ONE good year. . They had basically the same def. personnel back in 2001, yet when they played better QBS (P. Manning and Favre, for example), their defense slipped dramatically. They were a one-year wonder. The Steelers did it for over a long period.
Using baseball players as an analogy --Ravens were Roger Maris. The Steelers Babe Ruth.

You really don't get what I mean by championships. You see until the middle of the 1960's we didn't have a superbowl. Until that crucial decade the last game of each season was the championship game, not the superbowl. Otto Graham and the Browns won 10 championships and if the merger happen earlier we would probarly had 10 superbowl wins(but the history would still remain in Cleveland so this argument is pointless.]

Best D of all time, the 2000 Ravens? If they were so good, why didn't they repeat their performance in '01, or '02, or '03? A one year wonder like the Ravens D will be forgotten in due time, meanwhile the greatest football team ever ascembled, the Steelers of the 70s (in particular the '78 Steelers) will ALWAYS be regarded as the best D to ever step on the ball field. You know what I remember about the 70's Steelers, they could'nt stop the run. What people don't remember is that teams ran all over the 70's Steelers. By the way, people never forget Superbowl teams. The 2000 Ravens allow the fewiest point in a 16 game season. Not counting the 2002 season the Ravens have rank in the top 10 in defence this whole century. Rod Woodson won a Superbowl with the Ravens, not the Steelers. I count him as a Raven more than a Steeler.

Rod Woodson played most of his career in Pittsburgh so count him as a Raven all you want hes in the Hall as a Steeler. I've got to admit the early 70's Steelers defence was great, but then the NFL establish the defensive pass interferance, and the late 70's Steelers defence was not so good. They did have a good offence in the late 70's, that's how they won 4 superbowl in the 70's decade. Steelers do have a better history than the Ravens. Once again, Our franchise was create in 1996 and we already won one superbowl. One of these days we will catch up with the Steelers.
