Zihin..Is there a way to counter the momentum shift after going up by 15 or so on the computer? I react to their defensive change and switch offensive tactics but all of the sudden my players are bricking lay in's and the CPU has tied the game within 2 minutes.
There are momentum shifts in the game (an home court is a factor) but usually a lead like that is given up due to what the gamer is doing wrong rather than the momentum magic of the cpu. When up by double digits, tighten up on defense & run quality plays to get the highest % shot attempt. Dont just run around and play at an extreme/fas pace to pump the score more because that usually equals more turnovers or bad shots for the user. The Cpu is great at coverting on bad mistakes on any difficulty.
play off ball and use the charge button. if he kicks it to the open man you have to rotate the nearest player to him. but if the player is stupid he will go right for it and either get the contested animation or a charge
great video man this will help me out ive been watching ur videos and have learned alot of fundamentals about the game and alot of lil things that help me n im glad u made this video, my friends uses the spurs n just dominates with tim in the post he just spins off n stuff now i use a zone n stuff to keep him on his toes then he attacks with parker but now i see how i can play him n make it tough for him i might now stop him but i wanna try to contain him thanks again man keep on keeping on lol
zihin man i need your help badly. Like 7 out of 10 times the computer scores on me its like that: some guy just walks in the post and the PG passes and its easy layup. i tried to play off ball defence with my PF but same thing happens, am i supposed to be denying post entry 24/7 ? i mean being shoulder to shoulder all the time ? same thing when i play deny defense the guy just gets by me and he gets the ball and layups. Thanks in advance
If you see the low post player trying to gain position and calling for the ball, it's best to play post denial at that point. Once he starts calling for the ball, the ball handler will most likely give him a post entry pass. If you deny that, then the ballhandler wont pass the post player the ball or you'll steal the post entry pass. Either is good and to your advantage. You dont have to deny post entry 100% of the time. But be able to recognize when it's coming and quickly adjust.
So how would you get a post player the ball if you're on offense and he's being fronted?
Would a lob pass work (Obviously from someone with a good passing rating like Nash or Kidd) or would you have to pass the ball around the perimeter until you can get a better angle on the pass?
Great points. Also, you have the ability to use counter moves or Off-Ball moves on the offensive end. Such as Push Off Defender, Swim Around, Spin [for a Lob], etc. You can also use the Left-Thumbstick to counter what the defender is trying to do (as he's engaging you for position). Find more about this on pages 7 & 8 of the Instruction Booklet.
Hey zihin, whats up? Im a latin antique fan of your videos, you have a good audience here, anyway, What about doing a final "test" like you did in the madden tutorials? I dont know, maybe 1 quarter to see all the tips and lessons you just put in these videos, like in madden you did. Please response, and greetings from Mexico
Well, with basketball it's much harder to do that because the Cpu is way more random. Football is basically pass or run but bball has way more options per possession. There are times where the Cpu goes an entire quarter without going to the post, going to a star player, starts forcing shots, etc. Also, you have to take into account of what I'd be doing on the offensive end. If I get one of their star players in foul trouble, then the rest of the quarter becomes predictable, easier, dull, etc.
But there should be enough examples, tips, hints in the tutorials to show the effectiveness of each subject covered. Thanks for the reply & [international] support. Appreciate it.
Does the lock on D icon show at the bottom of the player if u do off ball deny? BTW I love your video tutorials since when i found the 2k8 ones last year! :)
Great videos and info. Just whated to ask two questions. How do you stop the hook shot out of the post? and Do you know some great double team tips or strategy.
Use a Full Contest when trying to stop or contain a hook shot. And refer back to the NBA 2K9 Video Tutorials Trailer to take a quick peek at the "Rotation (Off Double)" section.
why this nigga sound like somebody stuck a finger in his booty at 6:10 of this video..smh

how do you know when to use off ball defense and on ball defense
tswag21 2 years ago
There's not a specific, guaranteed time to use on/off ball defense. It's according to the situation & defensive skillset of the player.
ZihinMaster 2 years ago
i am definitely going to try and play a lot more off-ball defense and give you a report on how i do... great videos!

zihin i have a question, once i start the deny animation or front animation, shoulld i still hold on the lock-on button or should i let go?
b2daoink 2 years ago
You can let it go. Then use the Right-Thumbstick to counter any escape attempts by the offensive player.

Wow I didn't even know you could change post fronting until watching this... your videos kick ass! Thanks!

Yes, the denial breaks if the offensive player can get away from it.
