4000 - 3000 = 1000 EXTRA calories that will go towards mainly repairing your muscles, and a little stored as fat. I'd say most of those extra calories you will piss/shit out.
Plus, it depends on your macronutrients for those 4k cals.
Gaining body fat, for the most part happens over time, 1 occasional cheat day or meal isn't going to do SHIT.
Extend the cheat day to a cheat weekend and that's when you get fat.

when cutting, your body basically thinks its dying, therefore if you follow such a strict diet for too long your body will realize something is different and slow your metabolism down and hold on to your body fat.
by having a cheat day you trick your body into thinking that everything is all good therefore your metabolism keeps going and the result = fat burning. cheat days also store energy which you will need to use for the rest of the week, and you feel happy :)

@mouthforwar93 Building muscle requires a caloric surplus, it doesn't matter where it comes from. You can't put on muscle without fat as well. If you struggle to hit a calorie surplus by eating clean then eat dirty.

Eat clean, but you gota make sure your getting your caloric intake as well. You can't constantly eat fried chicken all day, the fried chicken or hamburger every once in a while is for the finisher of you caloric intake of the day. Your number one priority is eating clean but don't be afraid to eat a bit dirty to get the calories you need.

@mouthforwar93 the best would be to eat as clean as possible, but if you don't get enough calories through the day then you can eat crap like pizza and fried chicken to get those extra calories. If you eat vegies and whole grains it's hard to eat a lot of that. So if you can't eat anything anymore, eat crap. I think that's what they mean.
@mouthforwar93 you already answered your own question. lean muscle = gaining muscle while not gaining body fat, so you get bigger and stronger and stay just as cut. bulking = putting on as much muscle mass as possible with no concern for staying cut. it's easier to gain more muscle while bulking because you'll always have enough, or more than enough proteins, carbs, and calories to rebuild muscle. when you try to stay lean, you often don't get enough to gain muscle as effectively.

the problem with this is that its very hard for some people to control. when you stay on a very strict diet you get so tired of it then if you do a cheat day and eat all kinds of shit alot of people might say fuck a diet and never go back lol... what i do is stay on a diet constantly but throw in a thing or to each day to help get rid of the cravings but not go too crazy. like a milkshake and maybe a burger. then ill feel satisfied and continue a few more days straight, all healthy with no junk.

@noblesiner Not a chance in hell as far as I know, unfortunately. You may be eating less calories and exercising but you still aren't getting the right/right amount of nutrients your body needs in order to maintain a high metabolism and stimulate muscle growth. I tried the way you suggested two years ago. It resulted in an increased waist of 3 to 4 inches and loss of muscle.

If your BMR is ~3000 calories, and you eat 4000:

the problem with this is that its very hard for some people to control. when you stay on a very strict diet you get so tired of it then if you do a cheat day and eat all kinds of shit alot of people might say fuck a diet and never go back lol... what i do is stay on a diet constantly but throw in a thing or to each day to help get rid of the cravings but not go too crazy. like a milkshake and maybe a burger. then ill feel satisfied and continue a few more days straight, all healthy with no junk.

@mouthforwar93 i think when they said that they meant it was "easier" to eat what you want. the bad thing about that is that you will gain a lot more unnecessary fat. eating clean while bulking is harder to do but it is more effective.

Hey guys, what if your eating the right amount of calories each day and not over eating and still exercising but your not eating health foods? I mean eating stuff like sugar cookies and ice cream, and beef, and white rice, and potatoes, and just all the bad shit, but not over eating it? Is it still possible to progress? Would really appreciate it if anybody could let me know.

@noblesiner Not a chance in hell as far as I know, unfortunately. You may be eating less calories and exercising but you still aren't getting the right/right amount of nutrients your body needs in order to maintain a high metabolism and stimulate muscle growth. I tried the way you suggested two years ago. It resulted in an increased waist of 3 to 4 inches and loss of muscle.
