The VERY FIRST notebook computer came two generations ahead of this one. The POWERBOOK 100, came out for a very short time, at or about at the same time as the big white LAPTOP versions of the SE and SE/30. The original notebook was smaller and more powerful than the one shown here, it was produced for Apple, by SONY.
@jojo5798 Actually Steve Job had no influence on this computer. He actually was fired after the first Machintosh. During this time I think he was working at Pixar. It wasn't until the iMac did he return to Apple.
@jojo5798 True, but it was during this time that Apple has a huge downfall. If you don't know too much about Apple you'll be surprised on how much Steve Micromanaged.
The Powerbook 100 had a 16 MHz processor, but would go down to 1MHz speed when idling to save battery life. Pretty sweet machine for its time, and that first model was actually built by Sony for Apple.
My first computer was a Powerbook 160. It weighed about 6 pounds, came with 4 MB of RAM (I upgraded it to 12 MB for about $400—the full capacity was 16MB) and an 80 MB hard drive. It cost about $3000. The screen was grey scale, not color, but not monochrome either. I thought it was swell at the time, and one thing I still like about it over newer laptops was the track ball, which I prefer to the touch pad finger thing.
If someone put their seat down while i was using my laptop on a plane i would fucking stab them and shit on their face. thumbs up if you would do the same.
My friend got it for $2.00 then gave to me for free with the power cord and the disk drive with a poetry disk with sum old school stuff on it and two games wheel of fortune and spectre challenger, can anyone tell me if it's a collectable?
So today I was at work and was cleaning up a old classroom where the teacher never does. The stuff all there was from 1980-2010.. so today was finally the day to clean it up and I found this! I couldn't find the powercord then I found it and I nearly had the changes to take it but the other people saw it grr. I'll have to wait a time to take it back.
@Wochensau Lol, relax there cowboy. Check again and you'll see that my "facts" are in fact 100% correct. I wasn't talking bullshit you dumb fuck. My first laptop was a Powerbook 145b, so I know a little something about older Macs.
Do you think the more recent PowerBook G4 ad with Ying Mao (and 'Mini-Me' Verne Troyer) was inspired by this ad? That one also takes place on an airplane.
I doubt that Kareem ever flew coach. At least I hope not....
I Steve
