bridgestone is basically the same company as firestone. firestone made tires for indycar and had information about the track surface and made a tire compound accordingly. because the track surface being diamond cut, michelin did not know that their tires would shred. michelin made new tires and had them shipped from europe but the FIA would not let michelin use them because they didn't bring them to the track when they arrived on the previous thursday, which was against regulations.
@MrBrandonRTR building on to what i wrote, FIA could have let them use the tires and prevented this but didn't. look what happened to nascar in 2008 at IndyMotorSpeedway. the same exact thing. tires where shredding due to the track surface so the entire field had to pit every 10-12 laps to prevent high speed blowouts. not entirely the tire manufacturers fault.
@indyracingnutWhat if the Michelin teams had been allowed to run on Bridgestones for the race? I doubt Michelin would be very happy about it (most probably would not allow it, although would be less embarassing than all their cars retiring), and the Mich cars would probably have big trouble with tyre temperatures if they were. It would be a bit unfair to Ferrari, but they would still have a major advantage. There must be a rule against it though which sucks cause it would have been entertaining
@afa1515 So the two most prolific record setters in formula one history are just 'good' are they? Michael Schumacher dominated Barrichello and Vettel has done the same with Webber (albeit only during 2011). They were both exceptional in mid-field cars as well. retard
@Wibbahh I think they are good, but not good enough to get the WC with their skills alone. Vettel is only the youngest whatever; what when you put a 19-22 year driver with talent in a dominant car like a Red Bull, he will also break the record.
@afa1515 Would you consider Lewis Hamilton to be a great driver? I certainly would, but he managed nothing more impressive than Vettel during McLaren's strong years of 2007 and 2008. I suppose that Ferrari & McLaren were a lot closer in terms of performance in 07/8 than McLaren and RBR were last year, but then again Ham only managed 9 wins in 07/08, and Vettel managed 11 wins in just 2011. Vettel got the maximum out of the car is what I am saying. And no one wins a WC with a shit car anyway.
I love this crap. Nobody wants a race in the US because they think the fans are uninterested. They're not. They're just uninterested in a race that has 6 cars.
I dont see it as anything other than a mechanical retirement. Michelin's fault, its not Ferrari's job to help them. The stinking fans can quit whining, this is a sport, and they got a race.
@MRNU979 the track was too fast for the michelin tyres, they had a bunch of blowouts during practice and qualifying if i remember rightly, michelin requested a make shift chicane be put in place to slow em down near the last corner i think, but FIA said no, so michelin refused to let the teams who used their tyres race under safety concerns
this right here set the bar for F1 not being about the fans at all. if they strongly believed that, they would of put the things in place so all cars would of ran
@Sammyy46 No, basically Michelin came with a tire that wasn't designed right to handle the final turn of this particular track. Because of safety issues Michelin let their teams know that their tire wasn't safe to use for this grand prix. Michelin did try and make amends by offering refunds for the tickets that the people paid to see this race. After I saw this I told myself I will never buy Michelin tires ever again, sad really because they do make good tires
@LuQyman94 the last corner, the longcorner which is from the old track got kind of riffles on the track. some of the slicks of the cars "exploded" and the cars crashed. Beside this 3 teams they said we dont take the risk.
100% michelins fault. they have to bring tires safe to race, if they built a chicane, the bridgestone-teams would have had a disadventage for having too hard tires.
@andrewlawrence2209 1. not enough tyres. that year there was no tyre change.
2. it would be too dangerous. nobody could say how long a tyre lasts. and the problem was the oval part, the surface cut the tyres there, which is the fastest part of the circuit.
Since the 2004 US GP the tarmac had been changed. Michelin didnt know this or neglected to change thier tyres to suit. As a result there was an issue and it made the tyres sidewall fail. Causing 2 accidents in free practice. Bridgestone tyres (the six vcars that started) didnt have a issue as bridgestone were the tyre supplier for the Indy 500 race that year, so they had valuable data on the new surface and how to build the tyres to suit.
@mike1761999 Michelin tyres didn't work properly @ Indianapolis. If you saw the crashes at US GP 2004 you can see the problem with crashes of Alonso and Schumacher (Ralf), both with Michelin tyres. Michelin told teams that it wasn't safe start the race with that tyres, and 2005 rules banned tyres change, so Michelin tried to dialogue with FIA to put a chicane, but FIA complains for the teams with Bridgestone. So, Michelin told teams don't start the race, and they did. That happened.
@az091632 The cars retired because ones who used michelin tyres were of safety concern. the batch of tyres were faulty so only ones using bridgestone could start
I don't normally post comments on videos but I have to say, with all the messing around that going on with F1 coverage as we go into next year, I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually see that number of cars on the grid for every race. it could have been fixed with a chicane but drivers might have forgotten about it in concentration so big accident and shit. i think some drivers should have done one lap and came into the pits so they would have stole 7nt to get some points or were the points different back then?
@deanbrickland I donno, I didn't watch that weekend, becaus esomething came up.
And since I was a Minadi Fan, I was kind of happy at the same time because they got to score big points, it would have been even better if the other four retirec and Manadi won 1 and 2, fluke win but ehh
@hypersaiyangoku i liked minardi to. i was sad wen they pulled out. everyone loves the underdog. i remember in i think it was 2001 minardi finished in the points. i think they got one point and the cheering was like they won the championship. fun to watch
@deanbrickland Well yeah, I done a bit of Homework on F1 history and I know Minadi enter first in 1985, and trhey never really left the back of the field, what I liked most is that the team never gave up through a season or any season
@hypersaiyangoku yeah. they were the team that gave new drivers their big breaks into f1. like alonso in 2001 and he got rookie of the year. they found all the best f1 drivers they could. i think they also had webber in that same year
@deanbrickland That's for Damn sure. Not all the drivers bexame great but became known because of Minadi, Trulli, Alonso, Webber. Even Vattel. Even though the team became torro Rosso, they're still got Minadi DNA.
Lucky for me i got the 2003 game and 2005 game with the Great Team still in lol
@hypersaiyangoku yeah. i have the 2002 game. the only thing you can do is championship. you know wat im talking about. its kinda boring using ferrari and winning every race so easy so i like to pick the slower cars to make it a challeng. i love the engine failures. so much fun. cant wait for the new game. hopefully in one of the future games you can make your own team. i will definitely make minardi. sounds so exciting
@deanbrickland Same here, Yesterday on F1 2005, in career mode I did Spa 44 Laps on hard difficulty. I've perfected the starts and got myself to 5-6, after that could I pull away. not at all.but it was fun.
When a game as a big difference in car speed, between the fastest and slowest it more fun. but they all have their downsides, the slower teams, lack down force. many time I tried to take a flat out corner well flat out, and just spun off the track due to the lack of down force
@hypersaiyangoku yeah but everyone else just says f1 's shit you ask them why they say ''oh look you cant spell'' changing the topic. im 16 i used to watch f1 when i was 4-5 cause i like the crashes. now wen i see the crashes you think differently. are they ok why did it happen. you realise its all different now. wen did you start watchin f1
@deanbrickland Trust me, I used to like crashes, and used to look forward to them. Like you that change not completely, I still like to see some bumps and scraps.
But remember this, Racing Cars crashing is important, When a Race Car crashes, it's a chance for enginers, and such to use the data from the crashes to improve the safety of not just racing cars, but road cars to.
The Road Cars are safe because the dtata from crashing racing cars is what as help make them safe in the first place
@deanbrickland Depends on how they hit each other. don't forget F1 Cars are open, no roofs, meaning objects of other cars can hit them. example, Massa's accident 2009.
And against it depends on how the cars hit each other in F1, I've seen plenty F1 Cars crashing into the back of each other and being lurched into the air,
Still, when you think about it, it was special. Ridiculous, stupid, shockingm, certainly hurting F1, not just in the US. But special... :-)))) I liked Coulthard's words and intentions. A proper racer...
I've never seen the start to this race. A sad day in F1 history.. Sadder for all the fans. You can almost feel the wind being pulled from all of the fans lungs.
@borussenchristian because michelin and the teams offered a lot of alternatives to make the race safe for the teams with michelin. Max mosley was just an ass and he didn't do the right thing.
@NOXXism yes with a lot of alternatives is right....but imagine YOU are bridgestone or ferrari...your tire's are good and it's all within the rules....bridgestone(you) and michelin had the same chance to bring perferct tires to indy....and than you know...michelin have problems but why accept alternatives, why accept a track-mod. ... it's a problem of michelin so bridgestone, ferrari and otherd don't have to help their oppenets to maybe take them points away (sry for my englisch, im german)
@borussenchristian they offered the option to use a chicane for michelin users only so bridgestone users used the normal circuit and michelin have to go through the chicane
@NOXXism he done the right thing... michelin couldn't handle the track, bridgstone guys could so there was NO reason nor would it be fair to punish them.
@NOXXism But why should they have put a chicane in? It was Michelin's fault for not making their tyres to the required needs where as Bridgestone did, if one team comes with no engine should they all take them out and be forced not to use them? No. The teams that could adhere to the regulations were rightly given the advantage.
@NOXXism It wasnt Max Mosleys fault. Michelin had a solution, which was to build a chicane to slow the cars down. And all the Bridgestone teams have to say okay to this and all of them did except Jean Todt in Ferrari.
why the racing in the us is always boring ??

Even though the EA Formula 1 games were better

Still, when you think about it, it was special. Ridiculous, stupid, shockingm, certainly hurting F1, not just in the US. But special... :-)))) I liked Coulthard's words and intentions. A proper racer...

I've never seen the start to this race. A sad day in F1 history.. Sadder for all the fans. You can almost feel the wind being pulled from all of the fans lungs.

why the FIA? it was a Michelin problem not a FIA problem, not a Ferrari problem, not a Bridgestone problem.....
borussenchristian 7 months ago 53
@borussenchristian because michelin and the teams offered a lot of alternatives to make the race safe for the teams with michelin. Max mosley was just an ass and he didn't do the right thing.
NOXXism 6 months ago 36
@NOXXism yes with a lot of alternatives is right....but imagine YOU are bridgestone or ferrari...your tire's are good and it's all within the rules....bridgestone(you) and michelin had the same chance to bring perferct tires to indy....and than you know...michelin have problems but why accept alternatives, why accept a track-mod. ... it's a problem of michelin so bridgestone, ferrari and otherd don't have to help their oppenets to maybe take them points away (sry for my englisch, im german)
borussenchristian 6 months ago
@borussenchristian they offered the option to use a chicane for michelin users only so bridgestone users used the normal circuit and michelin have to go through the chicane
NOXXism 6 months ago
@NOXXism he done the right thing... michelin couldn't handle the track, bridgstone guys could so there was NO reason nor would it be fair to punish them.
SuperHardTrance 5 months ago
@SuperHardTrance Michelin couldn't handle the high speed corner. The rest it handled fine
NOXXism 5 months ago
@NOXXism exactly... Bridgestone could handle it all
SuperHardTrance 5 months ago
@NOXXism But why should they have put a chicane in? It was Michelin's fault for not making their tyres to the required needs where as Bridgestone did, if one team comes with no engine should they all take them out and be forced not to use them? No. The teams that could adhere to the regulations were rightly given the advantage.

@LeKtiCJ I was planning to write almost the same idea. but your explanation and example are perfectly chosen. not a word to add. thx.
amokachi31 4 months ago
@NOXXism It wasnt Max Mosleys fault. Michelin had a solution, which was to build a chicane to slow the cars down. And all the Bridgestone teams have to say okay to this and all of them did except Jean Todt in Ferrari.
