I went on the Sex and the City Tour in NYC a few years back...one of the perks was we got to see this bakery and then when we got back on the bus we got a cupcake...they were so freaking good I asked ~ and got ~ a second.....utter heaven these cupcakes!!

Those cupcakes are way too sweet. You can barely eat one without going into coma due to an insulin shock. The icing ruins the cupcakes, because the cupcakes themselves aren't that bad, albeit they're a little bit too sweet too. It might be the fact that I'm not American, but it seems like the American way is to make everything sweeter, and a lot of the times bigger as well. It's just not for me. I like the regular muffins we make in Scandinavia, even though the American cupcakes looks adorable.

i'm not a huge fan of magnolia. been there twice .. i guess it depends on your taste. the icing is veryyyyyy sweet. the cake is really good though.

You guys have much to learn about New York cupcakes. Magnolia's fell off when the original owner split and created her own store called buttercup on 52nd and 2nd. These are the cupcakes they ate on Sex and the City, not the dry, overly sweet, overrated crap you buy in the village! Tourists never go out to the east side on 52nd street because it's out of the way, but that's where the real New Yorkers go.

That's not true, Buttercup is always empty, while Magnolias (in the village and on 6th ave) always have lines out the door and around the corner. There's no comparison between the two as far as popularity, far less people go to Buttercup. People just assume Magnolias is better because that's what they saw on SATC.

I was in nyc last week and did the s.a.t.c tour :) We went there and got cupcakes omg they're soooo sweet lol. I bet there's like 800 cals in one. I have a sweet tooth but I could barely finish one of the cupcakes, the icing is pure sugar haha. So kewl tho :)

I think exactly the same. Took a SATC tour, tried one pink cupcake...I had enogh after 1 bite. Too much icing for my taste...but maybe for Americans it tastes good...Sicky sweet for my taste...:(

My mom came to visit me from Texas and we went together for the first time to the magnolia for cupcakes! We got 4 cupcakes & 1 brownie! After tasting all of them My mom said they were gross including the brownie! DRY DRY DRY and the brownie was hard as a rock! I said they tasted like cornbread and she said NO because corn bread taste GOOD! The icing was way to sweet! it was NOT worth standing in line! In a nut shell there to DRY SWEET DRY NO-TASTE NO-FLAVOR DRY DRY GROSS!
