This song is amazing, that melody at the start is superb!! When I was 15 my friends and I had a band and we used to jam the fuck outta this song, 20 now and still loving it!! :-D
I have a suspicion this isn't JUST about a struggle, way back in the mists of past millenia, for who owned the soul and spirit of Ireland, right? We're seeing a metaphor for Norrthern Ireland here, perchance, non-surrendering Orange Ulster v. the 32-county republic?
Just picked up on the lines "The day will come and the dawn will break - the daybreak's here". And my suspicious Welsh soul knows enough Irish to know "tiochfaid a'r la" when it's put into English right under my nose like that!

Real cool. Part at 0:33 sounds a lot like Jethro Tull's song Locomotive Breath.
