An "emo" person who doesn't make their wrists look like a frickin blood fountain is scene. Scene is classified as dressing emo, but besides that is a normal functioning member of society. Nah it was a style of music loosely associated with punk, it got a good start from Minor Threat's Ian Mackaye who started Dischord records and signed alot of the bands. The music is hard to put into words what it orignally sounded like but lyrically it was basically alot like punk but dealt with more personal issues. Trying looking up bands like Dag Nasty or Rites of Springs or Embrace.

MTV basically took it and changed what it actually meant much like they tried to with punk
