  • FANTASTIC!

  • What an AMAZING performance and arrangement of this very moving hymn.

  • If, God forbid, I die soon I want him to sing this at my funeral

  • You can tell that Mrs. Obama doesn't care for the song by the way her actions (body movements) show... Crossed arms is a sign of stand offish or on the defensive. Oh well the singer was awsome..

  • You can tell no such thing. You can assume that from his posture many things, that doesn’t make it true. In running the country there has to be much to deliberate. He is composed for whatever reason, we don’t know what he woke up to and what he knows he has to face when leaving, but one can only speculate. His demeanor is one that is scrutinized from more aspects than any other President.

  • @annajanuary you misunderstood.. I didn't refer to the president.. I sad Mrs. Obama.. Sorry if you got that part confused.

  • AMEN...He sung that song...I really felt that !!!

  • Seekers:** And it Shall Come to Pass, that Whosoever Shall Call on the Name of the Lord Shall be Saved! (Sozo Also Means to be Rescued, Delivered, Forgiven, Cured, Healed, Made Whole!) *Acts 2:21

Seekers Prayer:** Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God; and Renew a Right spirit within Me?

Wash me Thoroughly from my Iniquity, and Cleanse Me from My sin? Psalm 51

  • whats with the alert graphic

  • pray that obama gets saved!!!

  • Amen!

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Look at Clinton's expression! LOL

Just in awe of the voice of Wintley Phipps!

  • Truly the Voice of God!

  • Wintley Phipps it's a great voice!

  • Questo canto ha molti significati, ma in questa occasione e piana di fiducia, Amen Egli viene.

  • Google translate English from Italian:

This song has many meanings, but on this occasion and the plain of trust, Amen He is

  • As amazing grace was sung, and the word was read from, and the new president was praised, the rules on abortion were quietly rolled back 30 min after taking his oath . No justice for the silent cries of the unbourn.

  • Let me preface my comment with the fact that this was an AMAZING performance ... great arrangement and awe-inspiring vocals. I got chills listening to it and thank you to the OP for posting it.

But I have to ask a question ... is this a prayer service or the finale to a Broadway musical?

Did I see Jean Val Jean in the background?

    Anyway ... beautiful music.

  • i went to school with this brova's son

  • Whomever posted this: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • you are quite welcome. I loved this rendition.

  • Incredibly wonderful presentation of Amazing

Grace. No wonder he received a standing ovation.

  • Most inspiring version of Amazing Grace ever rendered throgh a human voice to the most inspiring president ever elected.

  • amen

  • amazing song amazing singer amazing president may god have mercy on us all.

  • How nice of Obama to stand last...

Anyway, Wintley Phipps is his name. He's incredible. Phipps hums the beginning as a tribute to what he believes inspired John Newton to write the song. Newton was the captain of a slave ship back in 18th century, and Phipps' humming is reflective of the melodic moans Newton would have heard coming from the slaves beneath the ship deck. As such, Amazing Grace is the most popular white spiritual, written in the "slave scale" - the Pentatonic Scale. Truly Amazing

  • thanks for posting this! my wife compared the singer to Robeson--not quite, but he's good. one verse I'd never heard before. it sounded like

when weve been dead ten thousand years

    bright shining as the sun

    we even know the space

    to stay in Gods grace

    as when we first begun

    (?)

  • He sings this as the last verse:

When we've been here ten thousand years...

    bright shining as the sun.

We've no less days to sing God's praise...

    then when we've first begun.

    Then Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Amen.

  • @bbbartolo Do you know the entire version that is in the library of congress?
