Well, it's "history, heritag, pedigree etc etc" is fairly short. It has only been around since the 80's and believe it or not, they made cars long before that. In fact several compaies had been building variations of high performance sedans for a while. Oh, and since you seem to have forgotten (or never known) the Vette was around along time before the M division even existed and there was a line of performance Jags before BMW even made cars.

It is still a mystery why the Chevy folks would say such a thing when the LS engine in the Z06 was already more powerful than the M5's V10. It is of course personal opinion, but the BMW has absolutely nothing that justifies its price. Its fast but speed can be had at half the price. It isn't comfortable thanks to its "sport" suspension set up. It's really just an over blown car fit more for pompous fools who don't know anything about cars.

Oh and considering that all of the cars we are talking about are just for ECO freaks, and seeing as that anybody who drives one is most likely very concerned about the enivronment etc etc. The Jag engine is the cleanest and gets the best fuel economy. And yes I would choose the AJ V8 over the BMW, in fact I already did. The car that goes with the engine is important too and in that department, to me, nothing about a BMW justifies its price.

The reps confirmed that the horspower rating was something that they benchmarked but nothing mechanical on the BMW is an inspiration to the LS9. You should really research what you are saying, the AJ V8 Gen 3 is lighter than the new BMW 4.4L. More powerful, maybe but Jaguar engineers have confirmed that the Gen 3 is easily capable of an additional 75-100hp.

In fairness, the LS series of engines predate the BMW V10 engine and it also didn't inspire anybody, not even BMW who are dropping it in favor of a V8. It's a fantastic engine no doubt but anybody who knows cars respects the simplicity of the ZR1's LS motor. It's simple design means its compact and light weight. Really, comparing the ZR1 and M5 is apples to oranges, one a purpose built bullet the other a family sedan on steroids. Personally, I'll take an AJ V8 over any BMW engine anyday.

The GT500 driver didn't drive the car. You can tell by the engine sound that he didn't push the car at all. The car doesn't reach it's capability until 5000 RPM. He was shifting at about 2000. I have a GT500 and have raced M5's. They are no match for it.
