Does anyone know why they never perform this song live? I can't find any evidence of any kind of them ever playing this, and their site used to have a list of all their songs and a number of times performed live on each song, and this one never went above 0 that I saw.
@Carlosonebillion I'd say it's either because the band doesn't like it, or the song is so difficult to play that the band keeps messing up so they don't bother.
The story behind this entire album is scary in itself. These are the lyrics of spirits, be they god or evil, they took the story they received from another dimension and carved them into this world forever. These are the words we are not supposed to hear, and I love every second I get to appreciate the unsettling feeling I get from the other side. And for any one to be chosen to decipher and share these stories is amazing.
my brother's been going thru a lotta weird musical phases and isn't as much into this band as he used to be, he's a huge ryan adams fan now. he was talking abt drummers he loves and i said "well i know ur disapointed, but im still throwin my panties up on that stage for thomas pridgen." he assumed i meant cuz he can drum fast and crazy like wax simulacra, i was refering to great dynamics and a good taste/choice in soft vs. loud, easily seen in octahedron :) i want him back... :(
The Mars Volta is aeons ahead of all of us. We will be withered and gone when the public truly appreciates what's going on in these songs. I say this because they set a bench mark in musical complexity that is unrivaled, unbeatable in their own game. Viva la volta!
oh god, I lost this song somewhere between computers, I'm still missing half of this album and it's pretty much my favorite (if I HAD to choose I mean... ah shit nevermind, I can't commit to that) and I was srs experiencing withdrawals. thank god for youtube and thanks for posting this. cheers.
WHAT? You know that Thomas Pridgeon is insanely respected in the drumming world right? He's one of the best "church drummers" around. he's got some damn chops.
thomas was a very wise choice as a drummer he tends to play alot of notes and it fits very well with the mars volta not to mention he can show a quirky style . very wise choice
the clear set thomas has is an rci with dw hardware mounted on it. tommy lee has also such a kit done by rci with dw hardware. the shells on these kits are made by rci in the usa and kick serious asses. they are also known as aquabomb acrylic shells.
When Jon quit drumming, I was the first to say the Volta was done.... Insert foot in mouth...... Thomas is dare I say, beter?? Shit, when Ringo quit the Beatles, Paul played better drums than he did. (See drumming on Back in the USSR and Dear Prudence for proof)
I saw some interview with Omar where the guy asked him if they were going to play Cavalettas in concert and he said that the band is holding some of the Bedlam tracks back (Cavalettas, Tourniquet Man, Askepios, etc) so they can play them on the later half of the tour this year so they wont get bored with all of them right away.
I had a live version of this song , but Thomas was drumming so quickly in the intro that he created an electro-magnetic pulse strong enough to short out my computer even though it was just a recording. Now I have to use the computers at Future Shop.
this song is awesome but i think it would sound a lot better with some lower vocals. Thomas pridgen is soooooooo nasty at drums..... I'll get high and listen to him play anyday
oh my god. their coming to chicago on april 20th. 4 20. FOUR TWENTY. and i'm on a school contract. i want to cry. but either way the music sounds good. and i don't need drugs to enjoy it. and its definitely the concept of their music, since omar nearly never does drugs and he composes their music.
They do drugs. They only quit opiates after Jeremy died, but as far as I know, they still smoke weed from time to time, and on the Two Girls One Cup Reaction video of them, it looks like half the band is drinking, including Omar.
yeah some guy i met smoked a blunt with thomas...he smokes hella weed...they all do pretty much not as much as thomas smokes but thats all he does is smoke weed...not like opiates or all that stuff...cedric even requested a blunt from the crowd for thomas

nothing compares to a blunt (in the weed realm, obviously there are better drugs to trip out to) and listening to a Mars Volta album. I yelled at a kid in my school because he got tix to a Mars Volta show because he's straight-edge. I was like "YOU DON"T EVEN UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF WHAT THEIR DOING!!!"
this seems to be there least best album in my opinion, from the tracks i heard so far.I have skipped a couple of songs so far,and i felt i never had to do that with any other of their albims.3/5 maybe after a few listens and a couple of blunts i'll change my mind.
its impossable to say which is better. they all are diffrent with diffrent players this ablum would be completly diffrent if they had theador drumming and you opinion would change on TBiG. likewise its impossable they are all amazing
compairing mars volta albums is impossible because they each have a different sound... everytime you listen to one of their albums you find a new favorite song or breakdown or solo... and yeah to say ones better then another is kind of impossible if you really really really love the volta
I'd say they're taking the same sort of sound they had in Amputechture and perfecting it. Amputechture was a dissapointment, admittedly this is not as different from Amputechture as all the previous albums have been from each other, but it is certainly a big step up from Amputechture and not a disapointment.
ey frances the mute was amazing but not a era o a old mars volta ...only was diferent and this album is going to be diferent if you say things lke"this is no mars volta sound" you are a fucking pussy cuz mars volta change thats whats make diferent to others bands
i dont want to heard more song of the album come on guys lets wait 8 more days i know its hard but heard the song its like take off the "Bedlam" of "The Bedlam In Goliath" come on dont risk the surprise of the album
