  • He missed the shot and they didn't have enough money to re-shoot it. classic hahaha

  • Some beefcake walks around a feather duster, yet gramps is focused on Pong. That must be one helluva video game.

  • barhbarhbarhbarh, barhbarhbabarh...baaarhbaaaarh. barhbarh barh barbabarh.

  • @paralixis4500

yeah, and Kolumbus wasn`t america`s discoverer, that were the vikings

  • @finmarc oh RLY XD

  • Come on back home this man makes me feel kinda funny like when we used climb the ropes in gym class!

  • the illuminati likes playing shitty old games.

  • @InfidelAntichristian Well that's pretty ignorant. If they never made games like this, you wouldn't be able to play your Final Fantasy X.

  • I've got an old ass pong system called Paddle IV. The thing is over 34 years old, and it work better than my friend's 6 year old Xbox

  • gay housecleaner in background

  • think about this as you play your 360s PS3s and your black ops. You spoiled ass brats

  • its crazy atari still makes games............

  • @Apsu72

    Apsu72: 1

    Troll: -5

  • @exposed97 Yo Messiah!

  • @exposed97 Eat a dick

  • I'm pretty sure "Darlene" (the name of the woman the man is speaking to) was the codename for the Atari Pong home system before it was released...

  • i'd be bored as hell if everything was in black and white too!

  • Jesus Crist!

  • Poor sap, doesn't know the wife ran off with the other pool boy....blames it on Pong, poor guy....

  • i cant understand shit

  • THATS OLD AS FUCK!!!!!!!!

  • i can imagine people NOT playing pong because they could even understand what he's saying xD poorest sound quality ever, but still awesome!

  • this commercial is probably than most modern commercials today. Makes the game even more damn entertaining!

  • wow OLD!

  • This video is old as shit!

  • this is as old as crap!

  • no offense, but Pointless TV ad

  • super old!

  • This looks old as shit!

  • @Rachman1337 1975/1976

  • @whattheheck1000

Seems more like 40's/50's. What the hell?

  • @Rachman1337 black and white and poor recording quality i think

  • @Rachman1337 isnt that how you look

  • @Rachman1337 In 2040 they will be saying the same thing regarding the XBOX 360 and PS3, that's if the New World Order desides to let us live or not. LMAO

  • @TheLizardKing1967

Yes, but thanks to digital media our commercials won't deteriorate to this extent.

  • @Rachman1337 you will too someday

  • @Mortskcab

I'm just surprised that something from the late 70s looks like it was made in 1942.

  • @Rachman1337

    ikr, seriously

  • @Rachman1337 This is from the early-mid 70's

  • Just in case anyone didn't know: Darlene was it's code name. Amazing Commercial.

  • I remember very well how amazed people were by Pong. In fact, I remember that my friend and I enjoyed looking at the screen in this hotel lobby without even playing the game -- we were amazed. You have to remember, this was before the Internet, before banking machines, before PCs, before VCRs, etc.... To actually have control over something on a television screen was very radical and rather empowering, too.

  • @chrisman737

I couldn't have said it better myself. When these first game systems hit in the early 70s, it sent out a shockwave that hasn't stopped yet.

  • wow i am even to young for that... born 1974

  • how much did it sell for when it first came out?

  • because it's the best video games could do in the 70s. Trust me, if you were around back then, you will know why so many people think this game was/still is amazing.

  • HA - had that in 1975 and we all thought it was the shit!!

Saw the new retro version in a store a couple years back. Showed it to my 8-year-old; he watched the demo for all of 2 seconds before he went back to playing "Super Extreme Death Match 2237" or whatever the hell it was...

  • I can't believe I'm old enough to have played Atari

  • uh...that...was...scary

  • PONG, Atari was the grandfather of gaming. This brings back good memories..

  • >This brings back good memories..

I built this game from scratch last month. Maybe I post video about it somewhere...

  • your'e a liar

  • No, I'm not. There was a Russian clone of Atari Pong game, and there was Russian clone of Atari Pong IC AY-3-8500, it's called K145IK17 (ИК17), and there was some schematics in old hobby magazines...

It's not so hard as you may guess... All you need is this chip + bunch of resistors and buttons...

You can also download my project of PONG here:

    z x . p k . r u /showthread.php?t=10363&highlight=%EA145%E8%EA17

    It's in Proteus 7 format...

  • Pong, invented by Atari.

  • oh wow, I remember that commercial

    LOL

I forgot all about it until now

  • Back in the day for sure. Don't see too many commercials these days shot on black and white film! I used to have a Pong Sports IV console (Had the Sears name on it but was made by Atari), don't know what happened to it though.

  • That guy gets owned in the very first second after the start. xD

  • About 5 years ago at a flea market near my house a guy had a Pong home video game system still in it's original box for sale. The box was NEVER OPENED!! I picked it up, looked at it and just shook my head in amazement that it was new and never played. I asked how much, he said $20. Dumbass me put it back down on the table and walked away... I went back a few hours later and it was gone. Probably the biggest mistake I made when it comes to a collector of vintage video games. UGH! :-(

  • I dont know i passed up a working vectrex system with 5 games all complete for 60 dollars because i though that was too much :D

  • Oh man that sucks for you, I would've just whoop it away before it disappears.

  • i came across one when i was like 8 years old played the shit out of it isnt that the first console?

  • No, Magnavox oddysey was first, and this isnt like some console 8dont uses cartridges

  • The 70's. The only time where Men could be maids. (Look behind the old man. There is a maid who is a guy)

  • Exactly which year is this from?

  • 1976-1977, probably 1976

  • Super Rare!!!!

  • EPIC!

  • scareh :o

  • aaaaaaaah dead people!!!!1

  • I like how they put "Invented by Atari" which in reality Nolen Bushnell (Ataris Founder) Saw a pong type game showcased at some trade show by Magnavox, he just happen to introduce the product to the market before they did.

  • the original pong was in color believe it or not

it was really advanced at the time

  • HAHAHA the crossdresser behind him, subliminal much?

  • I have a original pong system.

  • Dude, cool!

  • how old r u like 63? lol

  • no im really only 13. lol

    i got it off ebay

  • lol i got a 2600

  • lololol I have 3

  • I started collecting video games at the age of 13, and 3 years later, I still don't have Pong :(.

  • GOOGLE!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I can't understand him. What is he saying?

  • I was thinking the same thing

  • ...The very first video game commercial...

  • Who was the man whore behind him?

  • im scared

  • My perents played this game a long time ago classics

  • o_O...

  • I own an original Atari Pong system in the box!

  • @hondolespaul that's freakin awesome! Wonder what it's worth

  • @nighthawk5556 Thanks!

  • @hondolespaul me too. Does it work on colored Tvs

  • @Chey299 The last time I used it, it worked on a color TV.

  • wow...

  • How can a damn cowboy know anything about video games? XD

  • It was the 70s, arsetard. This game ruled in the 70s.

  • Classic Gaming System. I Still Own A Working Pong.

  • JESUS CHRIST

  • lol how did u get this???

  • OLD

  • No shit sherlock..

  • they did but it was expensive back then

  • I thought there was color tv in the 70s

  • sweet

  • Summary of commercial for those who don't understand what the guy says:

Doreen spends too much time at the arcade so the dad trys to get him to come back by telling him that he can play at home

  • What a good way to fix the gaming addiction <3

  • Wow, this ad was recorded on tape? VCRs were very expensive in the 70s!

  • KING PONG

  • I couldnt understand a word except for pong and atari.

  • yeah , lol!!!!!

  • Here's the words in the commercial. I can't understand it 100%, but here goes

    Old Man:

Doreen, I'm sure when you went out last week to play PONG

You had so much fun you just plain forgot to come home

    Well I'll miss you Doreen

But guess what? ATARI, inventors of the electronic games you put the quarters in just made PONG for home TVs - scorekeeper and all.

  • Part 2:

    Announcer:

    PONG, invented by ATARI

Now at last you can play at home

  • wow cool

  • the microphone is a little close buddy...

  • It was probably those bad VCR's of that time that had the PreAmp setting set way too high, or it was user adjustable and the user always set it at the highest setting.

  • This was a great game!

  • I'm gonna sell my PS2 and buy one of these...

  • Right on!!!

  • Pong is free... now.

  • I have an old pong game and it still works!

  • Wow. I am shocked someone would have a video recording of a commercial from 1976. Both videogames and VCR's (in their form, then) were rare and up and coming.

  • I've always wondered how they get pre-VCR recordings on Youtube.

  • By using a PCI or USB (external) Video Capture Card, you can connect any AV based device and capture it into an AVI/MPEG compressed video file on your computer, then upload it on youtube, a pretty simple task.

  • taken in 1972

  • Screw Atari! They ripped off PONG from Ralph Baer, and made millions off the idea he deserved credit for! Sure the Oddessy wasn't the greatest video game system around, but the 2600 was HUGELEY overated, almost as much as the Xbox 360.

  • That's ture Atari did rip-off Pong from Raplph Baer, it was a simple "Tennis" game that appeared on the Brown Box and avertually the Magnavox Odyssey in 1972. And yes the Atari 2600 was a bit overrated, mainly becouse Atari kept pushing the same gaming technology from 1977 to 1991.

  • This commercial is probably mid 1970's. That is just before the General Insterments AY-3-8500 or also kown as a "Pong on a chip" device, had gotten so easy and cheap to make that any company could have there own version of "Pong".

  • I agree. The 7800 was a leap forward, but that's the system they should have released after the 2600. The 5200 was a joke, except for the trackball. I understand that is an excellent peripheral for games like Centipede on that system.

  • The biggest problem with the Atari 5200 was its lack of backwards compatability with the Atari 2600, the eventual market crash and most people could not understand the idea of upgrading to a new system. The Atari 5200 controllers were pretty bad, the main reason was that Atari was so focased in making a video game system that would replace the Atari 2600 that all of the funding when towards hardware, and very little funding went towards the controllers.

  • If I was mad at Atari for stealing Pong from Ralph Baer, then I should also be upset that Ug stole the idea of fire from Grok. ;-)

  • lol incredible that they really advertised for this game. even more incredible to know that people really played that ;)

  • i'm not quite old enough to remember pong but we had atari 2600.

  • me too. i never had pong though, but the concept is so easy and gets being spoofed in nearly every animated series sooner or later, that it's hardly possible to find someone not knowing what that game is ;)
