They did not give into popular demand, yes their sound is a little different but they are still the same wonderful band you and I fell in love with. While I respect that people have differing musical tastes, it's rude to say WT is a sellout, especially when these are hardcore fans (such as myself) you are telling this to! Sharon doesn't "howl", if you want howling, try a wolf :) She simply sings with a more aggressive style. And please, they make the music they want to, and for me, all that matters is that they care for their fans (like they currently do <3) and that they are happy.

I saw the live version from the Black Symphony. Even though she was sick, she was pretty much spot on throughout the song. Her later WT songs like Ice Queen seem to be more difficult to sing live but everything before The Dance isn't.

I don't think you can put them in any genre, you just have to listen to it. But you can count on it that it's a positive thing when WT say they were influenced by The Cure.

within temptation classifies themselves as 'symphonic metal'- many like to put them in the goth genre- their early stuff like this is of course different than their newer stuff which leans more towards symphonic metal. btw Sharon announced their new album which Celtic influenced will be released sooner than march 2011!

Hate having to admit to such a thing but personally I think something like this is a total waste of Sharon's vocal talents. She sings so clearly and beautifully normally it's almost blasphemy to have anyone grunt over the top... Although having said that I'd say her voice is a little shrill on this anyway. Nope, not a fan of this song which is very hard to say since I adore practically everything else she has done. :o(

Thing is that many of their songs (like Hand Of Sorrow) goes with a great intro, and great instrumental parts in general, but in the verses they are so slow, sometimes even in the choruses. But the Howling is also a good "energic song" so to say. I love Hand Of Sorrow, but I wish it would have been as great as the beginning through the whole song.
