Paganini is music written by a musician for musicians to practice/ show off technique. Musicians appreciate it. if you are going to bitch how it's not the most beautiful thing you've ever heard guide your uncoordinated fingers over youtube to some other composer
naah.....the camera sound doesn't help that much but i think this piece can only be nailed on the electric and Vai did it perfectly. but other than that this guy is amazing.
This is unbelieieieievable and i don't talk only about the way he plays which is amaaaaaazing but the way comments are... I mean that no greek has written any thing..... But because i am greek ΚΑΤΑΠΛΗΚΤΙΚΟ πραγματικά έχω μείνει με ανοιχτό το στόμα:οοοοοοο
Yeah, that's fast and the technique is excellent. But to be honest, it sounds like...sh*t, sorry. He's putting no feeling into it, but that's what music is all about. Where is the point in playing THAT fast?
@watisupdood Not that you'll understand but let me clarify for those who can, this is not music; this is a selection of notes played in a certain order, with absolutely no emotion or passion fused with them in order to create the divine sound that is music.
@BoeingB17FF lol do you realise how extremely stupid that comment is? Ok, I'll point out a few things wrong with what you said:
1) It's a caprice, not an etude.
2) Have you heard any other etudes before? They can be extremely musical, look towards Chopin's in particular just off the top of my head.
3) I know Paganini is considered "light music" but watch some of Pavel Steidl's 19th century guitar playing, is probably some of the most musical playing you'll ever hear.
@RandomMocker A caprice is a free-form musical piece. An etude is a piece written to improve skills. Paganini was never about musicality. He was about technicality. Yes, Chopin has etudes such as Tristesse (10-3). Those are intended to improve players' skills. Paganini wrote the caprices "for the performer" as a compilation of his techniques, 24 being the finale and including all of the techniques covered by the other 23.
@BoeingB17FF Are you joking? I know Paganini was perhaps one of the greatest technical players of all time, but to say he wasn't about musicality it ludicrous. Read some first-hand reviews from people who attended his concerts and you'll find out otherwise for yourself. I recommend Jstor.
@RandomMocker Give me a quote from a review that matches :"On one stave, for a small instrument, the man writes a whole world of the deepest thoughts and most powerful feelings. If I imagined that I could have created, even conceived the piece, I am quite certain that the excess of excitement and earth-shattering experience would have driven me out of my mind.". Paganini drew acclaim for his virtuosity. Put him alongside Bach, Rachmaninoff, Corelli, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Strauss and he's not.
@watisupdood lol at your retarded comment. If you look a few inches down the screen you'll see where I make the statement for the world to see "I'm a classical musician, a classical guitarist none the less".
I get so fed up with all the idiots pretending to have an iota of intelligence. Go back to your cave.
While I can appreciate the great amount of talent that this particular performance exhibits, I still can't appreciate the music. Music is about feeling. This is more about exhibition. Sadly, the people who usually achieve this level in music, very rarely achieve anything else in life. This is why I'm happy being the average player that I am. Good enough to make some records, but not so good that I don't have anything else.
@tico7464 I do realize that Paganini wrote this. I'm just saying that it generally takes someone very dedicated to reach this level of ability. And while a person spends those 12 hours a day practicing music, it doesn't leave much time to develope anything else in life. It becomes borderline savantism.
Holy mother of crap. This guy is like nothing I've ever seen. You can stick your arguments about whether Malmsteen or Vai is the best guitar player in the world. Dimitris has got both of them in his back pocket.
guitar players such as this one are not in the same plane as everyday good guitarist--they are on a playing field far beyond the realm of what a reg good guitarist could ever hope to be--they are gifted with what we would spend a lifetime to achieve--special and should be appreciated for that fact.
@boxtrap21 having talent doesn't really equate to becoming famous. this guy is gifted but plays music reserved for a society of people who appreciate it. most of the general public don't have appreciation for classical music, but i guess he's famous in the classical society.
@RandomMocker i don't disagree with you. you've never heard of him because you probly don't listen to classical music. i've never heard of him, either, but that doesn't mean this isn't music. its a jumble of notes, but that is considered music to some people. not me though. theres absolutely no feeling in this performance. only guitar exhibition and acrobatics. no music.
uhhh...whether it's a flamboyant show of technical skill, it really doesn't matter what type of guitar it's on. Shit, it doesn't really matter what instrument it's on. Nothing is ever a competition, technique or feel, yet guitar seems to have made it that. Kind of sad really.
i have tried but is really hard... i will keep xD until i can do it lol and btw you cant compare fingers or acustic guitar... with electric guitar and pick... i play both and acustic is much harder...
i kick ass on the guitar...now listen up....there are alot of guitarist that can kick my ass...step # 1 is to realize...there are thousands of great guitarists,... toiteus makes a great point in his comment "every guitarist has their differences" listen to what you like and learn to play it !! practice, practice practice,...these guys are not magicians !!....well i"ve got to go practice some of my licks...that i stole from every guitarist that i ever wanted to sound like......out.....
He is actually up to tempo in this version after the Arppegiated Intro... There's differences between every style of guitar... I major in Classical, I also do Jazz, Blues, Rock, Metal, and Expirimental, Every guitarrist has their differences, their speed, and use of notes... I don't prefer to listen to Metal shred because the speed picking picks every note and I prefer the gliss of pull offs to blend the notes... I prefer the origional vionlin version much better because the notes blend better..

I know I'm a little late, but I would like to clear something up anyway: classical guitar != (does not equal) acoustic guitar. An acoustic guitar has metal strings like an electric, strung to a high tension. A classical guitar is smaller, has a much bigger neck, a smaller body, and nylon strings at a lower tension. It has a mellower sound that doesn't ring out as loudly. Some of his notes are getting truncated, but for the most part that is what a classical guitar sounds like played that fast.
It is the actual Paganini's 5th Caprice, not the Vai version of it. It does sound horrible, mainly because all i can hear is the "rrrrrrrrrrgrr" of the microphone.
@XianXiuHong I'm not sure...it seems like his right hand is not keeping up with his left hand...and that is why it sounds sloppy. I mean it could be so much better don't you think???
@Jmetal83 Not quite sloppy, it's how classical guitar soundss when it's played fast. Admittedly it does lose clarity at some points, I think that's more of a flaw with the camera's microphone.
@hariskalimanis I'm sure he'd say, "awesome!" That aside, he's playing faster than most people's ears can hear...harmony that is. He's a beast of a player, I would just enjoy it more if he slowed down about 20 BPM...just sayin'.
@guitarfreek1 really?, Vai plays a simplified version for electric guitar using a pick, this piece is a lot more challenging on classical guitar, using multiple right hand fingers!
to all those fuck heads comparing wherever this is better or worst then the electic guitar version should shut the fuck up they sound diffrent because they are played phyiscally diffrently.... and arguing about how its only "fast" and not "musical" thats because its played on an diffrent instrument than the original also you cant make"arrangements"more"musical"as you only adapt the original piece to fit another instrument.if you want the original musical feel then listen to the original violin.
@XianXiuHong that is one story... dont profess things unless you know they are true. i read, but i may be wrong, that he used these to practice and thats all he practiced, not as showpieces. he had other means of showing off.
@CornDoctor Paganini basically built his career off the ability to wow audiences with his technical proficiency. It would come off as quite surprising to me if this piece were intended to showcase musicality and phrasing.
I woudn't say "miles beyond" unless you are referring to someone who isn't all that accustomed to playing on an acoustic... I can play almost everything that I play on my electric equally well on my acoustic (except for obvious things like vibrato and legato runs)
You mean playing a classical guitar. Are you going to pretend that this is even close to equal in difficulty in comparison to playing it on electric guitar? This isn't just playing on an acoustic, its playing classical style.
Other than your fine example of equivocation, playing finger style and playing with a pick is no less or no easier. It's merely a matter of what you practice, and how you dedicate your time to learning.
Take this classical guitar player an electric, and you'll notice the same drop in ability you'd expect the other way around. Neither instrument is more difficult... what you practice is what makes one easier than the other.
and you must be stupid...coz' only retards will say the words like yours...deft and dumb....fucking bullshit!!!!!!...last but not least...fuck you...do you play guitar?....or you just play your dick every time you see porn...........
you can do lots more things on electric that are impossible on accoustic. So no, you are wrong. And most people perform on electric accoustic when they have to use accoustic. So you failed on every level there my friend
Lol. Dude learn to read thats not what i said. And I can play 5th caprice and its as easy on electric as acoustic. How would accoustic be different? Ergh slightly larger neck :/
By electric guitar I dont mean a guitar hero controller mate..
You obviously don't know the difference between playing electric and *classical* guitar very well. The techniques required for each respective instrument are so widely varied, the concepts are similar but both are WORLDS apart.
@oregonskateok Agree. this is a pain in the ass for classical guitar players. And that high pinched note at 0:12 lol it seems impossible with the 4th finger
this guy is sick, but to say hes better than JASON BECKER is retarded
this guy's sitting down, jason did it standing up,significantly harder,
and also he did it with 1 pick not finger picking ,he also did it faster ,and his chromatics are much better than this guys too,and in terms of arpeggios its no question who is better,Jason also plays with feeling,Jason was the best,if he hadnt spent more than half his life paralyzed and was able to continue his playing career who knows wht guitar would be
Jason plays with fucking amp. You only touch the string and its screaming. And he plays on peace of wood without any electronics. This is fucking amazing!

This guy is incredible. Anyone who says anything negative about this is someone who could never be pleased in life. This man is a wizard.

to all those fuck heads comparing wherever this is better or worst then the electic guitar version should shut the fuck up they sound diffrent because they are played phyiscally diffrently.... and arguing about how its only "fast" and not "musical" thats because its played on an diffrent instrument than the original also you cant make"arrangements"more"musical"as you only adapt the original piece to fit another instrument.if you want the original musical feel then listen to the original violin.
lightyagarmi 2 years ago
He's technically good, but musically bad......
I've yet to see a good arrangement for this piece on classical guitar....if there is such a video please direct me to it....
alapunk13 2 years ago
The point behind this Caprice was to show off technical ability.
XianXiuHong 1 year ago
@XianXiuHong that is one story... dont profess things unless you know they are true. i read, but i may be wrong, that he used these to practice and thats all he practiced, not as showpieces. he had other means of showing off.
CornDoctor 1 year ago
@CornDoctor Paganini basically built his career off the ability to wow audiences with his technical proficiency. It would come off as quite surprising to me if this piece were intended to showcase musicality and phrasing.
XianXiuHong 1 year ago 2
@XianXiuHong nuh uh he built it off of the ability to be a freakin beast

I never thought I'd ever see the day of "Jason Bashers". This is a good clip. But you can't say this playing is at all to Jason's standard.
KarstenJohansson 2 years ago
Playing this on a classical guitar is miles beyond playing it on an electric. Infact it isn't even that difficult on electric.
oregonskateok 2 years ago
I woudn't say "miles beyond" unless you are referring to someone who isn't all that accustomed to playing on an acoustic... I can play almost everything that I play on my electric equally well on my acoustic (except for obvious things like vibrato and legato runs)
KarstenJohansson 2 years ago
You mean playing a classical guitar. Are you going to pretend that this is even close to equal in difficulty in comparison to playing it on electric guitar? This isn't just playing on an acoustic, its playing classical style.

Other than your fine example of equivocation, playing finger style and playing with a pick is no less or no easier. It's merely a matter of what you practice, and how you dedicate your time to learning.
Take this classical guitar player an electric, and you'll notice the same drop in ability you'd expect the other way around. Neither instrument is more difficult... what you practice is what makes one easier than the other.

Trust me,Your mistakes are alot more obviouse on the Classical. Ill post a Link to a good Arrangment for the CG.

and you must be stupid...coz' only retards will say the words like yours...deft and dumb....fucking bullshit!!!!!!...last but not least...fuck you...do you play guitar?....or you just play your dick every time you see porn...........
MrGuntamus 2 years ago
you can do lots more things on electric that are impossible on accoustic. So no, you are wrong. And most people perform on electric accoustic when they have to use accoustic. So you failed on every level there my friend
venom1stas 2 years ago
Are you stupid? You think this is harder to play on an electric guitar? Really? Its obvious you dont play classical guitar...
oregonskateok 2 years ago 63
Lol. Dude learn to read thats not what i said. And I can play 5th caprice and its as easy on electric as acoustic. How would accoustic be different? Ergh slightly larger neck :/
By electric guitar I dont mean a guitar hero controller mate..
venom1stas 2 years ago
@venom1stas Retard...
HardcoreDancr 1 year ago
You obviously don't know the difference between playing electric and *classical* guitar very well. The techniques required for each respective instrument are so widely varied, the concepts are similar but both are WORLDS apart.
XianXiuHong 1 year ago
@venom1stas I'm just asking, do you just started playing guitar, because it seems you have no idea about the guitar....
TheEs379 1 year ago
@oregonskateok Agree. this is a pain in the ass for classical guitar players. And that high pinched note at 0:12 lol it seems impossible with the 4th finger

@venom1stas Classical guitar players got much more talent then Metal guitar players :P

this guy is sick, but to say hes better than JASON BECKER is retarded
this guy's sitting down, jason did it standing up,significantly harder,
and also he did it with 1 pick not finger picking ,he also did it faster ,and his chromatics are much better than this guys too,and in terms of arpeggios its no question who is better,Jason also plays with feeling,Jason was the best,if he hadnt spent more than half his life paralyzed and was able to continue his playing career who knows wht guitar would be
EvHstyleTaPMaster 2 years ago
Jason Becker plays with electric and distorsion, so, we can
hear the mistakes, don't dimitris Kotronakis
To my mind, jason is a very good guitarist but don't a good musician like Page. He is fast, fast, and fast...
But they work everyone and have a very good results.
You are right, its no question who is better. =)
Listen and enjoy!
elydu34 2 years ago
very good work. This is better than jason becker in my mind.
That is a hand or a spider??
elydu34 2 years ago
Jason plays with fucking amp. You only touch the string and its screaming. And he plays on peace of wood without any electronics. This is fucking amazing!

I agree, but when it's in the studio there is no room for any mistakes as heard from many metal albums.
