  • GRRRRRRRRRRR

  • Thanks for posting this video, love it! I remember when I was a young girl growing up in south Tx back in the early 60's watching his parents family show "the Adventures of Ozzie n Harriet". Really enjoyed watching Ricky sing on the show! Ricky you left the USA a better place just by gracing us with your presence and beautiful voice. Todavia te extranamos mucho, Ricky, ("We still miss you dearly"). RIP darling.

  • RICKY NELSON IN HD!! ahaha

  • The guys behind Ricky are fake! The great Jordanaires (vocals)and legendary guitarist James Burton are who you actually hear.(as on most of his recordings from 1957 to 1963)

  • This is such a cool song. Dig that rockabilly!

  • Great little rockin' song by Rick, but where is James Burton?

  • All Rick Nelson songs are great

  • the girl in the front would leave the guy for rick nelson in a heartbeat i could see it in her eyes she was difinetly throwing the sign

  • Rick has always been a favorite of mine from whence I began tuning in r&r. I will admit I was off on many others incliding Frankie Avalon & Bobby Vee but Ricky today is the overall champ and seconds in line to Elvis who definetly earning the title roll of being the king of r&r. Ricky had the 2nd most top 10 hits I am assured of that, besides being the biggest tv celelbrity back when, I didn't tune him in cause all we had at the time was rabbit ears....you see, I live in Vancouver Cda.lol

  • Thank you for posting this video online. And helping keep the first decade of Rock and Roll. We have placed it as our vintage video pick of the week here on Rock-it Radio.

Thanks again and all the best,

    Bennie Dingo

    Rock-it Radio

  • Ricky had more hits in 1958 due to the fact that Elvis was drafted in 1958!!!!!

  • I thought I heard all of his songs and then I heard this one about 4 years ago. It is a great rockin' song, I love it! Wayne Arthur

  • He was a cutie.

  • 2 of my favorites, Ricky and Elvis but Ricky must take a second stage to Elvis.

  • @Coolrockndad I agree with you!, he has to be in the runner up position just behind Elvis but then The Music Industry & Billboard will never back us up. When we look at all the chart toppers he had plus being on tv with a prime time show for yrs on end, we have to conclude that Bobby Vee or Chuck Berry didn't do that. Thx4 posting....Ilike this song but am I to believe it wasn't another single cause I've never heard it before.

  • @Ezdduf4kuZ Dion comes in a close 3rd for me . : )

  • @Ezdduf4kuZ In 1958 he had one more hit than Elvis had ;D

  • ricky had the best marketing scam thanks to daddy Ozzie ...a weekly national TV spot

  • @djlegand I have to agree with you. And I'm a pretty big Rick Nelson fan.

  • i love the quality of this video n the song!!:D

  • What I love most about RN is his sincerity. That sort of thing is so lacking in today's "cookie cutter" music. Wish I could have met him.

  • I HAD FORGOTTEN ALL ABOUT THIS SUPERB SONG. AND THE JORDANNAIRES, WELL YOU CAN JUST ABOUT FORGET IT. THEY NAIL IT FOR HIM AND THE KING

  • GREAT SONG !!!!!!

  • great quality, exept for that one sound problen there. O&H usually doesnt come in such good quality. this is nice :)

  • Thevidiokid, I'm just guessing. It sounds like James pickin' from around this time. Very early in Rick's Teen Idol career. If you notice, we don't get to see the guy pick, we just see his hands on the neck, then the rest of the lick they show the crowd. I'm guessing for some reason, James wasn't able to make the taping. I could be wrong though.

  • good music never dies.

  • Look close, very close, I'd bet a good Buffalo nickel, he's wearing eyeshadow, whaddya think? It's an old Elvis trick.

  • Read Ricky's Wiki page, you'll get a whole new take of the guy. Turns out he was human, had issues and the rest, but the one thing that can't be denied he had rockabilly by the balls. This song is great! And a little known fact, the Jordannaires, , Elvis' backup vocalist did all Rick's harmonies - uncredited. Obviously, they don't hurt things!

  • Anybody know who the Telecaster player is on this ? It aint Burton and I've never seen a Ricky vid with the band present that has this guy.

  • This makes me want to mosh! Ricky Nelson the inventer of xHARDCOREx

  • great rocker!!! I have an ozzie and harriet dvd with doing this song. glad everyone can now see it on youtube. rick helped originate rock-a-billy.

  • i have almost no money left in my allowence between the phone bill and all the ricky nelson songs i've been buying. i cant help myself! his voice is just as beautiful as his face! ♥

  • he was kool

  • ♥Ah, ricky, you're soooo beautiful!!!♥

  • Woow Awesome! I was born in the 90's but I love the 50's yay

  • cool...didnt know this one. Thanks.

  • absolutely the best all around artist of the kind!!!!!!!!! Wish I COULD HAVE MET HIM!

  • @muttgang62

If you had you would have been even more impressed - down-to-earth, pleasant, humble - just a nice man

  • AWESOME ALL AROUND ARTIST

  • i wish i had a car like back to the future!

    i love his music!

  • i'm 23...ricky nelson one my favorite singers...dang born in the wrong generation!

  • This is the perfect genuine rock & roll song from the 50's!!!

Ricky was one of the best ever!

  • I always liked him as much or more than Elvis even though He did borrow much from ''the king'' Thanks 4 sharing.

  • no James Burton?

  • First time I ever heard this. His music is off the charts. There are no words for Rick Nelson. What a rocker. Great sound for ever and ever. No other sounds will ever compare. Love it

  • Excelente tema de Ricky Nelson. Un ícono de los años 50 que por siempre será inolvidable!:

  • Other than his slower ballads this is one of my favorite Ricky Nelson songs.

I only heard it about 8 years ago when I purchased his "Ricky Sings Again" LP

  • The are just lip syncing to the studio version of the song. The bass player is just faking the bass part. Many times the musicians were played by actors at first.

  • Now all I need is a dancing partner!!!

  • Thanks! I've been wondering about who that was on guitar on this song from 1959 myself. I knew it wasn't Joe Maphis. "You Tear Me Up" was on the "Ricky Sings Again" LP.

  • His name is Jerry Styner,,very nice guy as a mater of fact... RWB

  • Quite clearly, that ain't James Burton on guitar [somebody else, miming to James' solo!] anybody know who he is? I've seen him one one or two other Nelson clips also.

  • He is smokin' ...

Better than anything in 2009, musically, and for sure physically-

My kids say old time rock and rollers are Yuck- ugly....boring!! Until I showed them Rick(y) Neslon- They are now ..OOH, he was gorgeous and had a fabulous voice.

Vintage American Rock and Roll hotties Live and Sing ON!!!

    You are RARE!!

  • Love this ' Tear me up ' ... You got it ,Awesome great song, and Yes better than anything in 2009

  • One of his best songs, no doubt, but what I'd like to know is, who is the "girl" in the audience who is featured in the middle of the video. Did I read somewhere that she was his girlfriend of the time?

  • ricky was cool, he could rock, this was before botex

  • WoW..Ricky sings James Plays Sologuitarr :)

  • The song is great! Thanks for posting.

  • i jus tlove this music

i live in the wrong year

  • @scapiro0belgium i feel the same way

  • Ricky Nelson was the coolest dude to ever walk this planet.

  • Back again to say what a great old song and thanks again to Jerry Styner for his comment about this performance. Wouldn't hurt to put reruns of Ozzie and Harriet on TV Land since the show ran longer than any other sitcom and it was really funny anyway. RWB

  • tres bon merci

  • Thanks for the post.

  • I don't believe James Burton was working with Elvis who was also not playing Vegas at the time this TV footage was made. James Burton hooked up with Elvis in 1969, though Elvis played The Frontier in Vegas back in '56 but with his original band of Scotty Moore and Bill Black.

  • Thanks for the info Jerry Styner. Anyway you did appear to be playing and singing and it is still a great song. Met Ricky briefly when he performed in Evansville, Indiana and he was very cordial. Also the Ozzie and Harriet show is still one of the great sitcoms of all time, especially with Wally and Ginger sparking it up. Again thanks for your response and take care. RWB

  • James Burton did most of the lead guitar on his songs but whoever this guy is he's darn good. RWB

  • My name is Jerry Styner and I am the guitar player in this video -- sort of. The actual guitar track was played by James Burton -- I was just "sidelining," much like lip-syncing only playing instead. This was a common practice on TV shows - in fact it still is. James usually would appear on the show, sidelining his own recorded performance, but he was in Las Vegas with Elvis at the time, so I got the gig!

Hope that's not too disappointing to you - it sure was fun to do!

  • What was Ricky like?

  • Imagine a young man who was a friend to everyone. Ricky was never in a hurry. Anyone could walk up to him and start talking. He'd listen for as long as you needed him to.

This was Ricky off camera. He was cool, calm and collected in those days. He really was just as you see him in "Ozzie and Harriet". He had tremendous poise and confidence.

It wasn't until the 70s that he started to have some issues. Drugs got hold of him and changed him in ways that no one wanted to believe.

  • Interesting - who are the other musicians in this video? Do you still remember? I think Ricky had more TV-exposure than Elvis in those days and the screen quality is much more better - maybe because these aren''t live on TV?

  • omg, i love ricky nelson and elvis, but this is almost exactly like all shook up.

  • wow your right, i didnt notice until i read your comment. good call.

  • Who is the guitarist? Could it be a young Reggie Young? Fabulous, as always with Ricky.

  • Vicki Tasso sings a song dedicated to Ricky Nelson called "Dear Ricky". You can find it here on youtube. Its a must hear for Ricky fans and for fans of the oldies.

  • yeah i know that one ,heard it other week !

  • I can't find that, and I'd really like to hear it.

  • Still enjoy coming back to this,,RWB

  • Great,,RWB

  • both guitar and bass are awesome on all ricks early records

  • too wicked cool!

  • Who is that guitarist?? Thanks people!

  • James Burton

  • Obviously that guy isn`t James Burton.

  • Ricky was a great performer and did not have to jump around on stage to impact the older rock and roll era. His songs were good and he had great people backing him up. I believe his parents and brother had alot to do with that,, anyway sadly missed

  • This is the essence of genuine 50's rock &

roll and Ricky was sure one of the best

together with Elvis and Jerry Lee

  • Great song I never have heard by him,,RWB

  • Heard Chris Isaak perform this song on TV around 2005 in honor of Rick Nelson's tragic passing 20 years before. Perhaps the ultimate honor was Isak not changing ANYTHING in his rendition and performing it almost note-for-note! Though it's usually a forgotten Nelson classic, it's still a great song after all these years.

  • Great song. I'm a big fan of his but I never heard this song. We love ya Rick.

  • he was great!!!

  • a rare song you never here....but still a great one....we miss him very much...another

idol taken from us way too soon....his music will live on for ever!!!!
