Is it one of those villages that have been overrun by rich snobby people moving out to the countryside so none of the true locals can afford to buy a house so have to move away from where they grew up?
I now live in lancaster, temporarily, but after growing up in south lancashire, and spending most of my life there, I have to say that lancaster is the least "northern" town in the north. It doesnt have much of a northern character compared to elsewhere in the north, which isnt neccesarily a bad thing in some instances! Its not representative of lancs as a whole.
I grew up thinking that, to be posh, one has to live down south, so to live in a "posh" town up north seems incongruent and very odd.

Compared to some of the shitholes I've frequented in this good county, Lancaster is 'posh'.
One has only to travel across the lune 3 0r 4 miles to confirm this assertion..
