I must have heard this lovely song about a decade ago at primary school, and almost forgot it until I heard it again in a shop last year. I needed to know what it was called, but didn't find out until today, when I was lucky enough to hear it on TV. I was so happy I literally danced for two minutes while it played.
My thanks go to my SoundHound app, which pointed me to this page. And thank you to Mike Oldfield for turning me into a little kid who is excited about Christmas!
I'll totally buying a hurdy-gurdy! Yes, I know it's absent form this song, but all those other folk instruments remind me I want one. Maybe I'll offer my services to Mike Oldfield for another version :p
i always imagine this is being performed live in a pub and gatecrashers start arriving and joining in - until the local heavy metal nut arrives and starts playing his guitar over the top - and yet it works fantastically!
For some reason whenever I listen to this song I just imagine Elves dancing with tankards in a house in Rivendell or something... something from Lord of the Rings or the Elder Scrolls or whatever!
had to laugh, my autistic son said to me " mum who sang that xmas song?" i said "which one?" he said..........."the one with no words" lol we got there in the end and here we are both sitting here do do do do doing
I heard this song about six years ago on the radio and I've always wanted to know what it was. Today I was in Tesco buying lunch and it was playing so I recorded it on my phone, and after a bit of asking around and research BOOOOOOM here I am! I love this guitar solo!
This song makes Xmas for me, always has , always will do, heard it on radio 2 at work today.. As ya get older yeah its not as '' magical '' as when you were young, but this song brings the '' magic '' of xmas to all ages , i aint bothered about getting presents too much now im 22 yrs old all i ask is for this song to be played from december 1st - 25th every year , WITHOUT fail!!
my children at work love this song and always makes me smile to see them shuffling there bums on the floor so cute. to be fair this is also mine and hubby to bes song we picked duno why think its cause it can be played all year round like it is with us
We play this at the store I work at and when it comes on, I just want to skip around like a child! Teeeeee! We also play Phil Spector's Christmas Album too. The only time of year that we play decent music!
He also did a version of the Sailor's Hornpipe with the greatest British Prize Loony of his era, Vivian Stanshall. And that was against Keith Moon, Spike Milligan and Graham Chapman, none of whom for various reasons quite matched up.
Don't know if it is true, but i heard he put this together whilst waiting for other musicians who were late to turn up to the recording studio.......anyone shed any light on this? Oh, and what a talented bloke by the way........
@gaydad4eva If your going to troll, choose a less obvious name. Noone is in the slightest bit bothered about you or your point of view. The only reason I point this out is because I feel bad for you and your underdeveloped member. I know this because normal people dont have such an inferiority complex.
