  • Mike Oldfield is a truly talented musician. This I regard as one of his best ever, and indeed, an all-time great. Top of the class Mike. :)

  • I have had this song in my head for weeks! Only now have I managed to find it, finally!

  • Genius

  • This track shouldn't just be for Christmas. It should be played anytime.

  • @john5000ize Spot-on. I couldn't agree more.

  • Legend!

  • 43 mensen hebben geen smaak!

  • In December 1975, had they brought out electronic multi-tracking or was it still done using tape?

  • I must have heard this lovely song about a decade ago at primary school, and almost forgot it until I heard it again in a shop last year. I needed to know what it was called, but didn't find out until today, when I was lucky enough to hear it on TV. I was so happy I literally danced for two minutes while it played.

My thanks go to my SoundHound app, which pointed me to this page. And thank you to Mike Oldfield for turning me into a little kid who is excited about Christmas!

  • What a tune... First performed in the 14th century.... My fav Xmas tune ever...

  • I'll totally buying a hurdy-gurdy! Yes, I know it's absent form this song, but all those other folk instruments remind me I want one. Maybe I'll offer my services to Mike Oldfield for another version :p

  • i always imagine this is being performed live in a pub and gatecrashers start arriving and joining in - until the local heavy metal nut arrives and starts playing his guitar over the top - and yet it works fantastically!

  • Belter, especially the guitar riff <3

  • Dit is te gek!

  • @peterheinis Kwam jij hier ook omdat je het net op de Top 2000 hebt gehoord? :P

  • @GangsterWizzy Agreed.

  • I love this tune! Its so...happy!! -starts whistling along-

  • great song....

  • Blue Peter.

  • @drzarkov1 Almost. Mike Oldfield did a cover of The Sailor's Hornpipe for Blue Peter. :-D

  • @Sazzied2

He also did a version of the Sailor's Hornpipe with the greatest British Prize Loony of his era, Vivian Stanshall. And that was against Keith Moon, Spike Milligan and Graham Chapman, none of whom for various reasons quite matched up.

  • @gaydad4eva gaydad4eva?

  • @gaydad4eva If your going to troll, choose a less obvious name. Noone is in the slightest bit bothered about you or your point of view. The only reason I point this out is because I feel bad for you and your underdeveloped member. I know this because normal people dont have such an inferiority complex.
