Big fan of 'heavy music'. Only calling it that because i listen to a wide range of metal influenced genres and am trying to avoid arguing over names of genres. Because really i don't give a fuck what it's called, i only care what it sounds like. But this just doesn't do it for me. Can someone tell me what they like about this? I find it's lacking energy, but am interested in a constructive opinion.

You can play Death Metal on any type of guitar, playing a Dean doesn't make it more "heavier", that's ridiculous, it's called having lower gauge strings( for lower tunings, even though any type of Death Metal can even be played in E Standard, it's all about distortion), and having a very thick guitar pick.

Most death metal even though I'm not a fan of it I know uses more to their tone than just distortion.The scales played has a lot to do with it "exotic" (e.g. phrygian dominant, Arabic) and minor scales (e.g. harmonic minor, Romanian) normally are used. You can't exactly play death metal in a major scale.
