  • why so down on your singing? I dunno man...i needed to learn this fast for band practice, and you taught it to me...thanks

  • Very nice! Check out my version if you get a chance!

  • LOL at the Kermit, Muppet reference above. Epic

  • Great cover dude who cares if you can't sing you're havin fun that's all that matters man plus you did a great job with the instrumental :)

  • Good job .

  • thanks. helps a lot. project more with the vocals it will help.

  • think you helped me alot, just a friendly suggestion next video show your other hand also to show the strum patterns.

  • you are a good singer, well done!

  • at the here and now part i play a different c but other then that all the sames

  • "no point in insulting something I agree with you about" I effin love it man!! This is by far the best tutorial on here.

  • thanks dude one of my favourite songs and yea i agree alot of the other vids i watched were wrong

  • its great hey cud u make a vid with all the courds and the strumming pattern

  • there in the info, the strumming pattern just go listen to the song

  • Well done man. It took me a while to get the strum pattern down too but you nailed it. A little trick for people trying to learn it: On the third chord you don't really need to drop the middle finger on the B string 8th fret. I leave it off and just play the A and D strings. It doesn't sound a whole lot different but makes the song a lot easier. Well done man!

  • geez this "is" really hard =S ... thank you very much though =)

  • Not bad dude, its not that you can't sing - its more you don't sound like the singer from fuel. The vocals were ok.

Oh and by the way, you did play the song correctly. Good job on the song

  • thanks man.. awesome cover and vocals the strumming patters a bitch lol but i got it thanks keeep rokin! xD

  • Awesome job man! very nice on both guitar and vocals!

  • singing a little nasal/ pee-wee hermany. good guitar though

  • thx to me you have 1 thumb up... now its only -1 thumb down. Cause you wanna know why? ,... because there is truth in what you say

  • well obviously you jamoke if you read the info it says dont mind his singing he was just keeping pace with the guitar

  • Thanks for posting this! You're right - I tried several others, but none of them sounded quite right. You've nailed it.

  • you did a great job..i'm learning this song from your video, thanks

  • wat u talkin about ur voice is good

  • Wow! Perfect!!

  • voice aint bad at all

you should try do some smashing pumpkin covers. ya voice would go real good with it.

  • its true it would

  • Idk, I don't think that would work well. But he might as well try. It's always good to know a song or two by one of the best bands ever

  • @AtTheYMCA dito

  • u r awesome. infact your singing isnt that bad. keep on rockin.

  • Anyone tell you you almost sound like Billy Corgan?

  • Nothing wrong with the singing mate. And the guitar playings ace. Nice one

  • Strumming pattern I'm finding hard to get.... can anyone help me out?

  • Nothing wrong with your singing!

As long as it makes you happy thats what its all aabout dude!

  • nice work man thanks a lot for the chord clarification

  • the one chord x20210 is a normal Dsus2 chord with an F# added, so F#/D2 is the chord.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still not as good as this guy but I have to get educated on the chord names to make up for my suckiness. BTW at least he sang in tune, so singing wasn't bad.

  • excellent job

  • whats the strumming pattern

  • Much props to bigcheese for this. Also,

Timmyd: I know you can figure that out on your own. Strumming patterns aren't hard to figure out.

  • Not only can you sing, but you nailed it, the whole song, great job!

  • dude you can sing never doubt yourself you mighty be better than most people but at the same time you all have potential.

  • donald duck!

  • thanks very good

  • Nothing's wrong with your singing buddy. Clearly english is not your mother tongue. So it sounds great to me. Plus it helps me a lot learnng the chords transitions. Thanks and good job again.

  • other than that ur really good!

  • dude you should teach a lesson on here of what ur playing because the strumming and the chords are hard to play

  • great playing ..didnt even look to how to play it ..i just enjoyed his playing

  • Like others have said, it's the best Shimmer lesson AND cover on the Tube right now. Thanks for getting it right.

    BTW, I like your singing.

  • nice job man...flawless playing

  • i dont think the singing was that bad

  • haha he sounds like kermit the frog. but who cares...i cant sing either. its an instructional vid. good job

  • Dude, I seriously wanna learn how to play this song and your video totally helps. Thanks! XD

  • i've been looking at shimmer covers on you tube and I def think yours is the best. Awesome guitar skills.

  • Dude your singing is fine and your guitar playing is great. Maybe only thing I could suggest on the singing is trying to sing less through the nose and more through the diaphragm. That way you project a lower sound that would go with this song. Either way I think you did great and you do it better than me.

  • sweet deal

  • thank you very much

  • this was the best guitar part I've seen.. wish I could say the same about the singing

  • holy shit someone actual doesnt know how to play this song! lol nice i take it u didnt u any tabs right? i couldnt find any that were write so i tabbed it myself

  • tutorial my ass

  • good man..the singinh wasnt bad

  • PD:you have a messy room

  • thanks dude love the song

  • God easy to play, easy to sing... doing both at the same time though. Forget about it, I'm trying and you're helping me very much!

    Thank you!

  • Hah good job man. U kinda sounded like Microsoft Sam at the end of the first hook. Funny

  • That was good! I know it's hard. Brett Scallions is one of the best musicians who can play and sing at the same time. Keep it up.

  • nice tutorial ^^

  • Thanks that made it alot easier to learn.

That last chord is a C/G. great cover

  • thanks!

  • Wow man great job, and the singing wasn't all that bad. Your guitar playing is brilliant!

  • Dude Clean your room before you shoot a video LOL ;P Not bad

  • kermit the frog!!! :D

  • haha true 0:56

  • x35050

    x57070

    x57080

if you have trouble sliding to that third chord, try it this way. just move you pinky up a fret for that third chord in the verse

  • your voice sounds like it's whining a bit. try and sound a bit more manly.. lol.

    i liked it though

  • hey, if u have trouble getting the fingering down, play an e minor emphasizing the high e and then play a d chord and hit the third fret for the high part. the chorus is self-explanatory.

  • good guitar tone. vocals need a bit o work

  • Whenever I try the C chord or D chord, it sounds a bit odd.

My guitar is tuned properly in standard tuning.

    Any advice?

  • you mean in the verse?

    x35050 (first chord)

    x57070 (second chord)

    x79080 (third one)

    ----

(you might be playing x79090 for the last chord, maybe thats why it sounds off)

(um.. and other than that, make sure you're not playing the low E string on those chords-- what i do is I mute it with the edge of my pointing-finger)

(and.... make sure you get the rhythm right.. try playing muting everything till u get it)

the rest of the song is simple chords no one can mess up.

  • i have the same problem, the second chord for me is clearly not the same as what everyone else is playing....it just doesnt sounds off, and im not playing the first string either...anyone else have this problem?

  • When I play the song I don't hit the low e string at all, the beat of the song takes a long time to get down, I must have played this song for a year before I could sing to it at the same time, keep practicing and you will get it! I put my version on here as a video response, let me know what you think!

  • u really aren't that bad at singing.

and the guitar was perfect (I reckon)so thnx alot

  • Sounds great man!

    Best cover on youtube.

  • dude, you seriously arent a bad singer. so dont beat your self up over it, cause you rocked this song out man :]

your lucky i cant even do guitar chords. i have tryed, and ive always wanted to do a cover of this song..

  • very cool!

  • way to go man i wish you post some more videos

  • I'm still having trouble with this song. I'm using Rick Thornburgh's chords which appear on many of the guitar sites. Your version sounds just the way I want to play this song. Anyone have the chords Dan is using?

  • Okay so I really have no idea who Dan is, but it's not me. The chords I used are listed in the "about this video" info on the right, if you click the "more" link I wrote some stuff on how I play it. I don't know what to say about the strumming pattern though since I really just listened to the song a lot and strummed freely until it sounded pretty close.

  • Hey Dan, Thanks for showing me the chords!

    Chicks really dig this song.

Now clean up that room dude, you're never going to get laid in a room like that

  • hi dan!

  • Yeh actually I can't work out the strumming pattern either.

  • Can someone tell me the strumming pattern? That's all I want to know.

  • :) cool

  • It's alrite man I like muppets lol!!

  • just being honest = guitar playing is acceptable although you should tune it - your vocals sound like kermit the frog - in conclusion, you should be a muppet

  • lol

  • Hahaha

  • @Slimtwin75 - why do you gotta be an arse? someone takes the time to post a video and the chords for free and you gotta rip him? he acknowledged in his intro that he doesn't have a good voice. Are you one of these guys that contributes nothing to society and just rips everyone else? get a life.

  • @Slimtwin75 AJAJAJJAJAJa

  • this was good man. i look forward to seeing more vids from you. keep on rocking

  • I cannot believe this song is as 'easy' as this to play. Compared to the fingering I was using before, this is a piece of cake. Thanks for the video. Also whoever said that your hands were moving too fast or whatever... that's crap. The video nicely illustrates WHERE to play the chords and what fingering to use, if you want it to be slow, pause it. If you're looking at this vid then obviously you're a guitar player and should be able to figure some of it out on your own

  • Thanks, that helped a lot. Now I just have to practice those quick chord changes.

  • I enjoyed that .

  • thanx dude u rok u helped me a lot!

  • good playing and nice instructions.

  • Pretty good job man, I didn't realize this song was as easy as it is, and the singing wasn't bad at all!

  • wow good ass job

  • real good job, best shimmer cover on this site

  • good job

  • Hey man.... it's amazing the way you play guitar!!!

    It's a good song... congratulations!!!

Hey take a look to my band's space... you're gonna like it!!!

    myspace/poloopuestomusic

    It's 100 % Rock 'n' Roll

  • Yay, this is the way I play it! I still have trouble singing while strumming though. Great job!

  • Wow . . . is it really necessary to blast a guy who posted something HE already knew to share it with us?

    Ingrate.

    Nice vid.

  • hey man

    great job

    sining is ok too

    wats the strumming pattern ?

  • great job buddy

how does the strumming pattern go

i can play the chords but i dont know the strumming pattern

  • the vocals aren't that bad! good work.

  • lol, you may not have been the best singer ive heard but i gotta agree with downtownbrown85, its about time sum1 played it properly. wat kinda guitar is that?

  • It's a Silver Creek model made by Musician's Friend (I think). It was a limited edition, the specs and woods were too irresistible to pass up. I love it.

  • Finally, someone that is playing it correctly...

That being said, don't "tutorials" teach people how to play rather then just show them with rapid hand moves that are pretty much impossible to follow anyways?

  • The "tutorial" part of the title was referring more to the fact that I play it this way, not the way most videos on this site are played. I'd be more than happy to provide tablature or an explanation of how I played it to anyone that asks.

  • thats perfect playing man! not 2 bad on the vocals either. Can you do a proper tutorial on this one explaining strumming patterns. I got the chords down pat just can't strum it out right.

  • Thanks for the kind words. If I get a chance I'll try to make a video of the strumming pattern, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to.. It's mostly free strumming, I'm not really doing the same thing every time. I really think your best bet is to try to play it next to the actual recording. There's a program called Transcribe that allows you to slow MP3 files down without changing the pitch, it's great for these purposes. Maybe you should check it out.

  • Hey, top stuff. Can u post tab to how u r playing the chorus. Can't see behind ur fingers. I know there are Em, C and D's. Looks like u have subtle variations that sound cool. Thanks

  • Hey, thanks for the comment. I think the chord you're talking about is the little "ghost" note between the Am and the C, it's x20210. I have all the chords I used in the description of the song.. you have to click "more" but it's all there. Thanks again, and thanks to everyone else that's said anything, I appreciate all your responses.

  • Hey, thanks for the tip about the "more" link....got the fingering right now! Great lesson and explanation for an awesome song on the acoustic! Hope to catch a few more of ur demos in future! Thanks again.

  • u sing better than me mate. good playing too.
