It is unfortunate that health care reform proponents have continually attacked the insurers. Health care costs are primarily increasing because of unnecessary tests due to lawsuits. It law firms hiring new people figuring that there are more lawsuits possible when there are more people covered by the government..(Notice the 20 billion tab for the phony breast implant issue that we all paid from our health insurance dollars?)
It will destroy the economy as obama is beholden to the lawyers
Did she just say "...myths perpetuated by special interests who don't want healthcare reform..."? What the hell is AARP if not special interest. They sell supplemental insurance for medicare recipients.
If government healthcare is so great, why do people on medicare NEED to buy supplemental insurance? obviously government healthcare doesn't cover eveything so AARP wants you to be insurance from them.
Download this piece of garbage and read it (H.R.3200) the bill is full of very scary rules. THEY OWN us. This has NOTHING to do with health care. First they took control of Wall Street, the Banks, 2 of our 3 Auto Companies, Pre- K through higher Ed, now 5th of our economy. They want to take over the internet and private networks ( down load the 2009 Cyber Security Act and read it). If we let this go there is no turning back.
AARP speaks out of both sides of their mouth. They came out against Medicare Advantage plans and advocated penalizing them (just as in the healthcare bill) and now they have begun sponsoring a Medicare Advantage program for AARP members.
Of course it will be a more expensive, less beneficial plan because the healthcare bill that AARP endorsed includes penalties and restricts these plans.
They don't want to miss the opportunity to profit even on coverages they don't believe in.
If AARP is our" trusted source" of health care information then please tell me why at least 25,000 members dropped their membership as soon as AARP endorsed the health care reform bill. What we need is tort reform, tax breaks for doctors that provide free treatment, and interstate competition of health insurance.
AARP has a membership of about 35 million, so you're saying 0.07 percent of its members reacted that way after months of deceptions and misinformation from opponents of healthcare reform, while 99.9993 percent did not do anything like that. What does that say then?
I renewed my own membership that week in response to their support of badly needed healthcare reform. Do you have any info on how many others also renewed, or are you and Fox news only advertising the fraction that resigned?
Can someone explain to me how a tax on my health insurance carrier, a tax on the company that makes my drugs and a tax on my lab tests is going to reduce my healthcare costs ?? seems like smoke and mirrors to me.
In the end we will all be paying more and getting less. Watch !!
The fact is, even without the public option, healthcare reform must happen. Its a case of the haves vs. the have-nots. As a current member of the US military, I see no problem in making available to the public the healthcare that I have.
I'd like to hear what these health reform nay-sayers would say if they lost their coverage in a time of need. Or had to choose between bankruptcy and the care you need.
Talk about a bureaucrat coming between you and your healthcare. Reform must happen now
AARP or is it USSR is suggesting that the issue is about reform, it is not it is about a GOVERNMENT OPTION which is exactly what will sink the free market.

AARP does have something to gain. They sell health insurance - the Medigap type. I suspect they will see a huge increase in their market with any government managed coverage al la Medicare.
Here is why the AARP "myth" about rationing won't go away.
There is a limited supply of medical resources (Docs, nurses, other personnel, hospitals clinics, etc). Universal coverage will increase demand on those resources. With no monitary incentives (& nothing I have read indicates that there will be), the supply won't insrease. Call it what you will, but when the demand exceeds the supply, access becomes limited. AARP and the Administration denials are not believable.

There should be some laws made about discrimination, and the removal of judges who say that someone paralyzed by an operation that had less then a 20% chance of success is not entitled to $2o million because that is just ridiculous. Laws against as large settlements for malpractice would reduce the price of healthcare, because doctors would not have to pay near as high premiums for their insurance.

There's no detail, no "facts", as they claim, and certainly hasn't convinced me that this is anything more than what the "special interests" are saying it is. I wonder if special interests include the people showing up at town hall meetings, or the details of the bill that have been quoted for my own interpretation, give me a break.
Free market (private business for profit) is the best way the only way to provide the best quality and lowest cost for products, services and research. Government controls drive up costs increase unnecessary demands on the system and taxpayer, creates a humongous bloated bureaucracy with a shit load of employee benefits (the sky is always the limit for wasted over-head) and delivers crap.
Medicare D was one of the worse things that the Bush Administration could have put out there. So many people are getting screwed by private health "care" insurance companies. The bottom lline is the bottom line. They are for profit companies and they are using your premiums right now to stop reform. This is crazy! They are using your money to stop you from getting the best health care. Let's not fall for this misinformation.
Democrat socialists put health care in this mess back in the 1960's with the twin monstor programs medicare and then medicaid. Under Nixon the first health care reform was passed due to sky rocketing medicaid cost.
The answer then was Managed Care, that was the crack in the door. HMO lobbyists realizing the enormous profits to be made eventually kicked the door in.
That caused private insurances to adopt that scheme and prices to sky rocket at the same pace as govt health schemes.
So, you guys are against having the government run healthcare because they will ration it. But you are happy to have private companies run the system and decide which doctors/hospitals/drugs/conditions they will treat? Makes no sense to me. You can always vote the government out of office if you don't like them. But you can't touch those companies...
I've been researching the hr3200 bill and these things you say about euthanizing old people is utterly ridiculous! Stop spreading paranoid lies, calm down and actually pay attention to what you're reading without anger driven bias! Really, I'm sick of these insane, unwarranted, childish tantrums!
Ms, under any healthcare, someone is going to get the shaft. I guess that's okay as long as it's not you or your family! Second, calm the fuck down! You think ranting and raving is gonna help? Maybe if people like you could debate in a rational manner, people might take you seriously instead of making yourself look like a terrified, right wing nutjob!
Re. people coming to US for medical care. Watch out for statistics. Medical tourism is a 2-way street. Has little to do with quality or system. Thousands are recruited by US medical sources and imported for care, complete with-families & air fare. Billions $ at stake. What about US citizens going abroad for care. Over 1.5 million in 08. Overwhelmingly report excellent care; much lower costs; great service. Whole issue is point-less, except for those who cannot afford US care.
No, I wouldn't call them arrogant because they've seen firsthand what it's like to live in other countries, and appreciate what America has to offer. Americans never seem to be satisfied despite this. Also, there are millions of Americans who want healthcare reform because they own or work for small businesses who can't afford healthcare. Not to mention countless people who have died or been turned away because of so-called 'pre-existing conditions'.
Those who say youve read HR 3200. Would you quote location & language where you get death panel etc? I am a health policy analyst with decades of experience, and I dont see what you are ranting about. Also, to call someone a #%**& liar without any evidence says a lot more about the author than the person to whom it is being directed. Do you think anybody takes arcane comments with snippets and platitudes, punctuated with uncouth potty-mouth and gosh epithets seriously? Grow Up.
If this health care reform passes congress it mean the disabled, young and old, who have been bled dry might actually be able to enjoy their life without having to come up with thousands of dollars while they can't work.
Have you read this bill HR3200??? You most certainly haven't or you live in a daydream world. In a government-run healthcare system those least likely to be able to take care of themselves are no longer a "viable" part of society and therefore they get the "end of life" speech and not much else - oh, except the pill that puts them to sleep.....forever! Get a clue - what you are "dreaming" of is a nice dream, but certainly not reality with this bill, this Congress or this so-called President!
Hey AARP! Have you heard of Ezekiel Emanuel? Have you studied his Complete Lives System? If you haven't you are doing a disservice to your clients, of whom my mother is one. Look into it. You OWE it to your clients.
msrevere, look up healthcare reform on wikipedia, and then tell us that American healthcare is the best in the world. This is no time for American arrogance.
I'm telling you what people from all around the world have told me - but I agree with them! Canada, Britain, Germany, Japan, India....just to name a few come here by the 1000s to use our system so are they being "arrogant", too? The healthcare reform being "offered" by this current administration is not one that I or millions of other Americans want and we do have the right to have our voices heard.....and the people in D.C. need to start listening. I never said our system was "perfect".
I would like you to provide a video of detractors of obama-care. You cannot ensure anything in the long term. Anything put in place today will change in the years to come because of politcs. Just as the income tax, social security, medicare, etc. Please provide access to the other positions so we can make an informed decision rather than using your interpretation. (how may of you contributed to the democratic party or obama campaing?)
Shame on you AARP for publishing this video of lies and propaganda for the Democrats - bipartisan my eye! Obviously, none of you at that place have read HR3200 and the Affordable Health Choices Act - I have and it punishes the very people you supposedly represent most of all! None of what Congress has purposed is something good for America or her people.....it IS government-run healthcare, it IS rationing and it IS evil! Our system isn't perfect, but it's the best in the world!
For over 10 years I worked at an international airport and saw 1000s of people come here for our medical system - statistics lie, too, in the right hands and I'm going by personal experience. Canada came in first for numbers coming here to use our healthcare system so if you think this kind of reform is better than what we have, then why don't you try living there?
Just yesterday, Obama claimed that AARP endorsed his plan. That is a blatant lie. AARP does endorse reforming our nations healthcare, and improving it, BUT, they have NOT endorsed any plan, that is presently being discussed in Congress.
The president did not say AARP endorsed his plan. Furthermore no completed bill exists to endorse.
He did say the AARP would NOT be endorsing a bill that undermines Medicare. This is true. Now, had he said the the AARP would be endorsing a bill that undermines Medicare. That would be untrue.
The President also said the AARP is on board. Evident by this video supporting Health Care Reform and debunking the myths.
This video only endorses Health Care Reform, Obama's plan was not mentioned. He said,We have the AARP on board because they know this is a good deal for our seniors. AARP has never said that any of the plans, presently being discussed are "a good deal for our seniors". Stating that AARP was on board "because THIS is a good deal", is a false statement. As you said yourself, "no completed bill exists", so there is no "This" in existance yet.
Sorry, but THIS does exist in the way of House bill HR3200 and the new Senate passage of the Affordable Health Choices Act just out of Committe....READ THEM!! Neither of them are a "good deal" for anyone in this country!
CBMAN, you are way off base. Obama lied through his teeth yesterday. AARP said ""While the President was correct that AARP will not endorse a health care reform bill that would reduce Medicare benefits, indications that we have endorsed any of the major health care reform bills currently under consideration in Congress are inaccurate." So even AARP understood that Obama's statement, about them being onboard" BECAUSE THIS IS A GOOD DEAL", was a lie.
I don't care what the damn bill reads. I don't want the government deciding my health care and accessing my bank account! I like LaRouche's proposal. Thanks for the info myangels7!
I vote NO to the gov-run health care. Less gov is a good thing!
AARP.....Have you people read the Health Care Reform bill....If you had, you will know how many holes were left open to allow distortions in all stages health care.
FACT: Over 1100 pages that lawyers are having a hard time interpreting....don't tell me it won't be distorted in the future!!!
FACT: The government is about to get access to our bank accounts if this passes.
O'Reilly interviewed that AARP spokeman and he denied AARP is promoting this Health Care Reform...yet here they are trying to convince us that it is a good thing.
AARP just lost me! If you don't listen to us...oh what am I saying...YOU LOST US BECAUSE YOU LIE!
Imagine the complete hatred for Vets the government must have to claim that when I was in the Navy I was exposed to asbestos and the day I left the exposure was suddenly removed.
The reason people are angry and screaming at these meetings is because for way too long elected officials have forgotten who they work for and where the money comes from originally.
Shame on you Jennie Chin Hansen R.N you violated your oath as a nurse! Watch government health care at work come with me and visit the VA. When I was in the Navy I was exposed to Asbestos and my medical record had a red ASBESTOS stamped on the jacket and I was monitored every 6 months. When I left after 8 years of service on September 19, 1980 I was no monitored. I am no longer monitored because the VA would discover the cancer long before it was fatal and THAT would cost the VA money.
I'm amazed by the people who've consumed the insurance companies cool-aid. The insurance companies high-paid bureaucrats make life-and-death decisions by cancelling policies when members get "too" sick and their coverage gets "too" expensive, and by denying coverage needed to keep members alive because it's "experimental" like a heart or liver transplant, or "too" expensive. We need the Obama plan that prevents the insurance companies from revoking policies and denying coverage.
Hey Nimrod - have you even read the bill???!!! Obama's "plan" is single-payer, universal, socialized healthcare, and if you think that is a better plan than the system that people come from all around the world to access, then go live in Canada or Europe! Our system is not perfect, and it does need some improvements, but not the government-controlled overhaul that's being presented - READ THE DOCUMENTS!!!(HR3200 & the Affordable Health Choices Act )
Myth: None of the health care reform proposals being considered by Congress would cut Medicare benefits.
Fact: They couldnt fix Medicare....so now they want the entire country on it!
Myth: Health care reform will lower prescription drug costs for people in the Medicare Part D coverage gap, so they can get better afford the drugs they need.
Fact: Once you are in the end of life program in hospice you will stay there for 3 weeks and then your food and water will be withheld until you die.

Your statement about end of life in hospice is a blatant lie and you fucking KNOW it.
Yet another prejudiced apostle of the fuckwadism, partisan of the Protect-my-Country-from-"socialists" (the new code word for Black and colored people huh?) credo, posting lies upon lies upon lies.
Mtl4us2....It seems you are outnumbered by opposition to your claims in this forum! May I suggest you read the bill instead of making claims you know nothing about! It's all in the Flow Chart.
Now run along and wash your liberal lying mouth out with something besides KOOLAID!

Myth: Health care reform will hurt Medicare.
Fact: None of the health care reform proposals being considered by Congress would cut Medicare benefits.
Fact: Health care reform will lower prescription drug costs for people in the Medicare Part D coverage gap, so they can get better afford the drugs they need.
Fact: Rather than weaken Medicare, health care reform will strengthen the financial status of the Medicare program.
Yes we need health care reform...NO we don't need obama's plan....Please go to this website for the real healthcare reform larouchepac(dot)com.
LaRouche has the plan that will pull this country through our health care dilemma but obama refuses to listen because it does not include euthanasia clauses.
Why would AARP, the nation's largest seniors group, supposedly working for the elderly, support an ObamaCare bill?
Here's what Dick Morris said: The interest groups that usually speak up for the elderly, particularly AARP, are in Obama's pocket, hoping to profit from his program by becoming one of its vendors.
Just as they backed Bush's prescription drug plan because they anticipated profiting from it, so they are now helping Obama gut the medical care of their constituents.
Points 3 and 4: 3) How can an insurance company continue to operate if (per pp. 16-17 of HR3200) it can't sign up any new enrollees after bill becomes law? Its existing clients will, sooner or later, die or disappear otherwise, so existing clients will lose its service; 4) The biggest reason for unnecessary tests and procedures is defensive medicine - the fear of malpractice suits; yet Obama has NEVER mentioned capping or otherwise modifying tort (negligence) law to address the issue.
Video is right out of Obama's talking points - generalities without any specifics or support. E.g., 1) How can we continue to get same level of care if 50 million or so are added to coverage -- where do the doctors and hospitals to treat them come from? 2) In any case, even Obama states the bill will leave out about10 million from coverage - he said bill would cover about 97% of Americans - this means 3% of 300 million, or 9 million, won't be covered! Two more points require a separate post.
I too agree that AARP is certainly NOT representing me! They are drinking the cool-aid. Barry is apparently in Obama's pockets. Perhaps it is time to begin a new organization the WILL represent the Retired population rather than become a political puppet!
I am an AARP member for the next n years per a multiyear subscriptions but I will not renew. AARP has sold out to the current admnistration!!! Statisics show that US health care survivor rate is much better than Canada and England!!! The proposed health care proposal is to follow England and Canada's lead!!!
1friendlyghost, you have no idea what you're talking about. Its already illegal to drop someone because they get sick (unless they lie on an app). After HIPAA, anyone with a preexisting condition gets covered without a limitation as long as they were previously covered. AARP is wrong: Medicare doesnt work. It has $89 trillion in UNFUNDED liability WE PASS TO OUR CHILDREN and be totally bankrupt in 9 years (see the Trustees' Report). If AARP lies about this, what else arent they honest about?
Ask the hard questions....are illegal aliens going to be covered?? Are abortions going to be paid for with your tax dollars and mine? The AARP has for some reason become the largest political activist group (35 million members) in the country. They're taking political sides when their members are more than likely split almost down the middle on many of these subjects!!
AARP is promoting the administrations position, hook, line and sinker.......wonder why?! This piece is absurd.....the people talk in generalities.....if this current plan gets in place, you will see over a period of time the biggest government run mess of socialist healthcare ever.
You did not address the illegal alien question. Wonder why? They are the main reason costs are increasing...not insurance companies or doctor greed and the administration seems determined to insist.
Look, Obama is on record of favoring a single payer system but says it will take time to get there. Don't you dare take us down this slippery path!
Your statement may only be correct if the number of first generation immigrants is less than the US population consisting of US citizens. However this assumes the non-citizens are not running up tabs for free medical services through the "emergency room clinics."
You need some actual facts rather than conjecture.
Please know that illegals are admitted into emergency rooms and placed on long term regimen care such as dialysis costing the U.S. hospitals millions upon millions. Here is just one Hospital's tale of horror in the amount of money that it is costing them (testified before congress).
watch?v=bLJxmJZXgNI
One family of an illegal alien actually sued a Florida hospital. The hospital won, but spent MILLIONS on that very case. Does this make us prejudice? You damn right it does!
wmhogg....apparently you haven't heard that obama is for giving amnesty to the illegals....so they will technically be legal....now what is wrong with that picture.
We the people are against that, however obama will throw a fit if the manufactured mobs do not go along with his nazi agenda.
Well, I "have" read the bill, along with tons of others and we do know what's in it and it's nothing that is right for this country or the American people! It IS government-run healthcare, it IS rationing and it IS evil!!!!
I really don't care what your opinion is because I know that I've read it - have you?! Try looking at page 16, 425 and 430 just to name a "few" pages that have do not have the best interest of the American people at heart. Besides, Obama has made it perfectly clear that he wants "single-payer" healthcare and that IS socialized medicine by definition so these bills are just part of his agenda.

That caused private insurances to adopt that scheme and prices to sky rocket at the same pace as govt health schemes.
northpal2 2 years ago
So, you guys are against having the government run healthcare because they will ration it. But you are happy to have private companies run the system and decide which doctors/hospitals/drugs/conditions they will treat? Makes no sense to me. You can always vote the government out of office if you don't like them. But you can't touch those companies...
Totally nuts.

1rationalvoice 2 years ago
No, I wouldn't call them arrogant because they've seen firsthand what it's like to live in other countries, and appreciate what America has to offer. Americans never seem to be satisfied despite this. Also, there are millions of Americans who want healthcare reform because they own or work for small businesses who can't afford healthcare. Not to mention countless people who have died or been turned away because of so-called 'pre-existing conditions'.
spectrumdweller 2 years ago
Those who say youve read HR 3200. Would you quote location & language where you get death panel etc? I am a health policy analyst with decades of experience, and I dont see what you are ranting about. Also, to call someone a #%**& liar without any evidence says a lot more about the author than the person to whom it is being directed. Do you think anybody takes arcane comments with snippets and platitudes, punctuated with uncouth potty-mouth and gosh epithets seriously? Grow Up.

The healthcare reform being "offered" by this current administration is not one that I or millions of other Americans want and we do have the right to have our voices heard.....and the people in D.C. need to start listening. I never said our system was "perfect".

Shame on you AARP for publishing this video of lies and propaganda for the Democrats - bipartisan my eye! Just yesterday, Obama claimed that AARP endorsed his plan. That is a blatant lie. AARP does endorse reforming our nations healthcare, and improving it, BUT, they have NOT endorsed any plan, that is presently being discussed in Congress.
Bigone5555J 2 years ago 3
The president did not say AARP endorsed his plan. Furthermore no completed bill exists to endorse.
He did say the AARP would NOT be endorsing a bill that undermines Medicare. This is true. Now, had he said the the AARP would be endorsing a bill that undermines Medicare. That would be untrue.
The President also said the AARP is on board. Evident by this video supporting Health Care Reform and debunking the myths.
cbman739 2 years ago
This video only endorses Health Care Reform, Obama's plan was not mentioned. He said,We have the AARP on board because they know this is a good deal for our seniors. AARP has never said that any of the plans, presently being discussed are "a good deal for our seniors". Stating that AARP was on board "because THIS is a good deal", is a false statement. As you said yourself, "no completed bill exists", so there is no "This" in existance yet.
Bigone5555J 2 years ago 3
Sorry, but THIS does exist in the way of House bill HR3200 and the new Senate passage of the Affordable Health Choices Act just out of Committe....READ THEM!! Neither of them are a "good deal" for anyone in this country!
msrevere1 2 years ago
CBMAN, you are way off base. Obama lied through his teeth yesterday. AARP said ""While the President was correct that AARP will not endorse a health care reform bill that would reduce Medicare benefits, indications that we have endorsed any of the major health care reform bills currently under consideration in Congress are inaccurate." So even AARP understood that Obama's statement, about them being onboard" BECAUSE THIS IS A GOOD DEAL", was a lie.

Its existing clients will, sooner or later, die or disappear otherwise, so existing clients will lose its service; 4) The biggest reason for unnecessary tests and procedures is defensive medicine - the fear of malpractice suits; yet Obama has NEVER mentioned capping or otherwise modifying tort (negligence) law to address the issue.
igopstein 2 years ago 8
Video is right out of Obama's talking points - generalities without any specifics or support. E.g., 1) How can we continue to get same level of care if 50 million or so are added to coverage -- where do the doctors and hospitals to treat them come from? 2) In any case, even Obama states the bill will leave out about10 million from coverage - he said bill would cover about 97% of Americans - this means 3% of 300 million, or 9 million, won't be covered! Two more points require a separate post.
igopstein 2 years ago 7
I too agree that AARP is certainly NOT representing me! They are drinking the cool-aid. Barry is apparently in Obama's pockets. Perhaps it is time to begin a new organization the WILL represent the Retired population rather than become a political puppet!

Illegal aliens are the main reason costs are increasing? This is false; BOTH legal AND illegal immigrants cost LESS in health care than Americans.
Where the hell do you get your "information"? From the bottomless pit of your prejudices?
Mtl4us2 2 years ago
Your statement may only be correct if the number of first generation immigrants is less than the US population consisting of US citizens. However this assumes the non-citizens are not running up tabs for free medical services through the "emergency room clinics."
You need some actual facts rather than conjecture.
alanhoffberg 2 years ago 7
Mtl4us2,
Please know that illegals are admitted into emergency rooms and placed on long term regimen care such as dialysis costing the U.S. hospitals millions upon millions. Here is just one Hospital's tale of horror in the amount of money that it is costing them (testified before congress).

One family of an illegal alien actually sued a Florida hospital. The hospital won, but spent MILLIONS on that very case. Does this make us prejudice? You damn right it does!

The bill specifically denies health care to illegal aliens:
TRUTH: Pages 50-51 contain a provision stating that discrimination will not be allowed in the provision of health care services.
Nowhere does the bill state that non-US citizens will be provided free health care services.
The bill prohibits federal dollars from being used for undocumented immigrants.
