The original Troggs version is one of my favorite songs ever. This version is wet, wet, wet, and that is being kind. It mimics the original arrangement but is over killed with needless excesses. It reminds me of the kind of garbage you hear when stuck on an elevator or in crummy lounge act.
At least the REM version brings something different to the party. This version is far inferior to the original.
This is such a melodramatic version of a simple love song -- sometimes if you cannot improve on a song - DON'T DO A COVER VERSION - much like Faith Hill and her cover version of Take A Piece of My Heart by Janice Joplin -- Don't do it!
Soul-less. Not unique like the original. If you like lounge - lizard vocal stylings, you will like this better. They took a classic rock 'n' roll ballad and did it like a karaoke version. It's like prefering Sinatra's version of "Something" to the Beatles' version: retarded !
elvis1053 - I disagree. Marti indeed has a great voice but his version is showmanship and not emotion. I'm not criticizing it but in comparison to the Troggs I feel the Troggs version is more basic, and heartfelt. I truly get the feelilng the singer is in love with the woman he is singing about. Comments everyone?
lol, Thats Marty pellow!!! That tune was number 1 in britain for 16 weeks running. He done it with the biggest band in Britain in the late 80s and 90s.
Most cover arrangements are weak because they do not give you another unique "take" on a song that some group of people who like certain sounds can hear and appreciate in an unusual COVER.
This is an incredible cover. Great vocals, different phrasing delivery, that guitar speaks to an audiance that likes a more edgy sound. I do not know the promotion effort done in the USA however they should have mass released this arrangement to radio. This cover could have gotten alot of airplay. NICE
i went to see him in witches of eastwick at norwich a couple of months ago and he was soooo good it cost us £50 to get back but we didn't care because we couldnt miss him for the woooorld!!

Wet Wet Wet should have been a Metalcore band. That would have been the only way to top themselves.

Yeah, Pellow is a great singer. This is way better than The Troggs. What a great voice. Even with that Godzilla background vocalist. LOL.

Les paul is a good guitar for this song.

A full band and orchestra does not beat Wet Wet Wet, sounds excellent nontheless but its just not the same.
nick7sikkema 4 years ago
No way - Greame's Guitar technique is SO different to this particular session musician!
