Many countries still use the BCG vaccine to prevent disseminated TB in infants, and itis quite effective in developing countries in decreasing deaths of infants, unfortunatly it does not prevent pulmonary TB when the child gets older.

The BCG  vaccine has saved the lives of millions of infants in developing countries where many people have TB, and the infants are the most sussceptible to dying from this horrible disease.

Why bother? I'm not worried about diseases. I have lived in South America 4 years and've lived in Thailand for the past three, and diseases haven't really been a problem. I did get Hepatitis A (jaundice) in Chile, but that wasn't a probem either, I stayed in bed for a week and was fine again, after that. All diseases are treatable, so why try to prevent them with vaccines which often prove more dangerous than the disease?

Only since vaccines came on the market. If I had childrn again, I would take them to a measles party, to make sure they get the measles before starting school. Teenagers and adults sometimes die because complications are much more likely at these ages. Measles is generally benign in pre-schoolers.

In Germany, population 84 million, there are on average 5 measles deaths a year, yet measles vaccine uptake is by no means 100%, probably more in the vicinity of 70 - 80%. Explain that.
