ANYONE BORN IN THE 80s knows what these films are. NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING these days can compare to the raw material they had back the, now its cheaper digital lazy trash studios produce, half of that trash everyone can thank micheal GAY for, and platinum dunes with horrible remakes, that are hardly remakes at all, simply studio greed trash
I loved Return To Oz, and oddly enough it's my favorite film even over the classic film. Both films featured some of the pioneering special effects at the time but, Return to Oz appealed to my 8 year old sensibilities when the film was released.
How come the film "Journey Back to Oz", starring Liza Minnelli as Dorothy, isn't mentioned? Sure, it was an animated film, but still, it should have been pointed out.
Are you asking why it wasn't mentioned in the movie? Because I'd never heard of it until recently, and I can't go mentioning every single Oz movie/show out there.
@moviereviews4life Yes, I made this documentary back in 2007. Thank you for your support. The reason this can't be released on DVD is because I don't own the rights to all this footage, plus it's not really great production value. Eventually I just put it on the Internet and was surprised at how big of a response it has gotten. It also has an IMDb page; you should check it out and give it a rating!
@MeatballsMarlowe No problem, for a low budget documentary and one you probably got nothing, but joy from its pretty good. Some of the audio is a bit high when you are talking, but this happens a lot when you first start, so its nothing to complain about, especially since you managed to get a historian to talk with you, that's a huge A+, now if you ever did this again with a higher quality, I would just suggest adding more on other WOZ stuff and the actors who were in the film other than that A+
Don't forget The Princess Bride, Heavy Metal, Conan The Barbarian, Excalibur, Big Trouble in Little China or Willow. Other great 80's fantasy movie greats!
Sound is too poor.

My favorite 80's films are The Secret Of NIMH, The Last Unicorn, The Dark Crystal, The NeverEnding Story, The Black Cauldron, Legend, and Labyrinth.

Star Wars is essentially The Wizard of Oz in space.

@GodofFrankie which is in the documentary proper. So...shut up, me.

this doc is acclaimed? by who? first, it was jaws that ushered in the era of the blockbuster
second, the reason return to oz was an epic fail is because it was depressing...who in the hell wants to see dorothy get shock treatment?

John Fricke said the same thing in a featurette on the DVD of The Wizard Of Oz!

I agree! Most Oz films are quite forgotten. That film plus The Wiz. But I still love 6 Oz films.

The Dark Crystal definitely has an Oz-esque quality to it, it definitely was influenced by The Wizard of Oz and Tolkein.
