What the fuck man. Shacks and upscale restaurants? Heavy capitalism detected. Communism is always superior in Tropico, as their biggest needs are the ones that affect happiness most, like housing, food and money.

@arthaskiller Yeah, but communism is also bad on tropico, like in real life; no Doctor is going to stay on your island and bust his ass when you're paying him as much as a peasant (narrowing wage disparities)! LOL

You need to balance them both to have a great Tropican nation. Have a solid economy and using it for the benefit of the people (which is contrary to what a lot of Capitalists do in real life, too).

@arthaskiller Since it's only a game, I guess you could make that argument. But in reality of course, Communism fails miserably. I would say Socialism balanced with Capitalism works best for Tropicans, of course, it all must be regulated to some degree. :)

@Machiavelli1513 Instead of lowering the doctor's wages, you can, you know, increase the wages of the farmers thus removing economic disparity that way. I would argue that Communism is de facto the most ideal political system but it only works if the community can be completely self-sustained. Also, one of the reasons why Communism fails in real life is because we already have a capitalist market. Remove the economic system and voilá!

@LeaTelamon Yeah but once you raise wages across the board it drains your economy. And if you're communist the only way to sustain farmer's wages at the level of a doctor is, you guessed it, increasing the economy through Capitalism. If you remove the economic system, your little communist utopia would be isolated to small farming villages. Hardly an ideal communist society would result. Extreme poverty in Cuba is a prime example. Again, Communism is great on paper but horrid in reality.

The reason why communism again, doesn't work in reality is not because there is anything inherently faulty with the ideology, but because every country today engages in the capitalist market. The fact of you mentioning wages alone is the perfect example of this, because a self-sustained society does not need wages. That wages exist is just a sign of Marx's theory of money fetishisism.

@LeaTelamon Your latter comment was inconsistent with Communism in general and Marxism in particular. You clearly do not understand Marxist theory. Marx praised Capitalism for the progress and technology it brought to the people. If you read his Manifesto, he indicates Capitalism is necessary to bring about a Communist revolution and thus a Communist society. While you may be fond of the ideal itself, you cannot negate the importance of Capitalism for a Communist society to come to fruition.

can anyone help me out :D!? im trying to play sandbox mode but nomatter what i do i cant get my population to grow, and it wont let me select "open doors" in the imigration building. nomatter what i do i cant expand my island, i had 4 people growth to my island in 11 years, i had 59 % respect which i think is good considering i still had my starting population, good accomodation, PLEANTY of money from farming, but no workers to do anythign in the end so i quit the map and went here :D!

When you set up the game at the start, it ask you a list of things, one of them is "Imigants out" or something like that......you need to turn it to the OFF...i know cus the same thing happened to me.....you will have to start again im affraid.

Well..remember that for every building you build you pay for maintainance. Also, try following your own instincts sometimes, other than doing what they tell you right away (but well since your new to it then lol maybe it's actually a good idea to follow what they say).

you could try growing tobaco, its worth a lot.

farms have high upkeep, and depending on what type of crops they're growing, the balance might be negative for 2-5 years, also the return isn't that good too. Personaly, i use farms only to provide with food (as well as ranches), and instead focus on industry (depending on island resourses) or tourims. I reckon you talk about the first campaign, so don't rush as it tells you to, and try build some logging camps, lumber mills (if you can afford all the costs needed) and check the budget always...
