Games will look more and more realistic but when they reach the highest realism point, where will they go? Nowhere. I still like realistic looking grafics but the art style is so much more important. And the game itself is very good, you should give it a try before slamming it so hard. Not all fan-made games suck, there are plenty of gems out there if you look, and this game is one of them.
