i don't wanna comment on the meaning of the EU. But it is clear that the UK needs the EU for their ambitions on a global scale. Since WW2 the UK lost all its gold to the US. the EU is the only bridge for their continuing ambitions for control over resources worldwide. further when you wanna talk about regulations on banks there is a simple solution. let them rot, No help from the goverment. Excuse me, but it was the UK that joined the EU (leaving the EFTA, which UK itself had founded as a "competition" to the EU), not the other way around. And why did the UK join the EU? Because it saw that France and Germany were getting too cozy, so it feared to be left out, not being able to interfere. You Brits have to make up your mind on what you want...
