And, I'm so glad Gary Oldman decided to make this film. It was a magnificent and moving film made even more so by his magnificent and moving performance.
He's leaving me speechless after every single movie he's done. I mean, he's changing his voice and dialect everywhere. This is his original voice and dialect, but in Dracula? In this movie... And he's playing the piano, even though he isn't Beethoven, I can see that he's a good musician. Too bad he's dying in almost every movie he's done, and he ALWAYS leaves me crying my eyes of in my bed after watching his beyond-good- movies. Much respect and love to Gary Oldman, my favorite actor. ♡♥♡
@gunslinger7555: I believe there are several cuts from different songs, one is "Sonata Pathétique"- 2nd mvt Adagio, and one is the start of "Moonlight Sonata". Don't know the other.
Hands down, between The Professional or Leone as it is known outside of the U.S. and Immortal Beloved, Gary Oldman's performances outshine anything I've ever seen. If a man can watch Immortal Beloved and shed not one tear, he's more of a man than I am.
Biggest injustice Oldman not winning best actor and this film not winning best picture.Hollywood didn't want to promote this film for some reason.I'm a classical buff and I wasn't even aware of this films promotions.Maybe they were in some sort of disagreement with the direcctor and producers of this film and holyywood seems to have a hair up their ass about Gary Oldman. He's the best actor in the world.
@BarneyGoogle1950 Anthony Hopkins turned down the role because he didnt like the script. Obviously, he knew something, critics didnt like the movie because of inaccurate story and it got zero nominations.
Of course I'm happy Gary Oldman did it, because the world would be less without his wonderful Beethoven performance even if the movie has its flaws.
Anyway the same agent gets him roles like Unborn, Red Riding Hood, Tiptoes, Sin, Lost in Space...
u passed on Beethoven??? this is why actors are just actors! i hate these interviews cus they make them look too normal...TOO normal, somtimes too dumb...not the case...great movie...i just cant believe he just simply doesnt seem to care...audience does care!
gary oldman should have received plenty of leading parts - he is such a brilliant actor, he certainly can carry a movie - he is one of the most intense actors ever
He is without a doubt one of the Greatest Actors of this Generation. Easily over looked for the most part. I would rather watch him in any movie over these so-called A-List actors any day. Gary you are the Best in my book.
He easily deserved an Oscar for any of the roles he has done. Of course the Academy Awards and Oscars are judged buy idiots if you ask me. They always pick the actors who are the "IT" factor. Gary Oldman isn't your father's actor he is human and that is why he does what he does so well. He could do stage work and make you believe every thing he says. He wouldn't even need props. Greatest Actor of all time in my opinion.
Anyone noticed that there was a little metaphore in the movie Leon, where he was about to gun-down Matilda's dad in the apartment, and begins talking to the dad? He starts to pretend to play piano on the fire mantle as if he were Beethoven. Then this movie comes out afterwards! Awsome!
No doubt Gary Oldman deserved not only the nomination but THE OSCAR to the best actor for this master piece.
He is just so involved with the character that whenever we wish to imagine how Beethoven really was, we must only watch this amazing film, and thats it.
Gary Oldman, one the best actors alive. He must have won an oscar for this movie and for Dracula. Thats my opinion.
I agree, I like alot of actors and movies but he is by far my favorite. I can hardly imagine why this man is not noticed more. He BECAME BEETHOVEN. He is able to convey emotion like none other that I have seen. A Gary Oldman fan from North Little Rock, Arkansas
For years I always admired Gary for his brilliant acting but never saw the charisma until toward the end of this movie where he played an old Beethoven on his deathbed. The acting was superb and I suddenly sat up and took notice. Then, I watched the interviews in the "features" (which is shown here) and I've never been the same since! Wow! Too cool for words!!!
i think it's better than he be known as the biopic kid then the villain actor...at least playing famous people he gets to show his range...yay for beethoven!
Gary Oldman is gorgeous. I love him.
