Such fond memories of the original George of the Jungle! I remember watching the show as a little boy back in the early 70's along with Rocky & Bullwinkle. There's just something magical about the old school, hand drawn animations.. Classics that stand the test of time!
Does anyone understand why Ursula divided herself into two in this intro? And in that shortened version used to introduce the George segment of the show?
@luiz4200 A running gag is that George has apparently hit so many trees he thinks his wife Ursula has a twin sister, Bella (or Fella, as I have also seen it -- check Wikipedia, they'll know). He calls Ursula "Bella" intermittently, and is puzzled that they are never seen together. She corrects him repeatedly, but it doesn't take. IIRC, this gag was introduced in an early episode as a plot device to get George into/out of some zany situation, and then continued with.
@soiramio3000 , you're wrong. This is the original George. This was probably the best Saturday morning cartoon of the late 60s-early 70s. When I was in 2nd grade in 1971, this was must-see TV.
@mmg816 Thanks to the genius of Jay Ward who also brought us: Rocky & Bullwinkle, Dudley Do Right, Fractured Fairy Tales, Peabody's Improbable History and Hoppity Hooper.
I'm 47 and I remember this so foundly. I always cracked up watching this opening every time they sang "watch out for that tree" then slam he swung iinto it. LOL. just a little piece of trivia. Jay Ward was responsible for the making of this cartoon as well as many others such as Super Chicken, Rocky and Bullwinkle, and Underdog.
I remember watching this every morning on Captain Kangaroo as I ate breakfast waiting for the Bill Cosby picture pages segment to come on and later watching it on Rocky and Bullwinkle show. The remake of this show does not even come close to this . However the Brendan Fraser version is the only remake of this that even came close to being just as good as the original!
As far as the 'new' George, which is mercifully OVER & DONE WITH, you have Tiffany Ward to thank for allowing that crap to happen. Jay Ward's daughter must've neede the money BAD. Like when Tex Avery's daughter sold the rights to his name for a show featuring a VERY lame character named...well....
This is George Of The Jungle. I'm not sure what to call the new version on CN except a disgrace. Despite the new one's title it isn't George Of The Jungle.
@Immortal1000 You're absolutely right. When are they going ot learn to keep hands off the classics. Rosie O'Donnel and the big guy from Roseanne are not Fred and Wilma, The live action Boris and Natasha was eye damagingly painful, I could go on but why? Hey, everybody in Hollywood and the CartoonNetwork HANDS OFF THE CLASSICS! MAKE UP YOUR OWN STUFF FER PETE'S SAKE!!
@PriceRight89 I rember when this was on about 22 tears ago cause I used to watch it in the mornings before I headed of to school and it was at that time on MTV
The New George of the Jungle's freakin' horrible. But, let me tell ya, the worst, and I mean the WORST episode out there would be the episodes with the bananaquads! That episode completely turned off my interest in that GotJ! THIS is the George I grew up with! (Along with the Georg of the Jungle movie)
george of the jungle, he-man, G.I. Joe and transformers, new cartoons can't compete with those from my childhood. Hell even the simpsons was from my childhood.
I think the Simpsons was probably the first animated Television program of any kind that uses all kinds of profanity. That seemed more like
a TV Series that was like a sitcom such as King
of The Hill. Most of these type of shows aren't for kids really.Look at how they use cusswords so much like South Park it is called. Some of this trash i am surprised they allow it on TV even though they allow more then they did years ago it still is a little obscene.
The Tookie-Tookie bird is scared silly about George about to crash into his tree, as is that other bird (probably a pelican), that they both shake the tree in terror. They are even still shaking when George instead crashes into another tree.

When those drums start off, you can feel the energy!!
My niece and nephews love this song, even though they've never seen an original episode.
A group named Dynamix also made a version of this song in the late eighties. Talk about some drums bangin'...
