Larry is asking all these questions about society and youth psychology... to a bunch of celebrities. I wish he was asking them questions about their younger years and their personal experience with bullying, and invite experts to the show to address the psychological and sociological questions. I agree. Sadly, studies show that America tends to tune out once the celebrities leave. This is especially true of general viewers who have no specific attachment to the topic. It's why celebrities are used in telethons to explain diseases and world hunger. Educators can only hope that viewers will delve deeper on their own.

@Jvilander Where I live, there are a lot of gay kids who cut class and get charged with truancy and have to appear before a magistrate judge. Even the judges have said they don't blame the students for cutting class and have encouraged it because of the danger at schools. These students have plans of taking a GED course to make up for cutting class. That is messed up! Why do people have to go out of their way to bully? It must be really hard being a teacher in these times.

Bravo. This was part of my graduate work. Many gay kids grow up somewhat effeminate, and they find themselves ostracized by straights and gays, who find them embarrassing. One study found that most gay boys actually had effeminate mannerisms, but blocked it from their memories as adults (because of internalized homophobia). Yet their moms saw it.

The number of suicides recently is misleading. Teen suicides are common and everyday in a statistical sense. If you do not know or are unwilling to state to the authorities that your child is Queer then it isn't counted as a 'gay suicide'.

The alarm bells have been raging for decades. And until our cultures no longer need someone to be on their knees then this type of display will continue.

Also because there's a lot politically going on against gays that are reinforcing the ideas that allow gay kids to be bullied. Obviously all bullying should stop. It's violent and should not be allowed to grow the way it has. But you can't deny that the problem with gay bullying has escalated in the extreme. But, of course, it still comes to this: five children are dead. Something must be done.

And they're saying LGBT youth are 4x as likely to commit suicide...that's serious, and should not go unmentioned!! <3 <3

I was very much a nerd growing up, but I was made fun of and beat up regularly for being a "fag," not for my nerdiness.

@MYGIRLMicahMicah This is about gay bullying because gay youths are 4 times as likely to attempt suicide as their straight counterparts, and because, even to this vary day, mainstream society STILL feels vindicated in denying gays full equality. Churches will not stand up and explicitly encourage their followers to support discrimination against heavy people or nerds...but they and their political allies STILL work to deny gay people true equality! Maybe think before you post next time?

Until the repeal of DOMA and DADT, and everyone has equal opportunity to get married the LGBT community will continue to be marginalized. Responsibility starts at home, extends to the community, and then to authority figures.
