If I'm not mistaken, Burton was 5th seed this day and started out with a pair of 279's and a 250 something for the first 800 bowled on National TV in his first 3 games before this one......Could I be corrected???
@SMITHnWESSON44m Nope, sorry. As the ABC production team brought up in Part 1 of this match, Bo shot 195, 257 and 204 in his other three matches. Jim Stefanich also bowled an 815 on TV in 1975, which was the record before Bob Learn, Jr.
I think the shot clock started in the mid 1990's, or it might just have been with the new owners is 2001. It's 25 seconds, I believe the first violation is $100 and each additional one is $1000.
Ernie's shot in the 8th frame took 55 seconds. He would have had to give the whole check back in fines.
It was definitely before the new owners... I would estimate it started in the late 1980s.
If you watch the clip with John Handegard's first senior title, they mention that it was a 5-pin penalty for exceeding 25 seconds. So, the cash fine came later.
They have put the shot clock rule in sometime in the late 80's. The five pin penalty NYDanno85 talks about was only implemented on the senior tour up until 1993 when there were dramatic increases in the senior tour prize fund.
Schlegals one good day....................

@SMITHnWESSON44m I believe Bo set that record in St. Louis, in the 1984 Rolaids Open.

Ernie sure got lucky on the shot at 5:55 straight through the headpin and still got a strike not in the pocket.
