I don't see why a young man in his 20's needs so many credit cards. Even if it doesn't hurt his credit score, which it may or may not, ...what is the point of having so many?

I am putting my two {highly academically achieving) sons through a "prestige" university, and a total cost of nearly $250,000, and all of it does not amount to the importance of SUZE ORMAN's books, which I have also sent to my children as part of their education. I wish she (OR SOMEBODY) had been around when I was 20.
It may not hurt your fico score, but don't you think lenders would raise an eyebrow and wonder if this person with so may cards is a potential financial time-bomb?

no it doesnt hurt your fico score, as long as there is isnt debt or a lot of debt on them
