The question still remains to be answered as to why the beard is 'wajib'? Why is it required? I am quite sure that Allah would not require something of us without a good reason- otherwise the commandment would be merely arbitrary. So, what is the good reason? Where does it said in the sunnah that the comandment of the Prophet pbuh is to be taken as an optional??? by saying the religion is not compulsory who are u referring to a person who is a muslim or a non muslim??? Once u are a muslim do what made u to be a muslim and the Sunnah ofthe belove Prophet pbuh is NOT DIFFICULT, u have insulted the sunnah of our beloved Prophet pbuh. May Allah guide you & forgive you

Muslim must. Muslim mustn't. What do YOU think Mr Muslim man? Why not think about it and do what YOU think is best for YOU? Far easier to let the Koran tell you what to do. Damn, if you're gonna look in a book for guidance on whether to wear a beard or not what are you gonna do when it comes to something really important? oh I forgot, Islamic ideology has guidelines for everything, that's why it's so popular with the weak-minded: much easier than thinking for yourself.

the beard is part of being human.. in my religion Sikhism a person has to not cut any hair beard or hair because its gods creation how can u love god if you don;t love his creation. the beard is part of every religion Jews Christians Muslim and Sikhs.

@metal9023 in my eyes Christians Muslims and Sikhs or Jews are all the same..in sikhism it says its not what religion you belong to but if you believe in god and become a pure in that religion and is a good person.there might be different paths but the destiny is the same..beard and hair should not be cut because if god wanted his creation to look like that he would have made it that way..why does the hair if you cut it grows back thicker and longer because you body is tryin defend its self.

Allah prohibits things as He has always done, through His messengers and prophets, Allah does not reveal Himself to His slaves to give them the law. Allah chooses whom He wills to be the deliverer of the commands of Allah. The messenger kept a beard, then so shall the muslims.

@2umone The Hadith is ridden in superstition, that which Allah has said is LIES (see 7:185). Allah spoke to the people of the time: follow what Allah revealed, and follow the messenger. I.e.: follow Gods law, but also follow Muhammad, you cannot just stray off and not help Muhammad at all. The key to Allah is the QURAN, you can find history about Muhammad in the SEERA, not the PERSIAN BUKHARI CULT LEADER

@2umone I never said Allah lied. He stated superstitions are lies:
5:103: "It was not Allah who instituted (superstitions like those of) a slit-ear she- camel, or a she-camel let loose for free pasture, or idol sacrifices for twin-births in animals, or stallion-camels freed from work: It is blasphemers who invent a lie against Allah. but most of them lack wisdom."

@DaYungGuy - Akhi, im not understanding where this debate is going. I agree, as muslims we dont believe in such things as superstitions or things like luck.
but the main thing is, the hadith about the beard and the chain of narrators it was passed down, i still dont get what you have against the narrators of hadeeth.
forgive me for my lack of understanding, but akhi, im not following what point your trying to make. Its one of those days, so your just going to have to spell it out akh, sorry.

We all knows how long was prophet beard...he had beard till chest and he never trim and mostly salafi brothers have that long.beard..sufi brothers always find way around to play with deen by excuse of imam and try to make things easy and thr short beards lik hamza yusuf is perfect example of it

haha akhi, ur last comment is really hilarious hehe.. my beard is as short as urs, cos i always trim it. anyways what i do recall studyin last time in regardin the subject of wether it is wajib or not keeping beard is a matter of khilafiyah, not ijma'. but it is definitely sunnah of nabi s.a.w. Allah a'lam.
