The music industry has changed. You can build a your own fanbase and make more money than getting a record deal. You can make like 70 cents per single sale and digital is the way to go. Also, you can go international on the internet, whereas with a record company it might take years before your song get released.
I'm promotiong my daughter as of 8/10. She's worked her tail off for 8 years and now she's ready. She's done a few covers and now she's professionally recorded her own song she wrote and produced and its hot. Ashlee Littlejohn is the real deal.
@ThePhoenixcall youtube and the internet has so much info that wasn't availble years past, that there is no excuse. how bad do you want it. check out DROPSQUAD ENTERTAINMENT. I think that is the best vehicle ever, and it's in the beginning stages. it will benefit beyond belief.
@ThePhoenixcall The 7 P's(price, product, promo, place, package, process, people) if u have a product, offer it,promo, get it out there(reverbnation, cdbaby)network, explain what u want and what u can offer. consistence, purpose, faith. and do it for the love, if it doesn't happen there's no lost. make weaknesses your strengths. if they say your music puts them to sleep. find people who promote sleep. bed manufactur commercial. etc., and if you want more, than practice, learn, ask questions.
@ThePhoenixcall thanks for the oppurtunity, etc. the main reason a record deal is wanted is for most people...fame. not even the money as u would think. Thats coming from my lawyer, who works with people like Oprah winfrey, etc. so the best thing record co.s can offer is exposure. you can get that from youtube,facebook,twitter.myspace.etc. work all for what they are worth.
@ThePhoenixcall well, i think u answered your own question... don't put the cart b4 the horse saying. great music is the 1st step, but not just great but somethin' that represents him and make music for the listeners always. music is universal, just find his market and attack it. start locally, use the net most def. as for smarts. 907% business/3% music
@ThePhoenixcall Just some advice... sign up with ascap or sesac, etc. record a demo, network, find a manager that can get his music heard. do not pay upfront, he makes commision. thats a good way. if no income no commission. always copyright music. put music on reverbnation, cdbaby, etc. most important register as a business, etc. do showcases, anyway to expose. network=networth
@macijoshuasaina i can. be true to yourself. brainstorm on issues, concepts. connect it all. then format as a rap. once you have content, it becomes easy.
During the late 1970s, Hip-hop emerged in the streets of New York City, which would remain the forefront of the genre throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. As the 1980s drew to a close, however, several west coast based acts such as Ice-T, MC Hammer and N.W.A began garnering attention
I don't really think there is much advice you can give with this topic, I've seen hugely talented acts never get anywhere...
One thing I'll personally suggest to addition to what this dude said would be don't just play gigs/do shows in your area, find a way to break out and hit a larger audience.
After all that guy that could help you get big ain't gonna find you/hear of you without you being everywhere.
Oh and if you ain't got talent...Practice, talent is rarely born with you.
That was only obvious information. No facts or details. Let completely ignore music software, and booking shows, tabbing out the music so it's set in stone(so that everyone is playing the right parts and aren't getting in fights over what to do next.)
wtf is wrong with u man.. this guy!! if your a rapper your a dumbass!! if your a producer dont teach people to rap
