It might help to first develop a working definition of "demon" which doesn't require the supernatural. For example, if one is caught up in a serious self-contradiction such as thinking one is a worthless slut due to getting slut shamed, it makes sense this could function as a "demonic" force to create such things as suicide. Attention put on exorcism could acknowledge said demon as other than oneself & affirm the person as of value and thus there goes said demon & the urge to off oneself.
