  • Bellissimo modello!!La base aerea di Brindisi è a pochi chilometri da casa mia!!

    Grazie!!

    Vincenzo dall'Italia.

  • Stunning work!Just superb))

  • @Flanker0804 Thank you, glad you liked her! :)

  • I don't understand yet what to do to paint the camouflage pattern, I'm confused about the masking technique, I can't figure out how to apply the mask layers properly and it's very frustrating because I've got a Revell Seafifre Mk I B 1:32 but I can't start building it because I don't want to spoil it with a lousy painting :(

  • @GekkoKamen Well, the method I used was to first spray the plane with, in this case, the dark sea grey colour. The, I rolled out a length of Blu-Tak and shaped it to the camo pattern, being careful to make a smooth contact line with the surface. Depending on the spray pattern of your airbrush, you may choose to fully mask out the grey areas with tape, masking solution etc. Then just spray the 2nd colour within the lines. This method gives a softer line between the colours. Good luck!

  • The model is very good but the music is atrocious. C -

  • @PJ3love Thank you, but what's wrong with the music? What would you suggest instead?

  • @MakingModelsAgain something either more contemporary or more emotive - you have just built a very good (overly expensive in my view) rendtion of a spitfire. Tinny electro rubbish music is not a good representation of what the Spitfire represented especially to those that flew them

  • @PJ3love Fair comment I suppose! :) On an older video on another channel where I was telling everyone about this channel, I used the, perhaps cliched, music from The Battle Of Britain, but lately, I've been using music from Jamendo dot com to get around YT's copyright nonsense, and choosing music that has a beat and rhythm I can edit to and show the build effectively. Each to their own I guess. Glad you like the kit though! :)

  • @MakingModelsAgain ah, I didnt know about copyright issues. Electrorubbish has Jamendo dot com to thank for keeping it in circulation. If not for the music the kit would be an A - (the kit price is extortionate - why on earth havent you built the HE 111 1/32 scale or the JU 88 1/32? - ti leaves all these single seat planes behind in terms of detail and a cockpit with unbelievable detail)

  • Really nice work. I borrow some of the techniques you physical modelers use for my 3D work, so I always appreciate the attention to detail here.

  • very nice

  • masterpiece

  • awesome job!

  • Wow, museum quality here, great work!! Cheers

  • great job bud, haven't checked all the comments' so could you tell me what mig pigment you used for the panel lines!!

  • Awesome build,5STARS CHEERS!

  • hi superb model :)

  • Lovely job..

  • That is fantastic!!

  • Great work. Love the hobby myself and can appreciate your efforts.

  • fantastic, but why dont i believe this is your first model after 30 years?

  • @a24218361 Hehe, well technically it was the first kit in 30 years, but during it's construction, I took time away from it to build the P-47 with all the aftermarket, the Typhoon and the little Japanese plane, as practice and to acquaint myself with today's kits and things like resin and photo etch.

  • @MakingModelsAgain

Wow also have statrted making models again after many years away. Seems there is sooooooooo much to learn and detail to pay to acheive a good model. Your video is a great insperation to do it right. Thanks

  • @Johnjljc Thanks John. I was amazed by how much the hobby had changed: resin, photoetch, vacform....etc. This model was very much a learning experience. Heck, the one I'm working on now is as much an education as anything - I'm making my own vacformed canopies to replace the kit's chunky original - and in 1/144 no less!!! Hope you're going to post your build videos on YT!?!?

  • @MakingModelsAgain Hello again, just finished my Revell Messerschmitt Bf 109 f have it up on U tube Looks pretty good but there are many things I would do differently on the next model. here is the address Revell Messerschmitt Bf 109 f 1: 32 scale. no after market stuff mainly due to not knowing where to buy items..

By the way Happy New Year

  • nice

  • Perfect! Going to my favorites.

  • First up, thank you for your so very kind words!

The engine was painted afterwards, otherwise, I've a tendency to get glue right where I don't want to and end up having to paint the damn thing again. More often than not now, I paint details in situ, although I'm not much a better painter than I am a gluer and frequently have to repaint my overlap and again, quite often have to go back and paint the overlap's overlap! Thankfully, my skills are improving and am having to do that less, these days!

  • What a truly awesome job you've done! The detail is outstanding and the weathering is absolutely spot on!

I have a question though. When you assembled the engine, were the parts initially painted and then glued together? Because when i paint individual parts, i worry about even a tiny application of glue would spoil the paint job.

Otherwise, this is one of the best jobs i've seen on the net!

  • @MakingModelsAgain Where did you get the MIG pigments from?because I have got the airfix spit to make

  • @thehjupo I usually get my stuff online, but if you check out any model shows where you live, traders at those will probably have MIG stuff. 'Tis the season for those too! Also bigger model shops or places that do war gaming stuff might also have them.

  • Amazing work! The engine detail is mind blowing .... everything! Congrats! Great job! All the best to you!

  • @slowstrummer Thank you! :) I have to say, Tamiya could release that engine as a stand alone kit and you'd think it a great kit! I enjoyed 'plumbing' it immensity. Not sure if it's 100% accurate in places, but I was happy with the overall effect! Again, thanks for your kind words! :)

  • im seriously not gonna lie, im being honest, out of the thousands of the videos of models ive seen THIS one IS THEE best. you should be proud, this is amazing :)

  • @awesomenoob6281 Well, what can I say to a comment like that but thank you very much! I think the little break away from the kit did me (and the final result) the world of good as I learned so much in between, a bit like Luke going off to Dagobah to learn the ways of the Force, so was it with me and my modelling skills. Although I didn't have to do it in a swamp! Once again, thank you for your most gracious comment! :)

  • @MakingModelsAgain no sir, thank YOU.

  • This is amazing! I love this hobby but want to work on it a lot more. I'll save up some money to progress and hopefully make it to this model some day D:

  • @P47ThunderboltJug Well, if you do, I can assure you, you will not be disappointed with this kit. It is superb in every respect. The engine alone is a kit in itself - there's so many parts to it! Good luck and maybe we'll see a video of your Spitfire some day!

  • Jus finished making one of these and yours looks brilliant

  • @bobthejo1 It's a great kit, isn't it? Had so much fun putting it together due to the fact it was so well engineered. You should make a video and put yours on here too!

  • Wow nice! That weathering /shading technique is definately worth a try thanks for posting. That engine just rocks excellent detail!!!!! I'm a fan :)

  • @ialarmu Tamiya could sell the engine as a stand alone kit me thinks - it's so well detailed! The weathering is good if you make a mess first time as the satin varnish will allow you to simply wash off the pigment and start again!

  • great job, nice model:)

  • @AircraftModelling Thank you! :)

  • that looks amazing...

  • @angryace13 Thanks! Took a while, but got there in the end! :)

  • Another awesome build.. :) As I said in another earlier video of yours, the editing of your videos is very good. I have to try that Satin panel line weathering technique sometime soon, maybe in my Lancaster Bomber. but, I have to say, the end result of this model is very, very good.. :) I like the engine and cockpit detail.

  • Subscribed nice painting good idea how hard was it? I have made it in 1:48 and it was ok yours is a lot better

  • @thehjupo Thanks! Actually, although there may be over 350 parts in this kit, the fit of those parts is exemplary and therefore make the kit a lot easier than you might expect. It's the easiest thing to use the pigments that way - just brush on, brush off! Huh, sounding like Mr Myagi!!

  • great weathering tip and you have just made me adore this kit even more :D

  • @SimpleModels Thanks! I think every modeller should make this kit at least once!

  • what paints do you use then?

  • @KO19966 Tamiya and Mr Hobby Colour acrylics as well as some Humbrol enamels

  • fantastic mate,real art :)

  • @strarscreamtheking Appreciate that, thank you! :)

  • Well I'm torn. Either an Italeri 1:48 Apache (never built a heli before) or a 1:32 Revel Gruman Martlet. What do you think???

  • @dondeyout1 Martlet, definitely! Given your 1/72 and 1/48 builds, I'd love to see what you do with a larger scale! Although, the Apache sounds good too! Nah, the Martlet! :)

  • @MakingModelsAgain Welcome to my world! Your sentence there is what my mind has been doing the last couple of days!

  • Second comment of the day.. Looks like super Supermarine to me!! Having already admired this on the Brutemuddlers forum, I knew the end result, but it was still breathtaking.. Looks like I will have to invest in some MIG pigs, then.. if they really are as easy as 1, 2, 4.. This is a masterpiece and definetely competition worthy.. You should give it a go, you're well in class with some of the best modellers I have seen in shows and the like.. A spiffing Spitfire, a true beauty!! :) Well done...

  • @BasicModelling Coming from the man who got me (re)started, that means a lot!

I use MIG's Dark Mud and Black Smoke mixed in a little pudding glass (Tesco's creme brulee jars are perfect!) and just keep that handy as I build! The satin finish just seems to retain just enough pigment to achieve the desired effect. I also brushed it over with some of their Europe Dust as well, but I think that's better on armour. I can't preshade worth a damn as I always end up just covering it totally! :

  • Awesome reuslt! :) I like it!

  • @tankman13p66 Glad to hear you like it! Thank you! :)

  • amazing work my friend :) though i wish you actually showed how you do things but that's a minor complaint ;)))

  • @ModelloursWorkshop Thanks and , complaint noted! ;) :)

  • Brilliant build, I am considering the Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire as well, and now your video is a sign to go for it :)

  • @yancheelaa Go for it and when you're done, post a video and let's see it! They have three 1/32 Spits in their range now, so which one will you go for...? :)

  • @MakingModelsAgain I think I will go for the same one as you did (Mark IXc), this model is just capturing my immagination more and more...

  • @yancheelaa Well you'll be hard pressed to find a better engineered kit than this. The fit of the parts was exemplary and the attention to detail utterly remarkable - the engine alone could constitute a kit by itself - and a complex one at that! All the best and looking forward to seeing the results!

  • @MakingModelsAgain I am working now on Revell 1/32 Arado with some Eduard PE aftermarket stuff, but I think this will be the next one... I love the engineering. Just heard that you can reatach the panels, that they are magnetic, etc. this is tamiya stuff, and no wonder they are leaders...

  • Stunning !

  • @primativemodelling Why, thank you kind sir! :)

  • She is a beauty - well worth all the effort you put in, and as for time - who was clock watching.... you got her there in the end. Splendid :-)

  • @taft788 Well, they say the best of things take time and whilst she may not be the best of things, I gave it my best shot and am more than happy with the result, although I do keep picking faults with it! :)

  • Fantastic stuff. That Merlin looks incredible! Wish i was brave enough to have a go at the weathering like that. I always lose my bottle once its been on for a couple of minutes!

Also RE your comment about other people's remarks making it worthwhile. I couldn't agree more. I think people look at these models and assume it was just a case of gluing the bits together and shazam!! Other modellers can truly appreciate the effort and skill that has gone into a build like this which in turn validat

  • @dondeyout1 Your humble servant, sir! Kind words indeed!

The thing with weathering is that it can make or break a project and in fact, it was my first attempt at weathering, rather than my airbrushing that really caused the loss of heart. But time heals all wounds and here I am, looking at the stash for another build to compliment the one's on the bench. Probably going for the Academy 1/48 La-7 Lavochkin with a CMK resin cockpit. Maybe.....

Anyway, looking forward to your next build, too!

  • I said it on britmodeller, and I'll say it again here - wow! she's a beauty :)

  • @bruce3371 And for that, I thank you twice! ;)

  • That is amazing - especially all the twiddly widdly things and the spinny bits.

  • @MrRandomWritings I do believe that is the correct technical parlance for WWII RAF aircraft's doo-dahs.

  • @MakingModelsAgain Ah sorry that was a momentary lapse - I have been fine all the rest of the doo dah day

  • Superb!

  • @CaptKrone99 Thank you very much! :)

  • Have put this in my favs.. and will watch it properly tomorrow!! Now I'm off to work, have to leave early as I have to walk, my bicycle broke a while ago.. On top of that I'm facing possible redundancy in a months time, the company has lost a major customer and needs to cut costs.. nobody is safe!! :( Still, if so I will have more time to build models.. :) Resumed work on the Bren Carrier this evening, quite enjoyed doing the figures after all.. :)

  • @BasicModelling Bren Carrier? Did he win Pop Idol?

  • @BasicModelling Well, I had a go at painting the Johnnie Johnson figure that came with the kit, but, as usual, my figures always end up looking like the walking dead, although his boots looked ok!

:/ I hope your company cuts its cost elsewhere and not your job even if that does mean some serious modelling time, which, granted, is always good for the rest of us to see more of your kits! ;)

  • @MakingModelsAgain Well, I found that a good coat of 'Skull White' primer did half the job on the figures, as they somehow seemed to have got automatic low- and highlights.. :) :) Now I will watch the video properly, do a separate comment about the model, and then get some sleep.. Have had to do some work in the garden this morning, we're having turf laid on Friday, so Toby can go out more freely.. He kept eating the gravel.. :P

  • That is gorgeous work. I love the way the model is displayed. The weathering and washes worked brilliantley. Youve done a love job on the build vid. Nicely put together with excellent clear photos. All round a very well done. Looking forward to seeing the next build.

  • @chancerNW Thank you so much for your kind words - makes all the effort worthwhile when others truly appreciate it!

In contrast, I'm currently working on a couple of little 1/144s at the moment - a P-51D Mustang and the Aichi B7A2 with about 20 parts in total - i.e. both planes!

  • seriously, this is the best aircraft model i have seen in my entire life ( and i have seen a lot of them!). epic work on this spit, you are simply the best :)

just one question: do you mix the black mig pigments with pigment-fixer or how do you apply it? or do you just scatter the black mig pigment powder without any pigment fixer? this method looks fantastic and i will use it on my Bf110 from dragon in 1/32 scale i bought today.

  • @888HamilkarBarkas888 You mean to say that this model is better than any of mine?? HRRRRRMPF!! :) :)

  • @BasicModelling sorry for this lese-majesty rob :)

  • @888HamilkarBarkas888 Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.. I know when I see a good model.. which sadly isn't too often when I look at my own!! But I'm still having fun.. I may try and enter my Stuka in the IPMS Ipswich East Anglian Model Competition next month, or whenever it is... That and a couple of my armour models!! :)

  • @888HamilkarBarkas888 Coming from your good self, sir, those are indeed, words of high praise, given that your last tank actually looked more like tank than the tank probably did! Again, thanks for the kind words! :)

I mix MIG's Dark Mud and Black Smoke together. I like the satin finish. Matt is too rough and holds too much pigment and of course, gloss doesn't hold any! The big, soft brush also distributes the pigment over the rest of the airframe, weathering that too. Then more satin to fix it!

  • super....

  • @samohtaloa Thank you! :)
