same thing happens to my car in winter time cause i too dont drive it much like yours sitting for days or a week at a time. so what works good is in the winter time if you bring the battery inside keep it on charge by the vent when the heats on when not using the car for a while, then hook it up when you need to go out it works well
Is that a convertible (in Mich)? What did you ever do to get it started? It's tough on any car when it's that cold out and it's an old car. Personally... i don't know how you can live in such a cold climate!
What year is your car? I've never had to start a car in -10F but my car didn't sound too happy about starting sitting in the cold in about 0F. Still winter's beautiful and all but cars don't like it.
but still would be cool to race u in my corvette but you might win if i raced you in my Toyota prius..so wanna try? if so send me privete message here where u live so we can race..
yes watched it all the way threw and quite clearly watched the revs climb while running for a few secs but you seemed to let your foot of the accelerator expecting it to idle allready.
heh my corvette is cool, alot better then your car dude, yours isn't a 2007 mine is and also my Toyota Prius is cooler. so don't go telling me its not cool again...i challenge you to a RACE.
LOL. I was gonna say, -10 during the day and -40 wind chills at night will kill a car by themself (we've had that in New England before), then of course when there's less than a 1/4 tank in the car... =D
You have to park your car on the street where there is no electricity outlet? Anyway we had -30c last night and the forecast says the next night is going to be colder...
Do you still have your convertible? i LOVE those old BMW convertibles.

That sucked! I thought it would have started after recharging the battery! That is why I do indeed live in sunny Southern California!

my car is sitting outside and i can start it after 2 weeks un-touched and it will start but will have a hard time if you want a proof just ask.
otterlakerules 3 years ago
Hey, good for you. Is your car also 19 years old, with 200,000 miles? Does it also stay below zero for most of those two un-touched weeks?
chicanerii 3 years ago
It's actually 16 years old. It's a 1993 civic and it have 322000km on it. I'm sorry if I sound a lil cocky earlier sorry!

It's a convertible, in Minnesota. I got it started by bringing the battery inside and charging it, as the video shows.
I've since moved to Los Angeles, so... problem solved.
chicanerii 3 years ago
Give it some more gas!
ScarfaceVLD 3 years ago
That's not good. Something is wrong with it if it can't start in -4 degrees.
ncarter124 3 years ago
It will always start when it's -9, as long as I don't let it sit for 9 days. The long time left sitting was what killed the battery.
chicanerii 3 years ago
Gotcha.
ncarter124 3 years ago
helps if you actualy keep the revs up once you start it when its that cold. no wonder it kept stalling haha
cybermods 4 years ago
Keep the revs up? How do you "keep the revs up" before it gets started? Did you even watch the video before you commented?

The stereo is an Alpine unit, about 2 years old.
chicanerii 4 years ago
is that a pioneer stereo? we had one like that in my dads old saab. had to put it in the junkyard, blown motor

According to my F to C converter, -4F = -20C.
chicanerii 4 years ago
How does -20C = -4F? Surely that should be the other way round?

Damn - take of that hat - daaaah.

Chicanerii, you're very tactful (and tolerant) and I'm not referring to the car trouble...

Setka1982 4 years ago
It's an '89 BMW 325i. It starts fine in the coldest weather if I run it every day - I only get in trouble when I leave it sit for more than 3 days.

Your Corvet is not cool. It might be cool if it had another T and E.
chicanerii 4 years ago
Cool car but not as cool as my new 2007 Chevy Corvet. what year is your BMW? can i see more of it starting up and driving around?
Setka1982 4 years ago
Try plugging in the car!

We just had -30C and my Mercedes CLK240 started like under a palm tree! =) Without heating, Finland rocks!

Nah, gas gauge has never worked. Car started right up the next day after charging the battery overnight.
chicanerii 5 years ago
Wow. I need to pay more attention. :-P I'm sure that gas gauge on the left being way past the E had something to do with this as well. =)
