  • john mayer is an awesome guitarist singer and song writer but really needs to shut his mouth.

  • 5 deaf people gave this a thumbs down

  • Yeah, Botti!!

  • He has no taste in guitars.

  • @bubsadoozy its mostly about sound, and how the fuck do you know about his particular guitar selection for this song ?

  • @bubsadoozy hahaha ok.....

  • @bubsadoozy you obviously have no idea about john mayer then

  • @MarcusII100 Fenders and Gibsons seems to be the gist of it.

  • @bubsadoozy Martin, Duesenberg Starplayer, PRS, Novax..plus 3 fender signatures and a martin signature..

  • @bubsadoozy hahaha he's playing a vintage Gibson L-5.... probably the classiest Jazz guitar Gibson ever made..

  • @bubsadoozy Hush chile.

  • It's just amazing how people play in this century on instruments which were built around 60 years back!

  • whaT GUITAR IS THAT?

  • @pbmusic100 Gibson L5

  • @KCdrummer94 oh I thought he was sponsored by fender. However this guitar is mor appropriate seeing how hollow body guitars are better for that jazzy blues sound.

  • @lastofmykind8 that my friend is not your average gibson, that is a Gibson L5.

  • @deejack1414 oh, excuse me. haha x)

  • is that a Gibson?? i thought john only used fender?

  • @lastofmykind8 most of his electric guitars are fender, but his acoustic guitars, or in this cause, a hollowbody electric, are mostly gibson or martin

  • this awesome.. john mayer just cant sing jazz really..

  • John Mayer playing jazz! Or, well... John Mayer playing blues licks over jazz... on a a jazz guitar... Yeah, that's as close as we're getting.

  • It's a shame how rare fantastic music like this is in the current music industry. I could listen to just this song all day. Almost unrealistic amount of talent on that stage.

  • @Ben80997 try this.

    /watch?v=WVFe-C--dfo

  • look at the black guy at 2:40 - that's eargasm right there

  • amazing. One of the best voices and in my opinion the best guitar player of his time

  • that's pretty cool that he's only playing through that Boss tuner. the tone on that gibson is incredible.

  • im lovin the trumpet in this. i can play a lil bit but i couldnt imagine playin like that. john mayer awesome as usual

  • saw chris at the clearwatwer jazz fest a few years ago so talented great trumpet

  • It just goes to show that America still cares about music. Even the Rappers know their roots, like, Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett etc etc These days, in England, Jules Holland is no longer and there's nothing but The X Factor. Where has all the talent gone?

  • @RIPGarymoore I wouldn't go that far... David Letterman is on daily and there are only so many mainstream musicians his show can pluck out of thin air to perform a set. X Factor is far too appreciated in it's homeland however, rather unlike the US's reaction to our "Idol" import.

  • perfect

  • 0:38

  • I did not know Ray Allen could play the guitar too :)

  • @fezzard meh

  • John Mayer and Chris Botti are fabulous together. Reminds me somehat of Dan Fogelberg and Tim Weisberg on their album Twin Sons of Differnt Mothers. I'd love hear an album with John and Chris. Love this song...

  • this is the sick shit that JM is capable of man. fuck this guy he's just too awesome.

  • I don't care what Mayer does, it's always awesome.

  • 4:11 David Beckham

  • It would be interesting to see/hear John Mayer release a jazzy album.

  • @RedStrat well he did go to berklee??

  • @wammybarsolo21 what does that have to do with anything?

  • i love the way he looks here, with no baggy pants :)

  • the day my account was hacked :C

  • with that beautiful voice u need to make a HOLIDAY song remember a holiday there are'nt many that say HOLIDAY with luv JM

  • perfectly done

  • love the trumpet!

  • Letterman thought it was great..did you catch that?

  • @stevefrareyjr in fact, this is probably the exact opposite of "gay." This is baby makin' at it's finest. If you had a girl come over and this song was on, you are guaranteed to have your hang-low touched.

  • love this, very chill

  • Comment removed

  • @cheeseUout any you fucking kidding? he sang it perfect.

  • Is that Mark Whittfield playing in the back?

  • If I ever get to play on letterman, let alone on Hendrix birthday, this is not what I would play!!!!!!! Great but Gay at the same time! It's Hendrix's birthday!WTF

  • @stevefrareyjr That's why John Mayer is there and you are not. Stop referring to things you don't like as gay because you are misrepresenting what gay is...gay is wonderful!!! Go hate somewhere else.

  • @stevefrareyjr Suprising too, knowing that Hendrix is his biggest influence.

  • @RyanCummingsOfficial Actually, it's Stevie Ray Vaughan, but SRV was influenced most by Hendrix, so it sorta works.

  • @MrDeclanWall

And then again Hendrix was mostly inspired by Buddy Guy.

    It's all a circle.

  • @stevefrareyjr how is this "gay"?

  • The whole song was great, but John Mayer's singing should have been replaced by a real jazz singer. Both Mayer and Botti are still awesome though.

  • It amazes me about how someone can reach perfection with the instrument and vocals like John does.. i am in awe and envy.

  • please put the song title

  • @bboyxchristian In The Wee Small Hours

  • Tim Lefevbre on bass?

  • ..I like the wee, small hours of the morning...

  • A nice change to see him perform an old school song.

  • damn what a performance.

  • he looks so different in this video than what he looked like when he just started. Such a difference.

  • haha... Mayer can do it all

  • He is the most versatile singer/songwriter/guitarist of our time! True perfection, John!

  • He's amazing, but Frank owns this one, always and forever.

  • why does it look like the red guitar is being censored? :D

  • Because it say FUCK on the side!

  • that's bossa nova! love it!

  • No it isn't!! Did rather like it too tho

  • sting on the trumpet.lol!

  • except that's chris botti. :)

  • Beautiful song!

  • Beautifull.........

  • is that really denzel on drums?

  • no. thats not him. i am pretty sure if it was they would have mentioned his name :p

  • It's Billy Kilson (Kitson?) on the drums...Chris Botti's drummer...(the other guitar player is in his band too)

  • very nicely done...mr frank s. would be proud

  • did they just pan John Mayer's guitar to the left?? no they didnt!! hahaha his guitar is always center in stereo.

  • Seems like he was going through a heartbreak as well, he was "thinkin about the girl" Just looks all sad and down :( Still a great song though =D

  • its a kind of a Christmas-y,Jazz-y,

    Blues-ish song

  • has a hint of 'ill be home for christmas'.. ur rite!

  • check it out at 2:38. its ZEL on the drums! hahaha. denzel Washington can do just bout anything hahahaha!

  • horns are real good in this song.

  • its chris botti.. one of the best trumpet players of the last lets say 2 generations

  • whar's the name of song?

  • Its " In the wee small hours of the morning"

  • pause it at exactly 0:26. He looks just like jim carrey!! lol

  • just beautiful

  • jaazzzzzz

  • Like this version a lot and yes I do realize that his singing is getting better and better.. compare 'Any Given Thursday' and 'Where the light is', his singing skills are getting better.. but girls still love that breathing technic of his =D

  • Bliss!

  • holy crap -- that's.. beyond words.

  • whats song is this? its bloody incredible

  • In the Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra

  • good one

  • amazing . try listen to this and then listen to how he sang in "Any Given Thursday" .. he has clearly improved his singin' skills ALOT !!

  • so did his guitar skills

  • Thought that as soon as I heard him singing on Try!

He stopped doing his Sting impression. Sounds like he also had a vocal coach or something.

  • @TelecasterDanny definitely. i agree. it just seems like his voice matured, where as before it was more young and breathy sounding its now more strong and defined. hes great.

  • Oh my. It's an ok version - but this song IS Sinatra.

  • That solo is beautiful!

  • the next frank sinatra right there. hah.

  • Chris Botti is my favourite homosexual jazz virtuoso.

  • is he homosexual...??? :/ i don't think so

  • Comment removed

  • Mark Whitfield is a master jazz guitarist who generally plays less mainstream jazz but backs Chris Botti because the money is good (as can be seen by the fact that he is on Letterman)

  • UNREAL

  • the rhythm guitarist looks like the singer of Killswitch engage, lol

  • That's world class jazz guitarist Mark Whitfield--I guess he's rhythm guitarist on this, but he's a badddddddd ass--equal to Botti in talent.

  • haha so true!

  • he is so special!!

  • its unfortunate that not many ppl know how great a musician john mayer is, hes one of the most educated musicians there is out there, and no doubt hell be one of the greatest guitarists of the century

  • He's a fine player--not even close to the greatest of the century. But you're opinion is respected. The guy standing next to him, Mark Whitfield, is further up the list.

  • lol i cant believe this is the same guy who did Your Body is a Wonderland. He such a complete musician. it's beautiful to watch him evolve from pop star to one of the greatest true musicians alive.

  • @LuDawg104 I know your comment is from a while back but John went to Berklee College of music in Boston MA. The best of the best musicians attend that school... and that was years ago when he attended.

  • David Beckham on trumpet...

  • hahahahahah david beckham... nice joke...

    but lets add to it

that in real its a highly talented trumpet played - Chris Botti

  • He's not a jazz player but he did this song justice

  • He did too. He's getting older huh? Can a cd of standards to be too far behind? What a classy guy he seems to be, I remember his comment on winning his first Grammy, he said he hopes to grow into the award...well he's done that.

  • who's song is this? and What's the name of it?

  • read the info:

    "In The Wee Small Hours"

  • Is anybody else seeing the red guitar pixelated?

The guy with the red guitar in the back. Its just weird, his hands are fine, the fretboard is fine, everything else is fine. But the guitar just looks pixelated, is it just me?

  • I see it too...

  • yeah you're right man

  • i see it

  • made out of lego ;)

  • Ue I think its because, the guitar is so intense red that the compressor couldnt deal with that really well.

  • that is one gorgeous guitar. is it his L5?

  • yepp it is :)

  • probably, have you seen the video of his guitar collection it is a little ridiculous!

  • Very classy

  • he always plays gibson on letterman, but fender everywhere else. wierd

  • this guy can do almost anything on his guitar!! bravo!!

  • 2:39 - 2:41, MAN that sounds awesome!

  • John's a hero, but Chris Botti is awesome too. Former trumpetplayer in Sting's band! He's really awesome.

  • beautiful!!!!! fantastic awesome cover

  • Amaizing....he can even do justice to Frank Sinatra classics.

    Awesome cover!!!

  • this is the cutest thing i ever heard!!!!!

  • amazing how johns vocals have developed since he was there in '06.

  • Anyone knows the name of this song ?? thanks

  • In The Wee Small Hours

  • I love that guitar. That's the Gibson from "Slow Dancing On Mullholland Drive"

  • Comment removed

  • gibson L5

  • i would give him whatever he asked for.....ok!

  • Ummm..... oh my.

    That's all I can say.

  • whose is this song?

  • Frank Sinatra

  • thanks

  • awesum to hear the phrase ''wee'' as we use that in scotland a LOT hehe beautiful song

  • that was so smoooth

  • chills at 2.11.. awsome!

  • yeah man. cleanest sound on that L-5!

  • thats so weird i got full body chills right there too

  • Wow! I love the beautfiul smooth jazz to this music. John Mayer, I love you!!!! Chris Botti awesome!!

  • Two of my favorite artists together...what a treat.

  • Mayer's guitar, perfect. Chris Botti, awesome as always. Mayer's voice for Jazz though, ehhhhhhhhhhh....

  • Chris Botti is amazing for those who dont know GET to know, check out his track "lisa" played live, on youtube

  • Fucking Sinatra baby!

  • the only bad part of the video is johns haircut

  • don't you think it is better then that long hair du circa 2007?

  • the long hair was way better. but really it doesn't matter. he's the shit either way.

  • Just to clarify for someone far back in the comments list a 9 chord on a guitar is incredibly easy to play as its *almost* all laid out in 4ths.

  • Wow...John Mayer and Mark Whitifield together again!!! coooollll!!!!!

  • can anybody tell me what guitar John is playing? I'm a strat kinda guy myself (thanks in part to JM) so i'm not exactly a Gibson buff...

  • It's a 70's Gibson L-5

  • believe it is a gibson L-5, he is using it because this is really jazzy, and a L 5 sounds better then a strat for jazz, i have seen mayer use a 335 before as well

  • amazing

  • jazzzzyy~~

    jazz is frickin sophisticated

    but sounds sooo sexy

    bravo jm

  • its a nice cover...but hes not really playing much jazz guitar. its still mainly bluesy licks
