  • I've never seen Jaws before, but It just seems kind of lame to me. I mean it's a movie about fear of sharks, and that's just not what is scary these days, but I suppose I should see it one day since you suggest it.

and Killbill 1 was awesome. Killbill 2, even more AWESOME. I have no idea what 42317 is talking about, there was real ANIME in Kill Bill to dislike the movie, even for an otaku.

  • Add-on: I may dislike Cruise but I absolutely hate the "Kill Bill" movies. I cannot bear the rape of the Japanese language, but more than that as an Anime fan I was aghast to see that Tarantino shows Anime in exactly the way that all the die hard critics of Anime want to see and dismiss it: mindlessly violent crap from Japan. Thank you, Mr. Tarantino.

  • While I think you can dislike KB for your own reasons, I think it's unfair to take Tarantino to task because he didn't represent the breadth and variety of anime in the short segment in KB. It's not QT's responsibility to be anime's abassador - he wanted something cool in his movie & that's the style he likes - that's why he's the director. Does it fit the film? I would argue it does.

It's like criticizing C Tiger H Dragon for using wire work & making it seem all Chinese films are like that.

  • Of course QT couldn't show the whole range of Anime in such a short time slot. That's why I think he should have omitted the topic in the first place. Western representations of Anime tend to be that way in general, and I have a problem with that - kids' stuff, gore or porn: as if there was nothing inbetween. It's like saying Chinese movies were all about Kung-Fu...

There is a deal of truth in every clichée, but it's hard to convince people that the whole picture is less conveniently simple.

  • Well Tarantino's just showed a type of aniem that's all,i don't think he was saying that's what Anime is all about you know.Would you have seen the magical girl type in this movie?no,so that's why i think it was brilliant.

  • Ooh, we are differing, eventually... :-)

I absolutely dislike Cruise because he seems greasy/cheesy to me... he looks like the "most wanted son-in-law" to me... I can't warm up to him - although I did like "Legend" and "Top Gun".

"Jaws" does have one flaw: Applying already overused Disaster Movie rhetoric.

"We can't take safety measures because we would lose tourism revenue!"

That is the type of dialogue line which all these movies share, whatever pending disaster they may be about.

  • great movies :p and did you know your camera likes to follow your face? Lol

  • i know! kinda freaky huh... :P

  • No I think that's neat :p I would like that but after awhile it may get annoying haha

  • So many of these I saw 2 or 3 times when they run on HBO. I would probably never actually PURCHASE Legend on DVD but it is an entertaining flick.

I love JAWS as well, but it just doesn't have the ability to watch it more than once every couple months. I can do that with STAR WARS though, but I think it's just because I get wrapped up so much in the mythos of STAR WARS.

I don't think there is a single wasted scene in JAWS...that is the best way for me to say how I feel about it.

  • Well... at one of the video stores I worked at we could watch movies as long as they were PG or G, so the SW trilogy and Raiders and Jaws would often be playing when I was working. All great films.

  • great collection there! When you talk about Tom Cruise, you must tell about The last samurai.which is of course my favourite TC movie.i nearly cryed when i watched it for the 1st time.I think i'll try to watch legend, since i'm a big Tim curry fan and there's tom cruise in it so.About Kill bill,i think few peoples loved them because it was too chessy and they don't understand the work of tarantino.I love Tarantino's work.i think the first movie i saw from him was four rooms.Reservoir dogs rocks!

  • Last Samurai had just come out when I arrived in Japan, and all my male teachers had that Watanabe Ken goatee. :)

I do enjoy that film - Ed Zwick is great at that type of movie, most notably the fantastic civil war movie "Glory."

  • Happy that we think the same!;3

  • Legend is a great movie which again stars Tom Cruise. I haven't seen that movie since it came out on VHS back in the 80's. It's funny to me that you mentioned this film since I have been talking about wanting to watch it lately when I've been at work.

I am a huge Tom Cruise fan and to anyone else reading this comment check out Cocktails. I became a big fan of his work because of Top Gun.

Speaking of Tarantino if you haven't seen Four Rooms which stars Tim Roth it is a must see movie.

  • Cocktails is probably my favorite Tom Cruise movie.

  • Haha I was just watching another youtubers channel "the daily english show" and she was going through the vocab of some of the lines out of Jerry Maguire. I have never watched it, but only because I usually stubbornly refuse to watch movies that are immensely popular lol. "Legend" is a movie that I watched when I was really really young, I love it so much, and yeah Tim Curry rocks my socks off in his Satan role, just awesome! Excellent good vs evil movie :)

  • Love : Jerry Magquire, Jaws, Last Emperor, Last of the Mohicans.

Did not like: Kill Bill, Legend.

Not sure how I feel from day to day: Heathers, Nikita.

    And I WORSHIP John Cusack!

  • yeah - John C is the MAN! :D

  • How could you not mention Gross Pointe Blank? that's like John Cusack's best movie. Well I say that because it was the first movie I saw with him in it, so that may be giving me a bias.

  • well GPB is a GREAT flick too, it just doesn't happen to be in the binder.

  • Gotta say, I loved your Jaws ride footage. I love cheesy theme park rides the same way I love Escape from New York.

Legend generally baffled me, but the makeups were very impressive.

I think I'm gonna have to make my own version of this little series.

  • cool - i look forward to watching it.

  • I liked Legend. The few times I've mentioned it to friends, they've never heard of it. Their reaction was like "Tom Cruise did a fantasy?"

  • yeah - it's definitely one of his forgotten films. I also loved the actress in the film - Mia Sara - she was also Ferris's girlfriend in FBDO.

  • some more great films, just gone and bought heathers after your recommendation, cant wait for it too arrive

  • excellent - hope you like it!

  • Very interesting, love the commentary :]

  • cool - thanks!
