@polishdread The Buddha was never a 600 pound man, the person you are referring to is a Chinese folkloric deity named Budai ( AKA Fat Buddha in English speaking countries)
My first reaction to the "renunciation" segment ( with Buddha's foray into asceticism) , was to remember the line from the pixies' song "caribou": "...this human form, where I was born, I now repent...".
WHAT THE HELL??? Buddha was a prince of Nepal,,, not India!!! while he may have lived his life later and then died in India and this is a true fact, no arguements about that,,, it is also true that he was born in Nepal and to a royal family of Nepal... hence prince of Nepal,,, not India!!! get your facts right!!!
Buddha wasn't an Indian! He was a Nepali. He was born in Nepal, not in India! He went to India to meditate and got enlightenment in Gaya of present day India. He then started to preach people. SHAME ON YOU PBS!!! YOU DON'T KNOW THE FACT!!!!
Lumbini is in southcentral Nepal and people who are obliviuus of his birthplace should not disregard scripture, history, evidences and disrespect Buddhists.
PBS should not be distorting fact about his birthplace. Lord Buddha was born in Lumbini. Dont belive me google it, check UNESCO's website or visit the place yourself if u want to.
Btw, since when did Jennifer Lopez became a Buddhist? Here is a short list of current celebrity Buddhists.....lol wtf:
Kate Bosworth, Orlando Bloom, Richard Gere, Phil Jackson (Lakers), George Lucas (Star Wars), Jennifer Lopez, Keanu Reeves, Oliver Stone, Steven Seagal, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Tina Turner, Uma Thurman, Tom Hanks (Jew + Buddhist lol)
Not a Buddhist but I can't wait to see this episode. My English professor is a Christian and a Buddhist at the same time since there is no God in Buddhism.
What knowledge has ever been gain from reading The Sutta Nipata .
Worshiping a Fat Idol Buddha statue ,with incense and prayers , like Christianity , is pagan worship . " Siddarth guatama " aka Gautam Buddhan , died while eating pork ,he was not divine . Buddhism " Tipitaka " enlightenment philosophy, is Falsehood .
To refer to all those outside of your religion as pagan is verily a pagan practice. The initiates of the cult of Mithra Sol Invictus were the first ones to refer to everyone who was not a member of their cult as "pagans". By "pagans" they meant "those who are incompetent soldiers, not yet competent soldiers of God."
What can a 600 pound man teach others about self-control?
