  • it's a personal choice(like whisky>beer or vice versa)

and normal people don't give a shit if you're in a AT or MT car

    in traffic we're all equal

  • I used to be all about stickshift, I had M3, 5 series, all manual. Once my girlfriend got GTI with DSG I got hooked right away !! In US where often you are stuck in traffic and people drive like pussies it is an awesome alternative to a stick. I catch myself now constantly borrowing GTI for a spin... :-)

  • its not as fun. id rather be a little slower than an auto than drive one. just a preference... and its 50% of peoples preference that buy a gti. the thing im afraid of is that in a few years, there wont be anymore manuals. i love my manuals to much to give it up

  • @randrewm97

There will still be manuals because there are people like you that still like them so I would not worry too much.. Besides twin clutch tranny's are for people that care about changing gears it doesn't mean they are bad drivers or they don't know how to drive it's just a preference, both can coexist equally.

  • a manual transmission is always sturdier and more reliable than any auto trans , besides u have a better control of the power

  • @cfenus the dsg is a manual transmission... just a dual clutch design and a computer to shift for you. but im prolly with you, i hate autos

  • can you drift with a dsg?

  • @DRFTkid24 you do all the same things as you can a manual select a gear and gas it..it's awesome in my a3 2006 and i've tore it up now for 180k it's never faulted although I have heard horror stories. I've heard the DSG is bigger and space wise some tunes aren't as easily done or possible but I wouldn't know I've never tried it. My car is old and the fact that it still behaves like new is good enough for me. Even the suspension which I've never retuned feels fine to me.

  • @CrumBhosale im guessing you're referring to the one that is like a "tiptronic". My question is, say you're driving a RWD,you pull your handbrake to get your car sideways, would the rear wheels spinout, lose some traction and start sliding(while applying gas to control a drift)? or does the "cpu" constrict it and just match the rev to the speed, hence, slowing the car down during a slide?

  • @DRFTkid24 as long as traction control is off yes on audi's and lambos there is usually a button to disengage it.

  • At 4:16, I think they had the quarter mile figures mixed up.

  • kewl.

  • porsche switched back to manual shifting. right move

  • In most application, twin clutch tranny would be most beneficial... No doubt about it! But for DRIFTING, noone can argue the greatness of conventional stick. You need to control the clutch to play with sideways :-)

  • PARKING!!

  • I now know that hiya hiya hiya hoo means "Oh shit that thing is fast!"

  • lol @ "this is like an F1"

  • damn that guy shifts like a beast... He presses and releases the clutch so fast... Wonder how many gearboxes he fucked up to get to that level? Oh and the manual will be better for drifting or a road track ( auto only works in straight line...

  • @W4TCH4W The DSG is faster than the manual in any test or condition. The DSG is an electronically controlled double-clutch automated manual gearbox, not a conventional auto, it has a Manual mode (M) and paddle shifters so you can control the car, not the computers, making it ideal for racing. So, the manual will not be better in any way.

  • @bobel2007 i dont like dsg's because i, personally, feel a little more removed from the driving experience. i would much rather have a clutch pedal and be changing gears myself then let a computer worry about it. but i suppose its all down to perferrences to.

  • who wouldnt like this?!?!?

  • The car I traded in for the GTI was a 94 Chevy S-10 with a vortec 6 cyl bolted to a 5 speed manual. I understand how people think they're making some kind of organic connection with the car, but the bottom line is...

The DSG is faster, and everyone who says otherwise doesn't know the truth.

  • @linkingisnonsense DSG is .2s faster 0-60. I'd much rather have the manual. Manuals require skill to drive and are just more fun. Plus you don't have to get super expensive maintenance every 10,000 miles like the DSG.

  • @taypuc31 They're more than .2 faster in the 0-60. And honestly. I haven't seen a super expensive maintenance come up once for the DSG. Only the 40,000. That's 750 bucks, and you can do most of the maintenance yourself.

  • @linkingisnonsense 0-60 for manual is 5.7 and DSG is 5.5. Not worth the extra cost, plus you lose all the fun of driving a manual. I'd use the extra I'd pay for the DSG to get the APR chip and bump it to 280HP and then it's faster than the DSG.

  • @taypuc31 Yeah, it would be faster than the DSG in a straight line then, but in terms of all-around performance, the DSG is by far and away faster, with better straight line accel stock, and lateral accel stock. You really get what you pay for. I'd use my employee discount to bump it down to 22 grand and then chip it. Did it. And when you chip both, you start to see the weak part in the system is the spongey bits working the gear lever.

  • @linkingisnonsense You're talking about drivers who don't drive the DSG, who don't use launch control, and don't believe it exists on a 26,000 dollar sports car. When the DSG was released, VW claimed the 6 speed was faster. Now it's suddenly not. I guarantee you I could cross the line a full second faster in my DSG set to stock settings, than any manual 2.0t stock 6MT GTI.

  • @GarrettKeetley sorry .. it's not a dsg ..

it might be a double clutch gearbox but it's not DSG

  • @ropoly It's a DSG because bugatti is part of VW and it's using the same manufacturer. I hope you don't think since they are both called DSG that it's the exact same transmission in both cars.

  • @viasevenvai

The 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) system developed for the 406km/h, 987bhp Bugatti Veyron sportscar will be shown for the first time by Ricardo at the 4th International CTI-Symposium held in Berlin this week.....

    SO IT'S NOT DSG

  • @SRBENAVRBE92 You just wait and see..

  • This is a pretty cool video.

My take on manual or DSG. I got the DSG becuase I have a long commute and hit a lot of traffic and when i am driving on the weekend I put it in sport mode or shift myself. I first test drove the manual and that what made me buy the car. But it's a matter of practicality in my case and that's why I also believe that the DSG is the futur.

  • Comment removed

  • automatic Gay .i hate that

  • DSG sucks. In many cases the clutch fails after only a couple 1000 miles..

  • @kimgulle have any proof of this?

  • @blahblah2018 I work at a volkswagen workshop and i service a LOT of dsg equipped cars. And i can easily guarantee that at least 30-40% of those that i do service on has a clutch which do not operate as it should. After working with these cars for some time i've come to the conclusion that i will never in my whole life get a car with a dsg gearbox.

  • DSG is faster, more efficient, more consistent, and more comfortable. It makes manuals obsolete. We'll have 9-speed DSG soon, and prominent makers such as Lamborgini are already abandoning manuals. If I'm paying $54,000 for an Audi, I'm not paying for ancient tech and to shift the car myself. Transmissions don't get you laid -- a nice car does. If you genuinely find stick fun, that's fine. The rest of you, lose the masochism. Some people don't need to swoosh around a stick to feel like a man.

  • @mxulive just be sure to obey the school zone speed limit when you're cruising for chicks.

  • Comment removed

  • @mxulive Yeah, its a good idea to train using your left foot for braking, and like, who wants to be able to rock a car out of the snow, we can all just call in to work. I also agree becuase they are much easier to work on in your driveway, and besides that they are way cheaper to fix, and only half as many moving parts so what could break down on that gearbox anyway? The best part about it is when you mod your car, add horse, and flash the ecu, it will shift perfectly every time, the first time!

  • @mxulive so, if the conventional manual transmission offers more visceral driving excitement, who cares if a DSG shaves off milliseconds from your 0-60 times? You know what really won't get you laid? Talking numbers. I guess I would expect this kind of rationale from someone who needs to convince themselves that the $54k they just dropped on a car was well spent.

  • @mxulive

thats just what non-enthusiast drivers say

if you want to get laid, buy a prostitute

  • @mxulive True... New technology is developed everyday and if it's good it's meant to be used... I myself prefer the feel of a manual stick, but I have nothing against automatic transmissions...

  • @mxulive If you need nice cars to get you laid you've got bigger problems bro.

  • @kerod9210

    HAHAHAHA!!!!!

  • @kerod9210 face problem ioi

  • @mxulive this is bullshit, and fuck getting laid, im not a poser. Im not handicapped either, i can shift my self. It is more fun to do also.

  • @mxulive

I feel bored when driving automatic transmission.

  • @mxulive good point, but this is not a 54,000 dollar audi, its just a gti, so i think the majority of its users would rather shifting the car themselves. This set up is good for straights, but how will it do on a track compared to a human shifting gears???

  • @mxulive Automatic cars are for people who don't really give a shit about driving, and maybe old people

I drive Manuel because i like to have more control over my car

  • @EddieLolz3r

and manual is more fun :)

  • @mxulive a nice car doesnt get you laid, having some balls and being a man gets you laid. If you need a car to help you get laid, the only thing you're getting are STDs. People who say they dont like stick shift just means you dont know how to drive.

  • @7m28

And arguing about what transmission you drive is just stupid because I like auto tranny's and I do like driving and I do know how to drive on the track really well. it's just a matter of preference, and as for having balls tell someone who cares bra.

  • @mxulive The DSG is the future and you are absolutely correct with your statement, however the manual is far more reliable. I own a 2010 GTI DSG and my mechatronics unit (the computer that controls the dual clutches) failed with the car only having 18000 miles...

  • @mxulive why don´t you go eat a cock¿ CUNT

  • @mxulive Feeling like a man? Only in lazy America. Most men and woman in Europe drive manuals. Only the elderly drive autos.

  • @mxulive When you drive manual you have more control over the car. When you buy a fast/expensive car you don't want to feel like it controls you, you want to feel like you control it. A lot more exciting I think

  • @mxulive You're retarded and probably hate driving.

  • lol that mans driving with oven gloves..LLLOOOOOOLLL

  • 4:10 sayonnara,sayonnara....I love so much japanese people. People very nice and respectful !

  • Comment removed

  • @ronmann606 Did you not read that they were talking about launch control? It's a system built into the car, so of course it's made for that. Otherwise it wouldn't have launch control. It is better, though, not to use it too often :-P

  • @dunti21 oh ya you're right still hard on it but i guess it is meant to do that

  • Aaaaand the good old fashioned NA DC5 shows everyone up the at the end. I love it!

  • The DSG can upshift quickly, but probably no one alive today has a more wicked heel-toe downshift than Mr. Tsuchiya. That guy's got car control down to an art.

  • I bet that dsg launch looks pretty cool off the traffic lights

  • Damn computers will win everytime, but I still like doing it myself.

  • kori karo toshi tora. nakazawi HIROSHIMA

  • wtf? are this gloves...?

  • Hmm im getting GTi and idk DSG or manual? i drive manual at the moment but idk :/

  • @BhFanatik17 get the DSG, you can always use the paddles. plus, you can use launch control on the DSG.

  • wabaki!

  • @IsoIdeMaduschen gaijin

  • 'launch control engaged'....screeeeeech! Love it.

  • So how does DSG work? I'm a bit confused, especially when it mentions two clutches. Since from what I saw, the DSG drove like an automatic almost? Or am I just stupid -.-

  • @AngelicRemorse

The car has two clutches that are operated by electric actuators. One clutch for the gears 1,3,5 and one for 2,4,6 so if you change the gear the next gear is already engaged, one clutch opens and the other one closes which results in ultra fast shift times and the pulling force is not interrupted by the shifts.

  • I love these japanese guys, ok they´re eating a lot of strange animals to get a boner but they´re very funny

  • dsg is for gentlemen who have better things to do with there time than change gears

think about what more one can do with one hand free while driving

  • DSG is just 4 people who cannot drive or dont have balls!!

  • DSG ,IS FOR FAT YANKS THAT CANT CHANGE GEAR ,:)

  • That's why most manufacturers that offer them are European and Japanese not from the U.S. All our sports cars are still made for those who like to shift.

  • tsuchiya is a funny guy, haha.. but after all, type R still the fastest between all competitors around there..

  • I drive a dsg mkv and I love it I do also understand people who love manual that's fine my reason why I pick dsg over manual because traffic shifting from 1 to 2 and back 1 just got little old for me but don't get me wrong I still love manual

  • manual transmission is still so much more fun

  • gg guys...

  • vw are not for japaneese!

  • 0:37 "launch control" lol!!!

  • the dsg is great but boring. i bought the manual gti mkv and i dont regret it

  • かっちょええええーーーー

    いいねぇ DSG な S-tronic さぁぁぁぁwwwwwwww

    wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • I still want a manual.

  • DSG The BEST!

  • I really appreciate the technology that goes into these DSG setups, but nothing makes you feel more connected to the car than a good old manual.

  • @TruWarriorRon You can still be a car enthusiast and drive an automatic, just because you have a sportscar in manuel transimission doesn't mean it's going to make everyone happy, I actually don't like the feel of manuel it ruins the feel of driving for me but DSG is just right. I can focus more on my steering and keep both of my hands planted onto the steering wheel most of the time.

  • even when im 0.5 sec faster with dsg i would always buy a manual...

  • I think is depend your style of driving though feel the same way as many people here about losing the true feeling of manual trannys. It should be optional since there is people out there that value performance over everything else.

  • idk anyone noticed, but DK shifts like lightning.

  • The Japanese drivers is a GT2 class winner at Le Mans,1995.

  • i agree with everything they say and show.. and i would still go and buy a manual....

  • Keiichi Tsuchiya!

  • Godzilla!!!

  • Japanese drivers are bizarros the worst in the world

  • BUT why "Drift" king do drag race test ?

  • japanese look always so funny :D dont know

  • hai hai

  • chip the gti and it will go into high 13's

  • I love manual, but in the city i rather have dsg

  • Awesome, this transmission is nice, I can't wait for it to become mainstream in the future.

  • 3 letters DSG!

  • the latest DSG7 with DRY clutch is even more advanced and Better! i have it in my new Ibiza cupra 2010. rocks!

  • just power shift the god damn manual i want to see it have a chance

  • German and Japanese languages both sound angry...Japanese less so.

  • The DSG also senses when you need to use compression braking...I tap my brakes and Mark 6 downshifts to slow car...fantastic.

    And in traffic...NO PROBLEMO...MANUAL LAME-O !

  • I have driven manuals my whole life , but now my Mark 6 has DSG will never go back !

  • lol even the drift king is still human lol love this video

  • omfg diese japsen .. wie die reden :-D

  • They're doing this with a bone stock GTI with the Volkswagen German mechanical DSG technology. The results are pretty intimidating when the DSG begins to bash more powerful cars. However, the usual drawbacks of the automatic are there... if the automatic breaks expect expensive repairs.

  • my cousin has an 09 gti stock....0-60 5.9 when he launched it and its 6 speed manual...idk about dsg..

  • How do you ask Keiichi Tsuchiya to test drive a GTI ?

  • LAUNCH CONTROOOOOLLLLLLL.....SUGOIIIIIIIIIIII :))))))))))))

  • because in asia, golf gti's are the ultimate speed test O-o

  • @Danrakich shut up..they are the best drivers in the world

  • @scuo90 who said they can't drive?? you being racist BOOII ?!

  • @Danrakich no i don't! i said he is one of the best driver in the world!!!

  • why the drift king look like fishmen, lol, but he looks nice guy

  • 00:43 Look how fast that guy's foot work is and even then the manual is slow.

  • DSG Vs Maunal

DSG: Damn my car wont start

Manual: Same here mind giving me a push ill dump the clutch ... Thx Cya!

  • @acasey2001 Give my car a push? What is it, a datsun 180 or something?

  • nice!!!!!

  • DSG is faster... even Ferrari has abandoned manual gearbox in favor of DSG gearbox... not saying it's more rewarding though... and the reason it is faster than a manual is because it has two clutches, one for 1-3-5 gear and another for 2-4-6, so when you're in first, the second gear is already engaged, so you lose less time in neutral between shifts, this is where you will win time over a manual...

  • @Yanp87 DSG transmission is cool, faster, fun and economic.

VW has also an one-gear automatized transmission, from Magneti Marelli, called ASG, the same used on Dualogic Transmission (Fiat), but there's no fun on it, completely unconfortable.

  • @Yanp87 Yeah but to be honest id rather just be slower then have the robot shift for me.

  • @tusagnamaster

indeed, manual shifting all the way.

  • @Yanp87 it shouldn't be about sacrificing the car's soul to gain an extra half a second on a race track somewhere.

  • @Yanp87 And people hate when you tell them you bought a DSG...

  • @Yanp87 but now the new lamborghini aventador has a single cluth geatobx which is faster than any dual clutch ;) ahhhh technology

  • @beatbox4lyf

    Different engine dude.

  • @beatbox4lyf oo yah go buy a lamborghini to take your child from school LMAO, lol dude u compare a Golf winth a lambo ! rofl

  • @Yanp87 hmmm interesting stuff man. but screw DSG i would still go for a stick shift. more fun :D

  • @sicsico DSG is essentially an automatic. If you don't have complete control over which gear to select I call that an auto. DSG will still autoshift. They are on a completely flat track where you wouldnt see the dsg force the car into a gear that isnt preferable. On motorsport cars that use any type of paddle shifting like rally and f1 there is not a forced gearchange (sequential is similar shift not dsg). You can chip it not to do this though but I'm thinking it isn't worth it

  • It's an auto if you use the definition you mentioned. However, it's a manual gearbox with electronic solenoids to move the shift forks and two clutches to do the clutch work. An actual automatic transmision is a completely different design so by design, it's a manaul transmision, it just shifts for you.

  • @bcapecci its just the programing you can get it reprogramed so there is no "forced gear change" as you said, but to call the DSG an automatic would be to prove your automotive ignorance, it is in every way better than a manual excapt that you dont have the same feeling of the shift, other than that it is entirely better

  • @mikethebeast1012 and i love that fact that i need to buy 2 clutches now!

  • @acasey2001 i have never heard of anyone needing the clutches changed yet (im sure its happened but its not common at all) you can even far exceed the factory torque rating on the DSG and still not have any issues

  • @mikethebeast1012 its only been what 4 years? I'm talking down the line when a clutch would need to be replaced. But idk bro something about the option to put my car in D just doesn't sit well with me.

"Real men drive with two feet"

  • @acasey2001 well ALL clutches will need replaced eventually the differences is the DSG ones are tiny compared to a regular one since the shift points are so carefully controlled, also i would disagree with real men drive with 2 feet since F1 also uses a sequential gearbox

  • omfg...and what about braking? automatic will lose

  • @TranceMatzl15 DSG is not Automatic, paddle shifters with real DSG does not behave like an auto and would shift down with paddles just as fast

  • the problem is the delay of one second. i´m driving a golf R32 with h-shifter but i also tried the DSG version, when you´re shifting with paddles the car shifts after a delay of 1 sec...that´s really crappy and not sporty!the same with downshifting, with h-shifter i push the clutch and can shift down 2-3 gears , with dsg i have to wait 1 sec till the car shifts down.

  • @TranceMatzl15

Sounds like you were driving the R32 with just the automatic gearbox with the "manual shift" option.

  • no not really dude. i´m driving the Golf IV R32 witha manual h-shifter , if you don´t know what that is, search on google.

  • @TranceMatzl15 there must have been something wrong with the one you tested because i tested and now own a DSG, it upshifts faster than a person could even begin the process to shift, the downshifts are not as quick but still faster than i could ever achieve myself, you should test another when you buy your next car

  • piasal al dsg???allora basal!!!

  • bvncxjhl

  • Nope. The 6 speed manual is standard. The DSG is a $1200 option, but in my opinion, worth every penny.

  • @rceckspurt13 i agree i love my DSG

  • HAHAHAHA

Japan dudes in Golf...Never seen that before! :D

  • @846524162 They are loving it too!!

  • @846524162 I agree to you

  • @846524162 watch tokyo drift.

  • @846524162 that japan dude is the real DK!! stuntman in tokyo drift and who invented drifting! Keiichi Tsuchiya

  • @BunkerKlunker

That guy must be damn old, because they drift in a rally championship allot since ages..

  • @846524162 asia is vw's second market in the world and north america beeing third

  • @riderunion Ok... but since I never been to asia, I never seen an asian in golf :)

  • @riderunion honesly i'm an 18 year old who worked his ass off for an mkiv gti vr6, and got this information on wikipedia, you judge true or not

  • @846524162

    Racist! lololol

  • @846524162 haha its pretty unusual. ive only seen it like once before..
