My most sympathized thoughts for Joost van der Westhuizen. Indded a rush of sdness in my vains. When I start to play rugby in Italy, in a little town (Arezzo) I was appointed as a scrum half and my friend, senior scrum half mentor, gave me tons of tapes to watch and learn form the masters.He used to say "Watch all the Springboks game I gave you, in particularly Van der Westhuizen, his hands, the way he plays, he is the best scrum half ever" indeed a force of inspiration for my rugby life.Grazie

He is a scrum-half. Usually the guy that does all the passing from set-pieces and who puts the ball into the scrum and passes it out. Usually they're the best with their hands and actually are meant to be the smallest/weakest guys on the pitch... Obviously Joost is an exception ;)

The best scrum half rugby has seen, he was the only man to stop Jonah Lomu in the rugby world cup final in 1995 .... i remember thinking oh shit they gave the ball to Lomu, someone please take him down, and it was Joost. Dont forget his torpedo pass to Joel Stransky for the decisive drop kick that won them the tornament!!! What a Legend!!!!

It's hard to compare Joost and Du Preez if you think about it. As for tries and running, Joost definitely wins. But, Du Preez has that amazing boot and the sense of the game...not to mention how many times he has prevented tries on his own goal line. And, Du Preez has scored some very good individual tries too. Joost probably overall more dangerous. Du Preez would be my man in tight, tough situations.

Joost is the best, Du Preez is good too, but NZ and Aus don't have the talents like Gregan and Marshall like before that is why Du Preez looks so good. A player can only play as well as his opponent allows him. To play against Marshall and come out top is an achievement.

I forgot how active a player he was. He did everything for the Boks and was the spark they relied on. Fourie Du Preez shows that ability at times too, but he still isn't in the same league.

I agree with Blitz Bok, FDP runs games from number 9. He is why we won the 2nd test against the Lions. He had a hand in two tries. He plays 9-10 for the Boks, as far as I am concerned. Joost however is a legend but he is an individual and he is so tough in the contact area. His resistant running is awesome. He see's the try line, no one can stop him.
