  • Agree..keep up the good work.. :)

  • Great video, Cody. It's hard but not impossible to interest other people in languages.

  • salaam bro. love your channel. keep it up!

  • @ukentrepreneur Wa-'Alaykum As-Salaam. thanks for the support!!

  • In the past I have tried to get other people interested in this language thing. Usually they have told me that I'm just one of those people with a facility for language, or that I have "the Mario Pei syndrome". So they excuse themselves from getting interested by assigning me to a another category of the human species, a rara avis beyond their capacity for emulation. This of course is not true; I have no special abilities. THe other approach is to say "oh, its so hard.."

  • @alkantre I do not believe you have to be anybody special to learn another language. we all learned or mother-language without conscious effort.

  • @Codylangaugesblog I agree with you. But here at least, one is up against a massive collective mentality that says it's extremely difficult to learn a language.

  • Great video !!! Hope to see more people who want to avoid english ! =) Just joking !

  • in america it's impossible. Most people don't care about their language classes. They don't feel they need to in a country where the language that they speak overall is English and they don't actually travel anywhere they stay in hotels in major cities with tour groups that are in English. They never interact with the locals. (Btw Rosetta Stone is crap... i torrented it to test it out... it was TERRIBLE). Speak all of the major languages in the world, it definitely opens a door! ...

  • @coolsteven2 I speak English, Spanish, Mandarin. I speak some Portuguese and basic french because of my relatives. I def. find it fun. I rather learn Chinese or any language besides do my schoolwork :/ it's so much more interesting. Global language is stupid. Every language has it's own historical and cultural background. Why would you destroy something like that. I wonder how many languages dont't have a word for goodbye like Chinese.

  • What you say towards the end is interesting. I am not at war with English. There is after all great poetry in the language. That said, let me say that I am totally opposed to the predominance of English in the world. Sooner or later, this reduces other cultures to second or even third-class citizenship. And in the long term, it will lead to language extinction--look at what happened to the Celtic languages in Britain itself! We need to start reading the writing on the wall!

  • @alkantre I have nothing against English, I think it is a wonderful language, but rather I am against the dominance of one language. Domination only causes destruction.

  • @Codylangaugesblog Yeah, this is basically what I want to say. When I speak of "the writing on the wall", I am referring to such destruction.

  • Great video. Strange that in my world, only Jews and quasi-Jews are interested in engaging actively in language learning, to the point where I have started to think that language learning is essentially a Jewish thing. (I am not Jewish, but the guys I hang out with are, for the same reason).

However, almost everything you say here is true! One thing though, Latin is hard. No one has ever tried to deny this! But learning Latin is extremely rewarding!!

  • i thought you were going to have your head shaved, once you do you will be glad. its cool, not that cool but less hot.learning languages are fun.

  • Great vid

  • Even among my 'educated' friends, I get the same responses - 'I'm too old', 'I've never been any good at languages' etc etc. And when they find out that I'm learning a particular language, the first question is always 'why?' (meaning 'what use will it be to you?) I find these attitudes very depressing and if this is representative, then is it any wonder that the British have such a poor reputation for learning languages?

  • Great video! I loved your advice. I am trying to learn Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and German.
