  • Great video. I'm sorry if this is a stupid/idiotic question, but nobody in my squadron seems to want to answer me and I'm a little confused. Here it is:

Do have to go to Hawk to be a ranger? I'm medically unable to go, but I've been working on my ranger SQTRs with my first sergeant. I'm just so confused, can anyone explain/clarify?

Great video, I really like it. : )

  • i remember when i was in cap as a cadet. some of the best years of my life.

    Echo 07!

  • Edit your spelling ;) please, craped? (crapped) paints? (pants)

  • can't call it my best week ever, the conditions were tougher beyond anything I expected. can't call it my worst week ever cause i had some good times and accomplishments. all i can say it is your most triumphant week. the things you accomplish that you thought were impossible before give you that rush of adrenaline and pride. words couldn't describe how i felt when i reported in to receive my ranger card and my hawk patch. all i can say is go, you will never regret it a day in your life. HOOAH!

  • Excellent Vid. Still going strong. 180 comments..... Not bad at all.... Great choice of a song also....

    Steve Castellano

  • Basic course graduate from 2002 here. To those of you wondering whether to do encampment first, just do encampment. Hawk isn't to be taken lightly. You need to be in good physical and excellent mental condition to make it at Hawk, let alone to have any fun. If you're new to CAP, just get your encampment out of the way, work on your physical conditioning, do some extended backpacking on your own time, and do Hawk when you're good and ready.

  • I went in 2009 Bravo Squadron

  • Great vid! Look for me at Graduation of 2011! The only problem is that Encampment and Hawk Mountain are pretty much at the same time.

C/MSgt, Penman, North Dakota Wing, CAP

  • 3:48 all he needs is a bag of skittles a helmit and an M-16 rifle and it will be just like a picture i saw not to long ago =)

  • can any one help me to know the CAP definition of infinity pleaze help

  • @MultiDargon

If I recall correctly it is: All colors, and no colors. Everything, and nothing.

  • is it better to go to Hawk Mountain before your first encampment or just wait until next year?

    thanks

  • @Trogiss hawk mountain is a hell of a lot tougher than an encampment...go 2 encampment 1st

  • nice!!!

  • 3:49 the watchband hes wearing, I had one of those for basic in the middle of the summer. When I went to AIT like 10 weeks later something smelt really bad and when i was checking my uniform it was the watch band. The bottom of it was like brown and smelt like crap.

  • Was in CAP for 4 years made it to Major. rank attended and Staffed HM best Exp i ever had wouldn't chance it for the world, Now in Collage cant w8 to go back to FL Wing

  • Can anyone answer me this question though? What's a normal day at a meeting like?

  • You'll do some classes or PT depending on what your schedule is and then discuss upcoming events. You may do leadership and aerospace or emergency services and one of the previous with some drill. You usually have activities to go with the class, like for ES, maybe line searches, or aero you may make gliders or something like that. Fourth week you do PT and take a written test. PM me if you still have questions.

  • These pics are from when I went in '06.

  • Guys, I'm in the civil air patrol. Join it, but never go to hawk mountain. It is a waste of your life filled with prepubesent wannabees trying to be tough. Don't get me wrong though, Civil Air Patrol is really cool.

  • @masterCJ13

I never went to hawk, but from encampment I can tell that its just a bunch of kids going on power trips (I was older than most of my staff)

  • u fucking wrong...hawk is amazing

  • I cannot wait to go in 2010. Any advice for a first timer

  • yah, make sure you bring a lot of extra clothing, a good hiking pack (I would recommend a civilian type, stay far away from an alicepack), a variety of different types of MRE's and cans, an extra set of boots, and lots of para-cord. Also make sure your stuff is water proofed. If u have any other questions let me know I will hook you up.

  • Why no Allies? ( It's our squadrons name for them.)

  • @axcfds because they suck... nuff said

  • i loved hawk 09.

i was Alpha squadron(Alpha rules) and one thing we learned is that the wall is hell to climb, we are one happy family, you dont get hugs from your family cuz on day 9, you smell like something died, and it will give you more training than anything in the world. next year, im going tango. yay for rope training. i loved the mountain, i miss it, and i cant wait to go back next year. Hooah HMRS 2009 was amazing.

  • reneej72 has his head on right.

  • GO ...don't listen to the "Naysayers"

they know nothing about it or are too afraid to go. It'll be the best thing you ever did

  • it isn't. im ranger staff and im telling u this is the best SAR training ANYWHERE. my advice to all u ranger hopefuls: even if staff hints that something needs to be done, do it immediately. my advice to all u naysayers: shut up and go to hawk before u post bad comments about it.

p.s. this is my sister's account name. i dont have one.

  • Been through it years ago. absolutely correct ive applied what i learned at Hawk in at least 20 REDCAP situations

  • i heard this was a piece of shit school. all they do is yell and you dont learn too much and its really all pt

  • gee i guess you would need to go there to see for your self.

  • It teaches you a lot. Without hawk I wouldn't have gotten accepted into the air force academy.

  • yo dude I love civil air patrol

  • Lol.... i dont think ill go

    C/MSgt Tedder

    Lakeshore

  • That Good i am proud of you Rangers Want to be jajaja

    C/Sra Humphrey

  • C/2d Lt. Thompson

  • I hear its basically all PT with a bunch of Twelve Year old Staff and Tech Sgt's yelling at you. My 1st Sgt told me its abscialyl a second Encampment. Correct me if im wrong =/

  • yes and no. ever here the name MAJ stocker. or stern. most of the command adults are army or other. yes there are some kids 16 that are staff but mostly 17. if you think your to good for it and your above the 16 who put in way more time than you. go a head and be that way just never show your face at hawk EVER

  • I just wanted to know.

  • yea i was gunu apliy but... my membership expired and my mom lost her job so....i cant renew......

  • i still cant believe i got accepted into Hawk Mountain Ranger School. lol.

  • this is super kickass, im going nex year cuz my squadren commander told me that the ranger school in PR is a piece of crap compared to this. so far i think (from what i saw in the vid) everything is easy except 1:58 (for me cuz im a fatty and cant do that) and land navigation but i will see for myself when the time comes. if anyone sees me their say "hi"

    C/SSGT Galarza, C.A.P

  • Yes pretty sweet im going this summer

  • thats totally badass, im goin next year

    C/SSgt Stein, CAP

  • it is deff. worth it all.

  • thank you for your thoughts next time i care i will ask for your input. whats your number so i can call and ask?.

  • my squadren commander is one of the instructors in tango at hawk. he's told me what it's going to be like but i really wan to get into the medic coarse over there. (how's that like) also what is the name of this song i really like it.

  • I dont even remember what years I went to summer school, I think it was 99-2000, I believe I was in Delta with c/Cpt Ian Hanna for my basic course, then I went to Staff the next year and did my yellow scarf year with C/Cpt Shawn Cressman.

Long time, I miss those misty mornings with the parade field being all muddy, doing PT untill I couldnt move, then "oh yay, lets go run the OC!", then go run a few miles to dry off. Tough school, almost as tough as Army Basic.

    C/Cpt Friedline.

  • what song is this

  • this is like the ranger school of CAP.

  • Major Bennett and Captain Roop

    Kevin Bennett and Roop

  • nice im bored, and he the guy who posted a comments under me told me about this! [=

  • yo slypher37 who are you and are you in our squadron

    C/AB Fitzpatrick-Ruth

  • i think he went to hawk mtn.

  • who? lol

  • are you in our squadron? lol random question cause you seem like you know them. lol

  • who is this? are you in our squadron?this is cadet /AB/ Fitzpatrick-Ruth

  • yo cdt430583. did Hurst or heale go to hawk mountain?

    C/AB fitzpatrick

  • i dont think so. i think it was just bennett and roop that time maybe later they did but im not suer

  • Comment removed

  • yo cdt430583! im in Air Victory too! and hey Bennett and Roop are in the video! lol

  • whats the name of this song? its really good!

  • at 1:10 the person the camera was focused on is and and the man to the right are both in my squadron and the one on the right in the Cadet Commander.

  • thanks man! in the meantime till summer, any suggestions for breaking the fear short of climbing trees (i cant climb tress worth jack) hell i cant even step on the last step of an average sized latter before getting scared, i guess that will be my first goal :)

  • lol well you could start by going up the stairs lol jk. there is a place called sky round top in PA if you live close. it has a hole flying leeps OC. its a place i went to, to start braking my fear. any rock climbing place is also good. and if you sing up to help with your local fire dep. they may be abol to help you out plus even teach you stuff. hey why don't you send me a youtube email and i can conect with you that way ok man maby IM or phone.

  • hey im going this year for the first time, i have a extreme fear of heights, so would they force me to still climb the building and rocks, or could i be excused? other then that i feel very confident about this and how fun and adventorous its going to be

    snr. airman shanley

  • its great to here that your going to hawk this year. about the heights. i an right beside you i hate them. but yes i still had to repel weather i liked it or not. ever since i have not had many probs with heights. but trust me its very safe. plus don't forget one day you may be on a mission where you will need to use this skill its better to get over your fear now that later right. if you have any other Qs just let me know.

  • I too had a slight fear of heights when I turned into a ranger, But its all good, if you reppel on the mountain, its not that bad, you get very comfortable on ropes before going to heights, it can be scary, but after you start down, it gets easier, and it gets fun. Just gotta find that personal courage Cadet. Life is an adventure, Hawk is the most fun you could ever have.

  • Lol w00t w00t Alpha 08

  • ALPHA STAFF 08 YEAH

  • ya i was the medic for alpha 08

  • haha those were the days

  • ya my last lol. who is this any way.

  • its Humphrey man

  • i'm Humphrey

  • with that im webb ha we worked to gather in A

  • haha yea i am thinking about going but is there an age cutoff? Oh, and wat is your rank in CAP?

  • no if you are old enuf to join cap you are old enuf to go to hawk but you must have your frist rank Airmen. when i was in cap my rank was c/sgt.

  • ok well i am a C/TSgt

  • Hazing is against the Cadet Protection Laws of Civil Air Patrol. Right??

  • right you are, but some times that is not enuf.

i cant even say that it is all that bad with the hole hazing deal, but it dose happen. i had a SRGT that took us out in Mike SQ and had thrented us but just as that hapend a Maj. walked in and well he got chewed out. i honistly would not worry about it and like i said i have been there 2 times and im still alive.

  • really cool video, i hope to be going to hawk next summer and whats the name of this song?

  • hey im applying for hawk. first of all

    1) is it a really stringent selection process like other NCSA's such as flight school, or is there a large acceptence quota

    2) How difficult is it. I mean I've heard from other cadets it's really tough but is it a lot of hazing or just pressure for performance?

  • really its more pressure than anything else. but keep in mind you will always here this "there is no HAZING on hawk MT." Dont trust it I've been a cedet and a staff cedet. stuff hapens. but over all its a good place to grow and learn in life.

    X-cedet Webb

  • What year is this? I was there 07 and 08.

  • How deep is that water?

  • Comment removed

  • No quite.

They were trained by USAF Pararescuemen from Westover AFB.

The PJs called the first cadets "Rangers"

Nothing at all to do with the USA Rangers.

  • even CAWG encampment is probably the same on the intensity scale.

  • why is the PJ motto at the end????

And PJOC is 100% more intense.

  • meh...PJOC is way better and Hawk is super over-rated, but that's just my $0.02 on the subject

  • ew. Sooo many uniform infractions.

  • Your in the field, cut them some slack...
